We visited Auschwitz, makes your blood run cold, standing in in the crematorium where 1.5million people died The Nazi even harvested humain hair to make army uniforms and carpets. So sick . Then we travel north. Arrived Warsaw Tuesday morning, 34C. 2160km from home, Had to sit at a nice cafe drink mint lemonade. 70 year WW2 celebration are here too this weekend, so hotels busy. But we found space in quaint Castle Inn Hotel in old town square. Poland is nice, felt quite rich & definitly sucessful, lots of good roads, no problems with police. Warsaw Architecture is superb both old and new, city is bustling. Blog running bit behind we're in Minsk now, seams to be lots to do.... read more

Ah, Allan did a good job with the GPR, for new landed at the right place. A very busy cobblestoned street. But where is the parking? Liz, inside checking. Yes the car has to go into one of those famous cellars. We had a guide who showed us the opening. The car squeezed through. Very narrow had to backup to park. Not a bad room. About a half hour walk to the old city. Which we did that day. We had a meal in Grandma's kitchen than back to the Hotel. The old city was virtually destroyed un the 2nd world war. But the reconstruction was amazing. The people were stubborn to put it back in the original style and form. It is now the only reconstructed site in the world. You do think that tourists ... read more

Należy jednak uważać na dys... read more

Tu vystupilo cca 3/4 busu. Vacsina sla na nizkonakladove lestisko odkial operuje hlavne wizz air a ryanair . Do busu nastupili fajnove rusky (len dost mlade). Jednemu polakovy sa moc nelubila ich ruska rec, tak po nich spatno zazeral. Dalsia zastavka bola v meste Częstochowa. Vystupil jeden clovek a nastupilo asi desat. Od katowic som sedel sam, konecne kopa placu. Cestou zacalo prsat, nastastie pred varsavou sa to zastavilo a bolo len polojasno. Poliaci maju fakt divne dialnice, ... read more

Fun fact: halo actually means goodbye and szia (pronounced see ya) means hello in Hungarian. Anyways, just a quick update... we arrived in the 11 degree, white ground, Christmas decorated beautiful country called Poland on Thursday afternoon. We are staying in Old Town Warsaw, which is probably the cutest place I've ever seen. Photos will be coming soon. I'm looking into it, but I'm pretty sure this is where Santa actually lives the rest of the year because it's February 1st and there is absolutely no attempt to take down any of the many Christmas decorations set up throughout the city. We will update in the next couple of days. We miss you all and hope everyone is doing great! -Jess of Jeryl This message was approved by Daryl... read more

We arrived in Warsaw on the express train just after 11pm. Good for me, it seems the hotel I picked was the closest possible from the station....the kids were in bed just before midnight. Next morning, while Tiffany and Leslie were still sleeping, I went to book and pay our train from Warsaw to Minsk for the same evening. Good news, double one, they still had berths, and cabins were all 3 berths...that was, with the next train, the only one I couldn't book at a decent price on the internet. Our night train was to leave from the same station at 9pm. This gave us a full day to explore Warsaw. How do you deal with a proper visit to Warsaw...in a single day. You don't, it's like life, you simply make choices. Bear in ... read more

One fact which sprang to mind when musing over the Polish capital is that Warsaw is in fact an anagram of 'saw war', and in terms of the city's historical events, this rings true several times over. Indeed, it would be a fair assessment to make that Warsaw is a place of a somewhat synthetic fabric coated in a refreshingly traditional allure, as many prominent Varsovian landmarks did not escape a thorough drubbing during wartime, the result of which forced Warsaw not so much to pick up the pieces, but to make whatever they could out of the remaining rubble. Capitalism has been sufficiently kind enough over the years for Warsaw to have been adequately reconstructed, thankfully in a style which reflects the way the city was perhaps originally intended to be, and the city's chief ... read more

The day started with an hour walk to the Warsaw Uprising Museum. It didn't seem that far on the map but our map reading skills are obviously not getting any better! In our defence there is much construction happening and roads are closed off here there and everywhere which, when you are trying to find your way around a foreign city, can throw you for a loop! The hotel reception had assured us there would not be a line to get into the museum. Unfortunately this was not the case and we had to wait an hour to get in. Well worth the wait. The museum is a dedicated record of Warsaw's doomed rebellion against the Nazis in 1944. Yet again we were staggered by what the Polish people endured during World War II. The photographs ... read more

We caught the train from Krakow to Warsaw today. Another regional train and thankfully the last while we are here in Europe. It's more or less a local train so not nearly as luxurious as the trains that take you from country to country. We asked the hotel to confirm which train station we had to go to to catch our train as there are two stations in Krakow. Thank goodness our taxi driver knew where to go because if we had taken the hotel's advice we would have ended up at the wrong train station. The taxi driver even knew which platform we had to be on. Bless him because when we arrived at the station everything was in Polish and no rail attendant or information counter in sight! We only located our train because there ... read more
