Arrived in the Netherlands and as always was amazed how user-friendly an airport Schiphol is. Short lines at immigration and customs and no complex procedures. They must know who I am because only a glimpse at my passport was enough to let me in :) Karen and I were on different airlines so she could use miles. This meant however that she had been sitting at the coffeeshop across from customs for quite a while by the time I made it through customs. The convenience of Schiphol Airport was confirmed by the very easy access to our train to The Hague; trains leave from right under the arrival hall area. The Hague is a mere 45 minute train ride.Once arrived we hailed a cab. Embarrased by the amount of luggage we had brought along (not exactly ... read more

Tag 80: Schouwen- Monster, 90.0 km, Fahrzeit 5:20, Durchschn.

No visit to Holland is complete without going to the miniature village of Madurodam where all the major cities of the Netherlands are reproduced in minute detail. This is just the best place for kids and adults alike. I remember visiting Madurodam when I was aged 10 years, and thinking it was just about the best place (especially if you love dolls's houses!). Trains, boats, planes, cars and figures of people all move about in this magical place!... read more

Geo: 52.0783, 4.31365Too funny - the Brit boys came back late last night from the red light district, where they watched a sex show. They told me "Wow ... I didn't know some of those things were possible!" Apparently, good times were had by all!Laurence was listening to his iPod - "In love with a stripper" was playing, and we all laughed because Laurence kept talking about this one lady in the red light district, debating whether or not to take the plunge! Today, I'm going to the Hague - the original plan was to stay a night there, but from what I've heard it's kind of boring, so instead I'm doing it as a day trip and spending an extra night in Amsterdam. As I left, a couple of Spanish senoritas were dancing and singing ... read more

... I enjoy all of these things and therefore when all three came along in one day i was more than happy. Our destination of the day was The Hague, it's about 30 minutes north west of Rotterdam by train and so it was back to the station for us all (Except Erik, he had some work to do). We were going to meet the final piece of the puzzle you might say, Sarojini's Grandmother. The Hague is a very beautiful place, unlike most of the cities in Holland it somehow seems to have remained un-scathed from the bombings during the war. We arrived in Saar's Gran's neighborhood, it was picture perfect all the houses three stories high with extravagant gardens. In true Gran fashion the first thing she said was "I'm sorry but i don't ... read more

Helloo! I finally made my way out to the Netherlands last night after my week in Paris. Trains were delayed, but I still made it here at a reasonable time.. Met my friend Krittika (the one I'm staying with) at the train station, and then made our way over to her family's apartment. Was nice to finally settle in a real house for a bit rather than hostels/hotels! Today we went into Den Haag (she lives in the suburbs of it) to see the Peace Palace and Maduroeam, this place that is basically the entirety of holland in the size of a football field or less. They place the entire country in a walk-through outdoor museum at 1/41th of the size of real life.. It was cool. As you can see, we took many photos with ... read more
