This was my last week of school and on Thursday, Susanna invited me to go to a lunch at the faculty club with the head of the Communications dept and also my friend Bro, who wants to go to Seattle next year. I thought the faculty club was just a cafeteria for faculty members but it was a complete restaurant with waiters and table linens! Quite cool and I ordered a goat cheese and honey salad that was great, but still not as good as my mom's salads. =) We talked about Seattle, UT, and the differences, etc etc. After lunch, I rushed to my last mulitcultural class to give a presentation about our topic. In between all my travels and day trips, I've actually been going to school, believe it or not! This past Saturday, I met up with Nina for a weekly coffee break. We decided to try out a new cafe called Le Monde (means "The World" in French). The place was quieter and more like a restaurant than a bar/cafe. We both just had a cappucino and the bill came out to 3.30 euros. I only had a 20 euro bill and so I gave it to the waiter guy and Nina gave me some change. The waiter returned with my change and left. I looked down at my change: one 20 euro bill, one 10 euro bill, and a 1 euro coin... I'm so confused! Yesterday- I was a bit bored, so I messaged a guy I met through my friend Kristin to see if he wanted to meet for a cup of coffee. He wanted to ask me some questions about Seattle and UW because he plans to do his masters degree there starting next fall. The whole day yesterday was clear, dry, and cold but the minute he messaged me back it started to downpour. Lovelyyy. So I bundled up nice and warm: long wool jacket, long gloves, extra long scarf wound around my neck and chin about 5 times, a winter hat, and legwarmers. So, the yesterday was a much better day after a deliciously greasy dinner of patates (french fries) and a kaas souffle (something cheesy and bready and artery clogging for sure). =) Anouk and I went to the Aldi supermarket to get some wine, beer and snacks before everybody arrived. The people at the party: me, and my housemates: anouk, chiel, arjan, and janne Janne's boyfriend Jasper, Nina and her friend Kim, Wiebke, Anouk's friend Bergit and Lea (Israeli student I met here) and her boyfriend Steven. So there was quite the crowd. I've conquered my cold thanks to plenty of sleep, echinacea, and good thoughts. This is perfect timing since I'll be going out on Thursday to celebrate my birthday! I can't believe it's already here! =) I've been studying as usual and making good progress - only 10 more articles to go! The articles have interesting topics, but there are a few annoying ones that discuss an amazing issue but then at the end you find out that there is not enough research to prove that factor x works at all. what a bummer! Along with reading articles, I started another book alongside the Tortilla Curtain since that one gives me weird dreams. The new book is horrible yet addicting. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I think it's a romance/chick novel. I always made fun of ... read more
