Venice Hi all, we’ve just come back from a thoroughly enjoyable and self-indulgent weekend in Venice. It was our last planned short-break in Europe. God, we are so going to miss being able to nip away from London into mainland Europe on the weekends. It is such a fantastic thing to be able to head away from work on a Friday afternoon and arrive in plenty of time for dinner in your pick of European cities. Soggy tuna and sweetcorn roll with a can of coke at your desk for lunch - fresh pasta with pesto and bottle of wine seated in a lovely little town square for dinner….sighhhh…... It’s hard to know what to write about Venice given that so much has been written about it in the past and so many of you have ... read more

Venice, the home of gondola's and you'd think pidgeons! A beautiful ancient city built on water. Shame it smells! Went to a glass and lace museum. Had a HUGE slice of Pizza! Yum! The best i've ever had and ate countless amounts of gelati - it's so good. Went on a gondola ride with a bottle of wine. ... read more

Northern Italy, visiting with Tony’s extended family has been fantastic. They live in a valley in the Italian alps and the scenery is just stunning. We have been treated like royalty, given a place to sleep, taken to all the beautiful scenic spots in the area, fed wonderful homemade Italian meals and given plenty of local wines to sample. Language has been a bit of a barrier, luckily we have had Bruno (a cousin´s son) to translate and intepret, otherwise hand signals and the phrase book have helped. We went for a walk to Ponte del Orco, a natural stone bridge in the mountains and visited some beautiful lakes. The quaint little township of Levico is where Tony’s family originated and the area is full of relations. We caught the train to Venice for the day ... read more

Our last few days in Venice, we spent exploring the outer islands, including Lido, Murano and the Cemetary Island. Lido was actually surprisingly peaceful and relatively tourist free. We went on Easter Sunday, and walked down to the main church where people were still hanging out, chatting after the service. I guess no matter what faith or where you are, you still stand around and gossip afterwards. After the church we headed down to the beach. Lido is the resort Island of Venice, they have a golf course and horseback riding, they also have cars on Lido which was quite weird to see after being in main Venice where it is just people and boats. It was a long but nice walk to the beach and back. The beach it’s self wasn’t that great or maybe ... read more

Helloo Venice!! Such a unique and crazy place. As you might expect water cannals and bridges everywhere, With numerous boats and gondolas wanting to take you for a ride. However as nice and romantic as the Gondulars looked, they were just a bit too pricey for our budget. The place was filled with fish markets and stalls with every kind of mask you could think of. The people were increadibly friendly and willing to help you and show you around. (if only we spoke Italian) What we didnt expect of Venice was the tinny narrow streets that went in all differant directions, like a maze. - we found many dead ends, and had to have our head down in the map for the first few hours. The best thing about Venice is you can get a ... read more
