We spend today in Pisa - part of the day at least. We had another tour this morning, actually more of a stand in the square and point. Pisa is very small and the only things to see are the Tower, the Duomo, and the Baptistry, and they are all right next to each other. After the tour we were all wondering what we were going to do for 3 hours in Pisa on our own. There was one little market place to go to, and nothing else was really open since it is Sunday. Today, Samantha, Maryanne and I split off from everyone else - they wanted to climb the tower. It costs €15, and that seemed like a bit much, plus we’d been on the roof of the hotel! The view can’t be much ... read more

I lost my blogs from Rome and Barcelona, so I'll redo them here for you. On Saturday Carlos took me into Barcelona and we whisked round the city in his Seat Ibiza. He loves Gaudi architecture, and I can see why. I did have some photo's of me but unfortunately my blog didn't upload and I don't seem to have them available anymore. . I loved the Palau Güell which is a city mansion. Apparently the guests arrived by horsedrawn carrriage into the bowels of the house itself. More interestingly there were small windows high up in the walls of the receiving room so the hosts could get a sneak peek of their guests before coming down to greet them. This gave the lady of the house time to adjust her dress if necessary. Also Park ... read more

We arrived in Pisa on Monday night around 9pm, we got a hotel and hit the city. Pisa is not worth the journey unless you go up the Leaning Tower. That night we walked around and couldn't find anything to do, the sights were ok, and the tower was cool at night, but other then that nothing. We did eat a great meal at Antica Tralloria il Campano and then basically went to sleep. The next day we walked to the Piazza del Duomo and was pretty amazed by the Belle Tower. We went up the Tower for 15 euros and it was well worth it. When you first get in the tower it feels as if you are drunk. The stairs are more up then more down since the tower is in fact leaning. The ... read more

I didn't think we would ever make it. Our exit from Seville began before the crack of dawn to make our way back to Italy. We flew to London Gatwick and bored ourselves for over 6 hours during our layover before landing in a chilly Pisa. We were there. It took 16 hours. But we were there. Our bus driver never informed us of our stop so we took the loop on the route and almost ended up back at the airport. A few hours of sleep later we were in the Campo dei Miracoli enjoying the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the slanting Cathedral and Baptistry that accompanies it. It currently leans at 4.1 meters from the perpendicular and appears that it's going to topple over any minute with just the slightest gust of wind. ... read more

Day 11 - Florence to Pisa to Lucerne This was a big travelling day. We got off reasonably early and it didn't take long to get in to Pisa. The main attraction there of course, is the Leaning Tower of Pisa. This can be found in the Campo dei Miracoli ("Field of Miracles") which is a walled square in the heart of the city of Pisa. Not only does it contain the Leaning Tower, but there is also the Duomo (the Cathedral) and the Baptistery. The sun was out and we had struck another beautiful day. While there were a lot of people at Pisa, I get the feeling we had missed the rush as it was quite relaxed. The first building you see when you enter Campo dei Miracoli is the Baptistry which is dedicated ... read more

Driving toward our destination, we could see the city in the distance with the top of the tower rising above. Due to congestion in the city, tour buses must park outside the city in a parking lot and the passengers then walk. When we pulled in, there were more than 15 buses already parked with others coming behind us. The walk to the tower city is about one mile winding through city streets. I am not sure just what I expected the Tower of Pisa to be but it was not what I expected. Other than the crowd, the first thing visible was the Baptistery and the Cathedral framed in a beautiful green lawn. We could see the Tower in the distance beyond the Cathedral. At our first clear view of the Tower, I experienced a ... read more

On the way to Florence we made a stop at the the leaning tower of Pisa. And of course took the photo of us pushing it over like the other hundreds of people in front of it. In Florence we saw the famous statue of David (Kev was not impressed with his package).... read more

Spent the day in Pisa. Saw the leaning tower, the cathedral, the baptistery. Made a recording of a girl singing in the baptistery from the balcony, great acoustics. Also, saw the cemetery, with lots of Roman fresco and tombs. Mostly, sadly to say, it was just a tourist ridden disappointment that -quite frankly- paled in comparison to the places I’ve previously visited.... read more
