Hello everyone, That's right, we hit Pisa today! It was better than we thought it would be and we spent several hours there. We toured the Cathedral and the Opera(?). The Cathedral was gorgeous with all the arches, carvings, and detail that the people of the time offered to the church. The Opera, it turns out, is where the upper crust of ancient Pisa were entombed. Carefully carved, marble covered graves line the long promenades and sarcofugi (caskets) are placed neatly around the edges. Of course, we also took the time to climb the leaning tower. It is apparent that we aren't alone. The marble steps are worn into bowl shapes from the centuries of use. The view from the top was magnificent! I took the train up to Florence for a few days. Florence is so relaxing compared to southern Italy. It is very Americanized. Usually I don't like that, but for a girl who has spent the last month or so almost being kidnapped, robbed, and conned, it was GREAT! I stayed at the Ostello Archi Rosi which was the nicest hostel I have ever stayed in. They had a lot to do there, and American movies to watch, and some free internet access. I know this doesn't sound like a fun trip, but it was great for me. I was just about sick of southern Italy by this time. I met a great girl that was staying in the same room as me. We went out, saw the sights, and had dinner together. I didn't stay ... read more

We got an early start and got to Pisa by 1100 a.m. David had some cappuccino in the train station which he said was the best he ever had. Pisa is relatively a small little city with a University so he was swarming with students and tourists. It was at least a 2 mile walk to the Leaning Tower but we got there. We haven’t taken one bus, we walk almost everywhere unless we take the train and yes our feet our killing us. There were a bunch of people there all taking there picture as if they were holding the tower up or pushing it over. David was being a party pooper and didn’t want to be like everyone else, but I got him to do it. For some reason he was being shy or ... read more

My whirlwind tour of Italy continued as I took the Eurail to Pisa for the afternoon. It is a cute city! I really like the slower pace compared to Rome. It was still pretty touristy right by the Leaning tower but it was fun to see the real thing. Florence was even more slower-paced compared to Rome. It is so beautiful in Florence. We saw the David, then attended mass at Santa Maria del Fiore. This was my first experience at a mass. Besides the language barrier, I didn't get very much out of the service. It seemed like a show. It was a good experience though and at least I got to go to church while traveling in Italy. We walked around a lot in Florence mostly admiring the sights. We didn't have a huge ... read more

As if three days in Florence and two day trips to Venice and Siena were not enough Birka and i wanted to see the leaning tower of Pisa. I had been there once before and i knew it could be done with full satisfaction in a few hours time. The plan was to check out the tower and be on our way back home in time to catch the last train from Milan. Catching that final train had been on my mind from day one of the trip because if there is one place you do not want to get stuck, its the Milan Central train station. Because of this we woke up early and were out of Florence on one of the first trains to Pisa. I say one of, because Brika and i actually ... read more

We drove through a snow covered winter wonderland this morning on route to Nice via Pisa. When we arrived in Pisa, it was still snowing heavily. Apparently it is very rare for it to snow at Pisa, so we have some very treasured photos with the Leaning Tower. We said goodbye to Italy and Bonsoir as we arrived in France this afternoon. It is sunny in Nice and a very pleasant 11 degrees. We enjoyed the drive along parts of the Italian and French Riviera today and had a good view of Monte Carlo as well. At the Fragonard Perfumery this afternoon we learnt how perfume is made. Tonight we drove to Monte Carlo and had a walking and bus tour of the main attractions including the Grand Prix track, Princess Stephanie’s residence and the marina ... read more

Quasi finito! Dernier jour a Florence!!!
