First thing in the morning we found a nearby internet café to check to see if our booking for ‘The Last Supper’ had been accepted, unfortunately we left it a bit late and didn’t get one. We went back to the hostel and I checked out because it was my last day. We bused into town, and decided to check out the Milan Duomo, (Milan’s main church), It is a fascinating building with an equally fascinating history, dating back to 1386. Check it out here if you want: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duomo_di_Milano). We spent quite some time in here, especially because it was raining outside, (the only occasion during my whole time there). We didn’t really know what to do for the rest of the morning, so walked around again, we found a supermarket that sold whole cooked chickens. ... read more

We were gonna get an early train, but couldn’t be bothered in the end so had a bit of a sleep in until checkout. Our train got delayed for some reason so we went to a café in town with Tamara. We said our goodbyes to her (Thanks heaps for everything Tamara), and made our way to Milan. Once we got into Milan we struggled a wee bit to work out where we had to go, they really haven’t labeled their underground system that well. They have signs but they are few and far between. Once we deciphered it all, we made it onto the correct train which was absolutely chocker, half of the people were football supporters going to AC Milan versus Athens. We thought about going, but tickets had run out, and we wanted ... read more

Absolutely wasted - flying at midnight after leaving Ko Samet early getting little sleep and arriving early morning is the recipe. Despite that the view flying over the Alps was beautiful. Europe is all sparten chic efficiency after asia. It all worx very smoothly with occasional slight language confusion. I stayed one night in Milan to have a look around. The old city is fascinating with its medieval architecture. Apart from the huge number of cafes the other thing thats hard not to notice is just how fashion conscious and dressed (or not) the women are. I checked out the Piazza del Duomo, city walls and buskers before a 2 hour train trip to Bologna. ... read more

Really, really good: Gelato. Made with fresh fruits and ingredients, gorgeously presented in mounds of lusciousness. I tried about 20 different kinds. The best were limone, limoncello, limone di Sorrento (do you sense a theme?), fragola (strawberry), mirtillo (blueberry), frutti di bosco (berries, "fruits of the forest" - isn't that precious??), mela verde (green apple), melone, caffe, tiramisu. Gelato is served two flavours at a time... the combinations are worth playing with, going back for more. Really kind of unpleasant: 35+ degrees. It's hard to look and feel amazing when sweat is dripping from your body, mixing with the grime and dirt of the road, creating mud. The fix? Gelato. Mounds of gelato. So sweet: My guy at Caffe Pavia. There was a bar just down from the apartment I stayed in in Pavia. I ate ... read more

Time spent in the suburbs of Milan: One Month The Garbagnate Camp was comprised of the naughtiest children, however, I stayed with the sweetest family. The Uboldo Camp (a twenty minute car ride away) was the most orderly and best functioning of all Camps… There Paula and I habituated in a new modern flat…with a spiral staircase and lemoncello chilling in the fridge. There was seven tutors and seventy children. ... read more

Listen to GPS We have now lived in Munich one month short of a year. The entire time, we have been procrastinating about renting a car. We don't own one, you see, and we told ourselves that we would rent one from time to time if we wanted to go somewhere not accessible to public transportation. The thing is, we don't know our way around, and it seemed pretty complicated. Highways aren't numbered even and odd for east and west - they have names like Mittler Ring and A-14, A-52, A-36... And the highways and roads change names so often that by the time you figure out which one you're on, you're not on it anymore. But, there comes a time when you just have to take a chance. We tried to calm our fears by ... read more

Milano.... The world fashion capital and capital of shit food! It is quite ironic that people in $3,000.00 Versace suits queue up in McDonalds because the cuisine here is limited and tasteless if you can even find it! Oh well, it gives some relief to our ever-increasing waist lines! Our accommodation was very central in apartments overlooking the main pedestrian shopping mall. A bit like Hay Street but a great deal nicer! From our balcony, the imposing Gothic Duomo (cathedral), with over 3,000 statues, was only a stone's throw away. It was great in that everything was accessible and within walking distance. The highlight of our stay in Milan was going to see Da Vinci's "The Last Supper", made even more famous by Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. You have to book months in advance ... read more

Geo: 45.3374, 9.11564Rained all night and this morning. I hoped to justify the 40 Euro room by sitting on the deck all night/morning but no luck. Checked out and walked to town ... much better hiking down than it was hiking all the way up yesterday. Walked past a gourmet deli .....all sorts of hot pasta and rice dishes. Where was this last night? Would've been a great and relatively cheap meal. I've been trying to speak some Italian with very little success. I speak it with a bizarre mix of English/Spanish/French in my accent. At the Como train station I bought a fruit cup from a vending machine ... apple sauce! Wonder if I bought baby food by accident ... it tasted like crap. Got to Milan and used the internet for awhile and caught ... read more

Going into the city in Milan was a very errie experience, there was a huge train station with almost no one in it. i thought the previous night maybe it was just because it was so late, but it was the same for every trip any time. Maybe the locals just use cars now or the population concentration has changed but it was just wierd. The city centre of Milan is like no other, very beautiful in its own way but i didnt really like it. its just stone, concrete and tinted glass, it felt like a ghost town to me but still with lots of people walking around, it felt dead. There are no street vendors, nowhere to sit and absolutely no greenery anywhere to be found and lots of graffiti. You cant get out ... read more
