We’ve decided that us Aussies are probably the world’s least passionate conversationalists. We tend to mutter. We also tend to understate everything; we’d use a phrase like “this is a bit of alright” to describe one of the Seven Wonders of the World. And our tone of voice couldn’t ever be construed to imply that we were even vaguely excited about anything. Southern Europeans, on the other hand, radiate passion whenever they open their mouths, even though most of the time we’ve got absolutely no idea what they’re talking about. It also seems to be compulsory in these parts to use your hands to accompany any verbal utterance, no matter how mundane, and if you’re getting really excited about something, well everyone else needs to stand back or suffer the consequences. Today started as each day has for us at our little cafe with cappuccinos and cornettes (croissants stuffed with grape jam!) Warm from the oven! We decided we would take a short boat trip along all the caves underneath the old town. WOW! The sea was rough, which we didn't like but the sun was shining and the color of the water just beautiful and so clear! We walked a bit out of town toward a small bay to catch our boat. We spent one hour which was enough but other than the rough sea and over zealous driver it was so much fun, also to see Polignano from this angle was really a sight! We hung out after the ride with a cold beer watching the locals lay in the sunshine. Then decided to do ... read more

what I say except it's like walking around in a postcard! we left London a few days ago and arrived in Bari Italy which is a thirty minute train ride to what was our main destination! Bari is a port town located on the tip of the heel of Italy on the Adriatic Sea. Often called the breadbasket of Italy, or the jewel of Italy. Bari itself was okay, the old town was very pretty and our hotel was just beautiful! Leslie and walked around upon arriving in search of a drink and maybe a bite of food. It was quite busy with all the Italians enjoying a stroll and chatting on all the corners with friends. We found a small cafe/bar and managed to squeeze in and order drinks in our limited Italian. We spent ... read more

Yesterday, I went out around 5 pm to join in the afternoon, pre-dinner,l “passaggiata” and to get a piece of pizza to hold me over til tomorrow. I dropped in the McCafe (McDonalds) and found what looks like really healthy food, a tomato wrap with mozzarella and basil, also a chicken .Caesar salad. I may eat there before I leave so I can find out for sure. I also found a wine shop, bought a bottle of local wine to take back to hotel room to drink while watching an Italian movie. Wine trumps popcorn any day or night. The wine shop doubles as kind of restaurant with beautiful salads, so that’ll be another meal. So, the lesson I learned was don’t judge a place by your mood. Change your mood and the place takes on ... read more
