Translation: I don't speak Icelandic. That saying can be found on many items - tshirts, sweatshirts, mugs, etc. Reykjavik has a very small town feel. We've wandered the waterfront and downtown area a bit over the last two days. Janet and I met in baggage claim after arriving at the airport. Customs were the quickest and most low-key I have ever been through. We didn't even have to fill out any entering documents. After settling into our accommodations, we met with our booking agent to go over our driving itinerary. Sola was incredibly helpful with logistics and suggestions for activities along our drive. I have been reunited with my beloved skyr haha - that can only mean one thing - I have landed in good old Iceland. I am so exhausted... already haha, but I had a fantastic day =) I landed in Keflavik to find out that today is Iceland’s Independence Day - partyyyyy. Oy. Too bad I’m running on fumes as is… otherwise I could’ve enjoyed more of the “festivities”. I arrived at the hostel at the same time as 3 other girls from Canada, so we walked around a bit and went for breakfast. (Flights arriving at 6:30am are so not cool.) After that I headed off the BSI to make sure my tickets were confirmed for Ishestar (horseback riding) for the afternoon. A long weekend trip to Iceland is a fantastic getaway from London. Iceland is very unique in that it offers something that you don't find anywhere else in Europe - vast amounts of space and interesting landscapes...the kind of thing you take for granted when you come from Australia and have travelled through South America. We were happy just to get to Iceland after the volcanic eruptions of early 2010 which caused havoc across European airspace and required some fairly large scale clean up of part of Iceland. By the time we arrived there was no sign of volcanic eruption, well much of the landscape was already molten lava, so at least not any evidence of recent volcanic activity. Le 20 mai, Ce matin on se réveille avec un beau gros soleil dans la fenêtre. On a mis le cadran plus tôt car je voulais absolument aller faire une promenade en amoureux sur le bord de la plage. À 7:30 tapant, on part, c'est très beau et très romantique!!! Il n'y a que nous qui sommes debouts à cette heure­. On admire longuement la puissance de l'océan puis on retourne à notre guesthouse se préparer notre petit-déjeuner. Nous ne sommes pas pressés, la dame de l'hôtel a réservé pour nous une balade à cheval à 9:30, je suis toute énervée, je vais enfin avoir la chance d'essayer un poney islandais. Le 18 mai, Ce matin, nous avons la chance de nous réveiller avec le soleil. La chance de Carlo s'arrête néanmoins là. En effet, au matin en allant visiter la salle-de-bain, il a oublié de barrer la porte et a fait la rencontre d'une charmante touriste inconnue. Je me demande lequel des 2 était le plus surpris de la rencontre! On déjeune puis on se rend au hangar où se trouvent les bateaux de rafting. La dame de l'hôtel nous avait fortement suggéré d'apporter un gros polar avec nous et de mettre notre maillot de bain sous nos vêtements. Jusqu'à présent, rien de trop compliqué. Vient le moment d'enfiler le wet-suit... et là, c'est une vraie partie de plaisir... on doit enfiler le wet suit par-dessus le maillot ET le polar... des heures et des heures ... read more
