Vcerajsi den sme zobrali skutocne dovolenkovo. Rano sme sa boli kupat v Hofsose. Maju tam dva bazeny s geotermalnou vodou priamo na utese nad morom, takze okrem prijemnej horucej vody sme mali fantasticky vyhlad rovno z bazena. Ta s tymi nasimi doma nemala okrem tmy a ... read more

I went to Iceland for 5 days, before heading on to Scotland where I spent almost a month. Iceland was geologically one of a kind and just gorgeous. I never got tired of the black sand beaches, the basalt columns where the puffin birds nest, the glaciers, the rock formations, the endless lava fields, a geyser (Icelandic word!) or two, and the volcanos. I've ever felt so humbled by the strength and power of the Earth. It was amazing to be so aware of being on a planet that tilts on an axis towards the sun in a certain way. In Iceland, I NEVER saw the sky dark. I was told the bright daylight dimmed to dusky skies between 11pm and 2am. For five nights I stayed at the Bus Hostel in Reykjavik. The hostel had ... read more

After a fantastic wedding day we are off on our honeymoon! We flew to Reykjavik with Icelandair from London Gatwick arriving at 15:10. It was quite mild which was pleasantly surprising. Oli strolled across the tarmac in his shorts scoffing at the idea that we hadn’t brought enough warm clothes. The airport is not the most efficient we’ve been through and we ended up leaving the airport at 16:00. Before arriving I had booked tickets with Reykjavik Excursions to the Blue Lagoon, a large geothermal outdoor spa around 20km south of the airport. There weren’t many signs around and we didn’t know where to catch the bus from, so being British we love a queue so we joined the longest queue we could find and hoped for the best. It started to rain, and the temperature ... read more

We woke to another fine day, we have got to like this weather after the wet start from Reykjavik seven days ago. It was Nikki's 50th birthday today and Nigel must have mentioned it to Asgeir, our guide, because before we set off he and the driver came down to the back of the bus where we were seated and sang Happy Birthday in Icelandic to her. We drove through beautiful countryside to Deilartunguhver, which is the world's largest and powerful hot water spring with a flow rate of 190 litres of water per second. The homes and businesses of Borgarnes and Akranes use this water for heating and close by there were tomatoes growing in hot houses also using the water for heating. There was a stand of bagged tomatoes with an honesty box so ... read more

For the second year in a row, we visited the Golden Circle. We wanted to make it different, and we were able to experience something different at each stop. At Þingvellir, it was different by virtual of the huge crowds. We had to park more than a mile from the visitor’s center at the Oxarafoss parking lot. That meant we got to see Oxarafoss, which was too far for Kai to walk last time. This time, he never once complained about the walking. The gorgeous blue skies didn’t hurt. In fact, it was so warm that I stripped down to my tank top! It must have reached 60° Fahrenheit. This time, we were prepared, with Icelandic cash, to pay for the restrooms. I had intentionally withdrawn cash to pay for both the tolls to Borgarnes and ... read more

After a short flight from Oslo and gaining two hours in the process, I arrived in Reykjavik around four thirty yesterday. My transfer to my hotel included a stop off at the Blue Lagoon. As the day was almost over there were only two times left to depart from the Blue Lagoon and that was 7:00 or 9:00pm. The Blue Lagoon is a twenty minute drive from the airport and a 40 minute drive from Reykjavik city centre. Upon arriving at the pools, I learned that they are one of 25 Wonders of the World. When still encumbered with suitcases it is a breeze to check them in at the designated building beside the car park and receiving a ticket number which you pay for with your entry fee to the pools. This involves a short ... read more

After an intense 2 days of sightseeing, we decided to give ourselves a bit of a sleep-in, have a decent breakfast and tour around ReykJavik. For the past few days, we have been eating Skyr for breakfast…Essentially Icelandic Yogurt that is more like cheese. Its really good, but filling! We headed to a great little “Koffihaus” about a block away from our flat. In case I forgot to mention, our place is in a GREAT location in central Reykjavik, walking distance to everything. We had a nice breakfast, latte and decided to start with the Hop-on, Hop-off bus tour. I’ve done these in a few cities and they are great especially for getting you bearings. This one wasn’t quite as remarkable, but we got to see the city and it got us to the locations we ... read more

Up early again today for our second tour... luckily it was our alarm today and not an obnoxious party that woke us! This time we are headed inland to what Icelanders refer to as the Golden Circle. It covers a 300Km loop from Reykjavik, into central Iceland and back. Our guide took us down a less travelled route out of the city and we got to see some amazing scenery. We headed Into the mountains - The mountain range is young by geological standards only about 5000 years old and formed by the very active volcanos in the region - we are actually travelling along and in between the N. American and Eurasian Plates, so a very active region. The terrain is very unusual and there have actually been many movies and TV series filmed in ... read more

Well, it seems that this is the end. Saying goodbye to those 35 dogs was heartbreaking. Each one of them looked into my eyes as i said goodbye, except Trooper, who was more interested in Moonlight who was laying down near him. I left the kennel on Sunday night after coming to the decision with Siggi because Monday is one of the biggest travel holidays of the year with lots of traffic. I got to do 2 tours, my last one at midnight. My final team was Hammet and Anubis in lead, behind I had Caesar and Franka followed by Nanook and Taiga and Narnia with Nilak in wheel. As it would go, the tour was awesome and the sunset was one of the best we've ever had. When we got back to the kennel I ... read more

Our first full day in Iceland! We had a tour pickup scheduled for 8:30... Alarm set for 7, and at 5:30am I am appalled to wake up to the upstairs neighbour blasting (and singing) Baby Got Back... WTF SERIOULSY!?! We later found out that like Canada, Iceland also has a national holiday today. Asshats upstairs didn't get home until 5:30 and decided to have a singing party upstairs. So jetlagged as I am - Maxine and I were up early to start our day and first full day of vacation. :( Todays tour was a full day through the Reykjanes peninsula - which contains Reykjavik, Grindavik, The Blue Lagoon and a number of other important towns. the peninsula is also where the North American and European tectonic plates are divergent plates, meaning they are opposing each ... read more
