Prve dva dni sme sa vybrali cez Golden Circle - Geysir, Gulfos, jedno padnute ... read more

With no other ideas of what to do, and the desire to see puffins, we all set off for the South Coast – in a single car this time as we had no luggage. We went straight to Seljalandfoss, a long drive, because no one wanted to go to the Njal’s Saga museum again. We did get gasoline in Hverdagerdi, but didn’t visit the lovely bakery again. At Seljalandfoss, we made an effort to do something new. Of course we walked behind the waterfall again, but it didn’t have the same magic the second time. On the other hand, Kai did it – bravely – for the first time. This time, we walked along a pathway to the left, which I hadn’t remembered from last time, and found the hidden waterfall. Several waterfalls must be passed, ... read more

Finalement, on ... read more

I love going around with my tourists. Of course every group is different. I had a group from Singapore coming in on Feb. 28 and they left on March 8. They were very nice and understanding. You may wonder why I say understanding – you see, we have had the most terrible winter I can think of. Constant wind. Let alone the snow we have had, but the wind is so awful. Out of 90 days (back to beg. December) there have been 40 very windy days. And driving a bus in much wind is not really a pleasure. The first days were fine. I picked them up at the airport on Saturday Feb. 28 and we went straight to our hotel about 2 hours from Reykjavik. Snow blowing across the road on our way, but ... read more

Geo: 63.4349, -20.2711Iceland was one of those many countries that we had hoped to see if the opportunity ever presented itself. Some years ago we were at a travel show in Toronto with Dave and Deb B, and the good folks of Iceland were offering up a special 4 day stop that was surprisingly affordable. Deeper digging suggested that most of the 4 day 'adventure' would be spent neck-deep in the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon trying for that ever-elusive dewy soft skin. When Dave B found out that a manicure/pedicure was also on the menu he seemed pretty keen but after a much needed booster shot of testosterone, he also decided to put it on the back burner. As our faithful readers will know, the very rare things I actually say no to suddenly ... read more

Kävimme aamulla katsomassa viereistä Skogafossin putousta. Ajoimme sitten 30 km itään ja kävimme katsomassa Vikin mustaa hiekkarantaa. Sen pidemmälle emme jatkaneet itään, vaan käännyimme takaisin. Paluumatkalla satoi. ... read more

Having limped to our hotel in the dark in a snow storm the previous night we hadn't seen anything of our surroundings so it was a total surprise to see what a beautiful spot we are in when I open my curtains and blink in the bright sunshine streaming in the next morning. I quickly get showered and dressed and have a spot of breakfast before heading out to explore. Close behind the hotel is a big mountain range, the snow dazzling off its steep sides in streaky patterns. In front, only a few hundred metres away, is the sea! What a wonderful setting for a hotel and how lucky are we to be greeted by sunshine. I head down towards the fenced off cliff looking down on the seashore and spot a couple of curious ... read more

So today I begin my 2-day trip to the south of Iceland with EXTREME Iceland. I'm hoping the tour company's name provides the exciting trip it seems to promise. I've been looking forward to this trip more than any other so expectations are high. I'm picked up at my hotel and taken to Extreme Iceland's base where Bjorn our tour leader for the trip is waiting for us in a minibus that quickly fills up with people among whom are lots of excitable young Chinese girls! As we set off we have problems with Bjorn's headset mike - he's on his own so needs to be driver and guide as he's going along so this is kinda important equipment. We even have to go back to base to sort it out which isn't a good start, ... read more

Geo: 63.9331, -20.9971Headed off early for the airport as the traffic to Heathrow can be a nightmare. Good decision me thinks. Got to T1 in good time.... It's empty and really quiet due to the terminal being refurbished so most of the outlets were boarded up (less places to spend money which can only be a good thing) Enough time for a latte and a full English. Julie's happy as she has her bottle of water for the plane and a shiny new magazine. Perfect start to the holiday. After a 3 hour flight landed in Keflavik, got through baggage and customs in about 15 mins only to wait in the Avis queue for about 45 mins because there was only one member of staff on the desk. We picked up a Nissan Qashqai and drove ... read more
