Day 37, 7th July. Komárom - Estergom - Szentendre - Budapest (Budaors) Early, at 6am, Scott and I walked around to the thermal-baths next to the site while the others were sleeping. The hot mineral waters were so refreshing to tired legs. For breakfast we ate bread and cheese rolls as the others were waking up. We did manage to be on the road for 10 am for our trip along the Danube to Budapest which turned out further than expected! The wind was in our faces before we turned the bend. Estergom was beautiful with its impressive basilica. Further on we went for a dip in the Danube, which was lovely. The wind then became favourable on the last section directly south into the city. Toby had arranged to meet some friend of the family ... read more

It has been very hot in the last couple days. Maybe I am too Canadian now. I can't handle the heat. It had many thunders in the afternoon and it didn't rain. But finally it rained for 2 mins and the air was alot cooler. Being a bad conference visitor, I have to skip some of the talks. So I skipped 2 afternoon sections and went to a SPA. :) Well, Spa in Budapest means a hot spring with swimming pool. I went to Gellert bath which is one of the biggest in town. It has swimming pool, hot (warm) springs, male only hot springs, female only hs. I couldn't figure out in my lifetime why I need to in the male only hot springs. I went and checked out and saw a sign for massage. ... read more

I went to bed very early tuesday night. Hoping to see some interesting topics in the conference. It took a few mins walk to the conference building. I was a little shock of how disorganize it is. I was quite concern about the amount of people in this conference. I wouldn't say it has more than 120 people. After the signature speakers in the morning. I was quite excited about the afternoon sections. There were 9 different sections all at the same time. It turned out that many of the speakers were not here and the organizer didn't bother to tell us. I could see 6 diferent speakers and I only saw two of them. This conference is just bad. I can't use any better way to describe it. Not even internet service for the visitors. ... read more

I put some stuff in the cabin and i walk out to the hallway to get some air. I saw a girl with a canadian t shirt on. She is from Halifax and she knows Sarch McCardy who went to highschool and university with me but graduated one year after me. (This makes me wonder about 3 degrees of jacky li. Have you heard about 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon?) We were talking about halifax and life. Apparently the woman in my cabin didnát enjoy listening to the conversation and she got up and smashed the door. The train havenát even move yet. There were some other little things but hey I am on vacation. I don't use my brain to remember the bad things. About 95% of the passengers left in Vienna, I moved to ... read more

Budapest Budapest is one of those cities that I was glad to have visited, but I don't feel a strong compulsion to return. It reminded me a lot of Prague, which has simliar architecture and a big river dramatically running through the town, in this case bisecting the cities of Buda and Pest (pronounced Pescht). Although I was there during the week, I was surprised how empty the streets were at night, even in the main areas. The two things a visitor must do are to walk around and see all the buildings, statues and monuments of the Austro-Hungarian empire and what remains of the communist Russian rule and also to relax in the public baths, which are heated by natural hot springs and offer spa services. Hungarian people of all shapes, sizes and ages frequented ... read more

Friday afternoon and it has been raining all day. I have flown across Europe to experience the Central European summer and its raining. If I wanted Rain I would have stayed at home and sorry bout the length of this entry as I haven’t been able to get to a computer as the one in the hostel is always down and runs on Linux making putting pictures on impossible for me After writing my last blog I wondered around Budapest for a bit, mindful that I had to meet my Hungarian friend Viktor at his university to help him in his job training his team. I wondered upon the Basicilla of St Stephen which was a huge grand church. I walked around and it was pretty cool. The best features were seeing the right hand of ... read more

hey guys! im in budapest now! I'm staying with Jodi, one of my friends from IU. Her parents have been missionaries here for the past 20 years, so she grew up here her whole life minus 2 years. Its been soooo nice to be with a family and in a house. When I first got here I was a little sick with a fever and felt awful. So yesterday we didnt do too much because I just felt so sick and achy. Plus it was about 45 or 50 degrees (no lie) and rainy, so it was just miserable! We did treat ourselves at a Turkish bath house though! this was quite an experience, but very relaxing. If you'd like to know more details about this, you can ask me personally, but I'm not going to ... read more
