Ah yes...fabulous Budapest. I gotta say, being a traveller is rough. Yesterday we slept in, wandered around town, then spent over three hours trying out different thermal baths at Szechenyi Furdo baths in the central park in Budapest. Yah...life if rough. We arrived in Budapest after a 7 hour train ride through the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Hungarian countryside, at around 7pm. Train rides are getting very boring, and we are starting to realize at certain moments just how stupid we are. It's really very humbling. Before we got on our train we actually spent a full hour panicking because our train was late and we thought that maybe we were in the wrong place. When the train actually arrived, we realized that it was in fact on time, and we are all just ridiculous ... read more

We are now back on tour. It was fun all coming back together again, minus Talitha (sad but she will be back soon! - she is staying back in the States until the first of May for a wedding). We have two weeks in Hungary before going to Slovenia. We are staying at the JR Hungarian base which just happens to be in an incredibly AWESOME location. It is right on the Danube (like as close to it as you can get) between the white bridge (the Elizabeth) and the green bridge down the river (not sure of the name). So we are staying there for two weeks as a base. We’ve had 4 concerts already and will have 4 more. My mom even got to see the first concert and has a video of ... read more

For the most part in Hungary there were mainly believers at the concerts. In one city (Godollo) we had a concert in a nightclub. Mainly believing youth came. In Budapest Kaspars felt led to ask if believers needed prayer to renew their relationship with God. In response many youth came forward for prayer. I also spoke with a guy from California who is in Budapest doing missionary work. We even got to have an outdoor concert on a big stage. The only down side was that the dance surface was concrete so we didn’t do one of the songs that requires many movements to occur on the ground. Since it was outside many random people walked up to watch out of curiosity. That night thirty people responded to the prayer for salvation. All of the guys ... read more

First: I've added pictures to the last few journals, so please go back and check them out! April 26, 2006 Things are definitely winding down. Our general mood can be described as demure…in fact we all took an afternoon nap. The day’s goal was to revisit Nagy’s childhood home and school, as well as a library she remembers frequenting that displays our family’s crest in the stained glass window. We also were able to locate A-ma’s (Nagy’s mom) home where she was born and raised. It was nice to stroll around town and relax and just enjoy the sights. The first stop was the 17th century library, which we were surprised to find, had been relocated. The windows obviously remained, but since the library is no longer in use we had to do a little sweet ... read more

(Nagy’s childhood country estate): This has been a magnificent day. We didn’t know what to expect since contact with the hospital and Nagy’s old friends has always been sporadic and difficult. We had a late start and arrived around 1:00 pm. The town was very quiet and we had no idea how to contact Joseph (the director) or Janos (friend and translator). However as we approached the house (now a home for severely mentally challenged women) a woman was walking out and we were able to get her attention. She didn’t speak English, but seemed eager to take us somewhere and quickly jumped into our car. We drove just a block or so and she indicated that we should park and walk to a particular house. There a girl walked out and (thankfully!) greeted us ... read more

Our last day in Budapest was well and truly family day. A visit to the cemetery to see the old man in the morning turned into a 3 hour mission to tend to all the graves of the dearly departed that used to live in Nagymama’s block. The place is huge - there are roundabouts in the middle of the cemetery - so you can understand how a quick visit turns into a day trip and lots of false turns. The cemetery is literally snowed under over winter so most people are only just beginning to return after their Christmas visits…notable by the number of Christmas trees and decorations that hang over a lot of the grave sites. As a result the place looked a little run down, but in a couple of weeks the Spring ... read more

What an amazing city!! I decided to come and visit Megan Foreman in BP while she is studying there. The people were so nice and warm too. We did meet a Hungarian guy who spoke English with the strongest Brittish accent I have ever heard...it was bizarre. We had a really great time though and the weather was beautiful!! (You will also note from the picture that Oklahoma is no longer "Native America" ... It's Hungary. I still haven't really figured out why a Hungarian was dressed as a Cherokee...)... read more

April 22, 2006 What a surprise this day turned out to be!! Again, I’m getting ahead of myself … Ok… Early this morning, around 5:30, Mom and I woke to photograph the area at sunrise (see pictures) and complete our historical documentary of the Castle District… I should have known then that the day was going to be leisurely when we were able to slow down immediately and have an espresso while waiting for Nagy and Liz to join us…Breakfast was served at 7 and… we took our sweet time… Our car arrived around 8 am, but was promptly blocked into the parking spot when we weren’t looking… Oh darn… We had to spend the morning shopping, touring the Matyas Church, and enjoying a German Orchestra in the garden next to the Bastion… The goal for ... read more

A quick bit of shopping in the morning to complete our list of Hungarian essentials, before we braved the haphazard road system with Marti heading to Viségrad for the afternoon. Following public pressure (not coincidentally there’s a general election this year - hmmmm), the Hungarian government has recently begun a massive project to upgrade the roads in Budapest that have been neglected for the best part of 20 years. Out go the broken sunken cobble stones - romantic as they are, they are not built for the millions of cars that fly through Budapest everyday - and in comes the tarseal. In theory a great plan, but around every corner you will find road works and a traffic jam, especially on the weekend. It would be the same in any major city around the world (except ... read more
