Budapest
Jodi and me in Budapest!!! hey guys! im in budapest now! I'm staying with Jodi, one of my friends from IU. Her parents have been missionaries here for the past 20 years, so she grew up here her whole life minus 2 years. Its been soooo nice to be with a family and in a house. When I first got here I was a little sick with a fever and felt awful. So yesterday we didnt do too much because I just felt so sick and achy. Plus it was about 45 or 50 degrees (no lie) and rainy, so it was just miserable! We did treat ourselves at a Turkish bath house though! this was quite an experience, but very relaxing. If you'd like to know more details about this, you can ask me personally, but I'm not going to go into much detail on this. If you know anything about bath houses, then you might be able to guess, but dont assume too much! Haha! The bath house was so nice though. We both got a 15 minute massage and then spent about an hour in the baths. Basically it is just 2 pools, one of which is 36 degrees celcius, body temp, and the other is 38 deg. it felt amazing to go into the hotter one becasue my back and neck have been so sore from traveling so much! It was super relaxing and warmed us up a ton!
Next we went to a covered market. It was an old train station, but is now the market. The downstairs is a food market with veggies, fruits, candies, meats, etc. The upstairs is all Hungarian items and its a major touristy place! It was a lot of fun and nice ot be out of the freezing cold rain!
Next, we went to a Tea House and ordered some amazing tea with all kinds of fruit and herbs in it! i loved it. its been so nice to be with jodi not only to just spend time with her and actualy get to talk, but also so that i have someone to communicate for me. She is completely fluent in Hungarian since she grew up here. She attended a Hungarian school growing up. Its so cool to hear her speak and its such an unusual language, or at least one that I am not used to hearing. But since Ive never heard her speak another language, im fascinated by it when she does here!
We came back early last night cause i just wasnt feeling well, changed into pjs, then watched Pride and Prejudice with her fam. We also ordered pizza which it was the biggest pizza I have ever seen. Maybe about 2 feet by 2 feet? Not sure, btu it was HUGE! It was good too! It was nice to sit around, relax, and be warm!
Today was a much nicer day than yesterday. We borrowed Jodi's parents car and drove into the city. We parked at one of the main squares to walk around some, but when we came back, we were boxed in! So we just decided to take public transportation and walk around town some. Her friend was with us, which was a lot of fun. Her friend is Hungarian, but spoke amazing English. I got to see a good amount of Hungary today I think. It was nice to have them as my tour guides so I didnt have to wander around with a map trying to read this completely foreign language to find my way around! We tried to go up to the castle tonight, but it was POURING down rain which Jodi and I got stuck in. We got soaking wet running to her car, but it was hilarios! we drove around for a bit so i could see more of budapest, and we ended up seeing 2 beautiful rainbows side by side! We also went to a Hungarian restaurant tonight. I had some kind of hungarian dish, lasagna looking thing. I'lhave to ask Jodi the real name cause thats definitely not it. But for dessert we had a crepe type thing with honey and bananas and vanilla pudding and whipped cream and melted chocolate and chocolate sprinkles...oh so good! I wish we had stuff like that in the States. I'm gonna be on a mission to find something like that!
well thats about all for now! Hasta luego...
I went with Jodi to a worship thing at her church tonight. Its hungarian and english, but tonight i felt like it was mostly hungarian, which was fine with me. I had no idea what was going on really, but it was really cool to hear people singing worship songs in a different language. it made me realize how awesome God is that He knows all these different languages, that he created them all. I just found it really neat to see people worshipping God like that in a different language. It just makes Him seem even bigger and more awesome to me! Im going to the same churh with Jodi in the morning which Im excited about. Ive realy missed goign to church...its been 3 months now at least! I'm excited to get back to the States to do this!
Overall, Budapest has been sooo great so far! Its been great to be with a family, have homecooked food, sleep in a 'real' bed (at least 11.5 hours the past 2 nights), relax, etc. I'm looking forward to this when I get back to the States. I can't believe I'l be back in 3 days!
