We are staying in Mainz along the Rhein Valley. We arrived in good time in the early afternoon yesterday then decided to be productive and go and book our final train tickets for Amsterdam. We searched for ages at the train station but couldn´t find a ticket office so hopped on a quick train to the main Mainz train station which took 3 mins but unfortunately we "hopped" on the wrong train back so instead of travelling 3 mins back to our hotel we ended up an hour out into the Countryside where there were no trains back! Luckily (?) we met a nice english speaking German guy on the train who helped us get a bus back (which took another hour!). How typical! We treated ourselves to a nice Mexican after the ordeal though. Today ... read more

Holiday on Ice 65th Anniversary biggest pin wheel I was fortunate enough to be asked to join in the biggest pinwheel ever this weekend. It was put together for Holiday on Ice’s 65th anniversary and we had 65 skaters join onto a pinwheel for Guiness book or world records to create the biggest pinwheel ever!! So, all of the Energia cast was needed and members from the other shows to accomplish this. Thursday after Energia rehearsals we jumped on a bus for Mainz, Germany to rehearse and then do it live for German television on Sunday afternoon. A five hour bus ride and we finally arrived around one in the morning. On Friday we left for an arena that I later learned we will be going back to in December to perform our show! It ... read more

Ethan and I are on our way to the Middle East and had a 14 hour stop over in Frankfurt. When my friend in Mainz heard about it he kindly offered for us to come to his place for some rest and a visit. He was also kind enough to take Ethans Class Afloat stuff from us and store it until our return in two weeks.... read more

It was with some irony that after my last long blog, I stepped out of the internet cafe in Mannheim, only to be hit by yet another shower of rain. Still we had a lovely hostel to keep us dry and all was good with the world really. Actually, I got to thinking after I sent of the last blog that I may be giving the impression that we're not enjoying ourselves, which is definitely not true. We've met so many good samaritans, seen so many wonderful little villages and sites along the way that my only real complaint is that this stupid camera I'm stuck with can't really capture any of it and cameras are almost double the price in Europe than they are in Tasmania. Anyways, enough of that. We were told that ... read more

Last night I stayed at a hostel in Mainz. It was a LONG walk to get to the tourist information office which provided us with a map of the city. The heavy backpacks didn't help. When we got the map we found that the hostel was no where near, so we hopped on a bus. On our way we got to see what some of the neighborhoods looked like. It's so interesting to me to see how people from different parts of the world live. The style is unique. They're very quaint here. It seems even the simpler designs have charm. We explored the town a bit once we settled in. First, we saw the city's dom: The Cathedral of Mainz. It was gorgeous--almost too perfect to be real. I'm seeing a lot of sights like ... read more

We really have a fair amount of things to catch up on even though it only has been one week today traveling around Germany. We have seen some wonderful and not so wonderful things along the way. I'll start back in Hamburg where we first started and getting off the plane, jumping in a bus in the middle of no where and turning out onto a dirt road with the trees brushing the side of bus, I thought we were in the wrong country. Of course we were on the cheapest flight we could get and it was about 1 1/2 hours to the city from there! We arrived in Hamburg pretty early in the morning so set about meeting up with our couchsurfing host for the next couple of nights. We got the underground train ... read more

Greetings from Marburg! I hope life is treating all of you well wherever you are! Germany is fine; slightly warm, but we’re adjusting. There have been a couple of technical/practical changes here: 1. I’ve moved to a new place. I knew I was going to move since I arrived in Marburg. The apartment that I lived in last month is owned by the program where I’m studying German. They had a huge influx of students for the month of June (about 50-60 more!) and so they turned my apartment that I shared with two other girls into classrooms. My old bedroom now has about 30 desks in it for students who are learning basic German grammar. Luckily, I’ve moved just down the road. Not too much further! I’m staying with 2 girls from Germany and ... read more

Geo: 49.9166, 7.89359Today I packed up and left Frankfurt and caught the train to Mainz. I left my bag in a locker at the station and headed for the touristy old part of town. At the end of the street I could see the town's main attraction, the cathedral. The cathedral was surrounded by Christmas markets in the nearby town squares. The Dom was also made of red sand stone and is from the 12th century- Romanesque style. Inside it was okay looking. Spent the next few hours browsing the market stalls and the old town streets. Had a final cup of mulled wine- perfect on a cool day!By now I have had enough of Christmas markets. It was then time to catch the bus to the airport and fly back to London.... read more
