I made it to Berlin. I took the night train from Paris to Berlin which was very pleasent, but wouldn't have been half as nice if I didn't have a private sleeper (thank you Mom). But by not paying attention, I missed my stop and had to figure out how to take the Sbahn back to my original stop. I arrived half an hour late and Steffi and I found eachother with both of us on the verge of tears. We then spent the after noon walking around Berlin, sightseeing (checkpoint Charlie, etc). The day before yesterday and zesterday were spent at the local festivle here in Bernau. They celebrate a midievil battle in which the people of Bernau beat the Hueseten. It was great with a parade with handmade costumes and horses and beer carts, ... read more

Guten tag my friends! Actually after just writing that I've experienced a blank on whether or not that really is the word for hello in German....oh well, lets just say it is! Okay, before I tell you about Berlin, I have to send out a huge sincere apology to the country of Belarus, as we completely missed it out of our blog, even though we stopped there for a night. So anyway, better tell you a bit about it, since nobody has ever heard of it, including us til we got there. Belarus used to be part of Russia, I think it was only in the 90's that it became recognised as a seperate country. Its currently run by a president who is said to be 'europes last dictator' not on the scale of hitler of ... read more

Day 63 - June 7 - GERMANY - Berlin Accommodation: Odyssee Globetrotter Hostel My first night train in Europe and it was quite comfy, although I’ve heard those Germans are pretty efficient. I had to share a bunk bed with 5 other people, although I got on the train about 11pm and it was pretty quiet and a smooth trip so I actually slept pretty well. We came into the Berlin outer suburbs about 8am and I got my gear ready to go. I found out from my hostel website that I only had to go one more train station after getting off the night train to get to my hostel stop, and then it was only a 10 minute walk along a main road. It was a pretty nice hostel too. I hadn’t planned a ... read more

This will be a quick blog since we haven´t kept up with this very well and we have a lot to say. So, where did we leave off...oh yeah. We went back to Berlin from Brussels. Did I say that I love that place. The boys came in to meet up with all of us. Nate and Dave came in soon followed by Clint. Soon after their arrival the debauchery began. The agenda soon became clear. Beer, girls and the kind of fun that spawns great stories! Pretty much in that order. We also carried a football around (that´s an American football byGod) everywhere we went. We would go out for passes walking down the streets of Germany. There was also a game of touch football played on the very grounds where the Nazis ordered a ... read more

So we've been having a GREAT time here in Europe! We are back to Berlin after a stay in some other countries. From our first stay in Berlin we headed to Amsterdam and Brussels. Amsterdam was exactly what you would think...or at least what we thought it would be. Lots of peeps in to smoke pot and see some boobs. There are other things to do there but we got that vibe when we entered the door to our hostel and checked in. While we were waiting we noticed a crackhead in the corner getting high. He was alreadz prettz blitzed and lighting it back up. His face was covered in scabs like someone had it with taking his crap and beat the crap out of him about 3 days earlier. He was some college kid ... read more

It was a convertable Beetle and my friend Adriane and I good naturedly nick named it "Hitler" because it was German and it was evil ie: it broke down all the time (my parents had to replace the motor twice) anyway where I am now I would probably do myself good not to repeat that story, and since it was a 70's Beetle chances are it was Brazilian. A day of intense rail travel from Brussels involving a freezing stop over in Leige, where we wondered why rain was coming down through the roof of the train staion only to discover the roof was merley a shell - fantastic, found us in Bonn, a town in which we could stay in a real house whilst visiting our dear friend Aidan. When we got to the station ... read more

So. Every trip has moments like these. Disorientatation and anxiety are really rather common emotions for such hardened travellers as myself (sic). To the point. Since the last entry i've had most of my important stuff stolen and we have had to rather drastically alter our schedule. Aaahhhhh. That wasn't that painful to write, considering. It all happened in an internet cafe, although obviously not the one i'm sitting in at the moment, just across the road from where I still reside, Rosenthaler Platz in Berlin. Within my bright blue Karrimor daypack (backpacker chique non?) were my passport, mine and Abbie's train tickets, 1500 Euros of travellers cheques, digital camera (sorry less photos from now on), ipod, guide to Europe, and amusingly, german phrasebook (explaining my circumstances to three non-English speaking German policemen without it was ... read more

We were in Berlin two weeks before the World Cup, and it was interesting to see them getting ready, from erecting a giant soccer ball in front of the historic Brandenburg Gate to a stadium behind the Parliament building that I thought would get really loud on game days, but found out later that it wasn't a real stadium, but a miniature one where World Cup parties will be held. Since Pam and I were only in Berlin for a day, we explored only in East Berlin. But those few square miles were full of history. The highlight of the day was taking a free walking tour. For an hour and a half, we learned about Berlin during World War II and the following years of communism. I remember when the Wall fell in 1989, but ... read more

We have definitely been slacking a bit with the posts so we will try to get you guys up to speed here. The last time we wrote, we were in Prague, which was great fun. From there it was off to Krakow in Poland...again, a great time. We got in and found a hostel, the Dizzy Daisy, which was...sufficient. That first night we didn't do much, just had dinner and checked out the town, but still it was fun. The next day we decided to do laundry, and to pass the time in between moving things from the washer to the dryer, we went and had a few beers. Just to put things in perspective, we've been in Europe for 3 weeks and we have tried upwards of 50 different types of beer in said time. ... read more
