Kirsten is up and is busy making noise in the kitchen. When I can hear Kirsten making noise in the kitchen without my hearing aids it means GET UP.
I’m up and stumbling toward the smell of fresh coffee, not just any coffee but Rich German coffee. Kirsten is smiling and pecking at her iPad ....as if her status report is 3 days late.
Who are you talking to? Holly ....
Holly!
Yes, her, Joe, Maxine & Pascal are on their way to Italy and will be coming by us around noon. We’re meeting them at this Beer Garden I found right off A-5, I’m SOOO excited.
Ok, whenever we visit Europe or anyplace actually, Kirsten always ask me “see anybody you know?” always! So, I’m always looking.
It’s funny, but you never know, and yes, we have run into family and friends while traveling.
So, Have You Seen Anybody You Know?
We finish breakfast, get the apartment and ourselves cleaned-up and of we go to meet Holly and family for lunch.
Normally we take the back roads, not today, Kirsten is on a mission.
Now, I know a lot of
you know who Holly is... But for the rest of you Holly is one of Kirsten’s dear friends from Winter Haven. She has lived all over, and Kirsten has visited her, and Holly likewise has visited Kirsten.
Holly married Joe; this was BS “Before Steve”. I met Joe, Holly, Maxine and Pascal years ago.
They now live in Amsterdam and have this beautiful apartment in an Italian mountain village of Tereglioslightly north of Lucca Italy. Kirsten and I have been there, and I wrote about it in the blog named “Day 14 Lucca”

Ok, back to today and looking for the Beer Garden. We arrive and park on the street Holly & Joe haven’t arrived yet but will be here soon. We find a shady spot in the beer garden and order a couple beers and enjoy the scenery.
After a copy of beers Holly, Joe, Maxine and Pascal pull up. Everyone piles out and is ready for lunch and getting off the road.
Everyone is hugging as if we haven’t seen each other in decades. Maxine and Pascal have grown so much, WOW!
We drink and eat
and before long.... the dreaded goodbyes come. I believe I see a tear in Kirsten’s eye as they pull away.
Ok, let’s go find that Ravena Gorge Lori keeps talking about. Back in the car were off toward the gorge that Lori and Sam will be visiting this December during Christmas Market. We find the gorge and yes, it’s BIG and has 4-5 tour busses in the parking lot, that’s always a good sign. Lori and Sam will be happy.
We wind our way toward home and Kirsten tell me of this small fest she wants to try to find. Ok I’m in. I load the village name into the MAPS and of we go to Oberharmerbach for their Heimat Abend “Hometown Festival”. We arrive and find the festival, it’s easy, roll the windows down and listen for the music.
Blond hair blue eye kids everywhere, the rest are all on the stage singing and dancing. So cute, kids everywhere all do the same thing they are looking for mutti and pappa “Mom & Dad” just like in Winter Haven. LOL...
After dinner, a few more beers and lots of German songs with kids running all
around us we head home.
It has been a wonderful day; this vacationing life fits Kirsten well.
Maybe we’ll have a rest day tomorrow.....
Good night
