10.08.2004 - Week full of surprises Marseilles, France Yesterday I spent the night at a place, I would have never thought I would - in a hotel room! I arrived in Marseilles on Sunday late afternoon with intention to make as much money as possible and then depart to Spain in the morning. Whenever I come to a new city, I find a hotel and leave there my huge backpack for a few hours and if possible use some free internet when I come and pick it up. This time, too, I left the big heavy backpack in a hotel and went entertaining the streets of Marseilles. After successful evening and night, I went to the hotel and started chatting with the receptionist. After an hour or two of pleasant chat, he asked me if I ... read more

I began this journey thinking i would have heaps of time to relax and be in the cafe writing about my magnificent journey with tales and exciting stories of debortury (spell check), etc etc. but as it turns out... the Trip is Proving to be far more relaxing than that, and I cannot be arsed going to the cafe to tell the likes of you what I am up to all the time;  i was going to keep a diary too but no can do: too relaxed.  So What have we done So far? even With a stop off to the olympic training camp of one Simon Thompson and the rest of  the team; we made it to south of france in record time to spend some time working on our tans and looking good for the ... read more

03.08.2004 - Wild Adventure Taize, France Wild Adventure Bam bam. I hitchhiked to Lyon, when a black van full of terrorists stopped me. They grabbed me, took me with them and cover my eyes with clothes. I am now in their base in the middle of the forest and I am reporting from there... Not this kind of adventure :) This week I experienced the adventure in complete silence. From Slovenia I went to Bologna, spend 2 wonderful days there and then I had some great time in Rome. I hitchhiked from Rome to Taize - for me the most beautiful place on earth. Nowhere else, have I gone so deep into myself, my relationship with God and other people. This week of silence was a new birth for me. The treasures I am carrying from ... read more

So this is officially the most boring and irritating day of my life. However it is slightly improved by the fact that I am in Europe, under any other circumstance, I would not be happy at all right now. Jackie and I were supposed to go to Pisa today, so we left our hotel room, after getting little to no sleep and then went off to the train station in a cab that cost an unexcpected massive amount of money (details of the exact sum will not be mentioned). We recovered from that and took a train to nice. While we were waiting a combination of the heat, the horrid horrid sunburn, lack of sleep and the massive amount of cheese consumed teh day before made me nautious (the mucus is here.....SPASM SPASM!!!! - ten points ... read more

It is bloody HOT outside!!! But on the plus side, all the keys on this keyboard are in the right places. But now I'm so used to the other way that I dont quite know what to do... Oh well. So last we left off was our last night in Lyon. We went out for a fabulous meal in the newer part of town, where a very adorable old couple (Dick and Joie from Iowa) sat next to us. We helped them pick their meals because they didn't know what anything meant. Anyhow, they were quite funny, they were one of those couples where they know each other so well that they know who tells the stories best, so all the time Joie would be like "Ooooh! Dick! Tell them about how you did your laundry ... read more

I've actually been to France before, last October made a overlong day trip on South West trains from Richmond then ferry over to Calais, all in all something to do but a bit pointless so about time it was tackled properly. This trip was travelling in a group to attend a Wedding. Journey was Eurostar to Paris then superb French TGN to Bordeaux. Checked into a charming family run hotel with straight forward crossants and coffee for breakfast of a mind blowing quality. Most activities were around the wedding but a really stylish and laid back city that bathed in sunlight is to die for. For a grand add on there was a day at the nearby beach resarch of Achachon which was as near to a proper beach resort as I've ever reached to date. ... read more

We are now in Lyon, which is a fabulous city with the exception of the fact that it is so hot here I feel that I may die of heat stroke any moment. It is I think about +35 degrees here but also it is a lot more humid so that when you step into a particularily hot spot it feels like your lungs may collapse, whew. Our trip from Paris went well, we had a delicious lunch (I had some meat that I hope was beef...) and of course some more dessert and then said a nice farewell to our wonderfully nice landlord-guy and went to the train station. Turns out we havce to buy reservations (6€) for TGVs so we ended up having to wait awhile. Right now I'm reading Rob Roy by Sir Walter ... read more

Ahhh... Lyon, so peaceful and relaxing, and so insanely hot it istne even funny. Seriouisly, I am dying here. Though it is a nice switch from the cold rain in Scotland and England, I am not used to it being so hot. Sweltering.... "Im melting, melting! oh what a world!!!!" Yeah, so thats the weather here. Very hot - if you didnt get that before...- We left PAris yesterday, sigh.... but we had an awesome timle there and I got rto see the eiffel tower which was something I had been wanting to do for years and years, so I am satisfied. We took a train to Lyon, it was a tgv, Trains de grandes vitesses or in english "a very fast train" It livved up to its name as it was indeed very fast. I ... read more
