I know that some of you have been missing hearing from us, but we have been out of touch, really, for the last 10 days. I hope this tome will make up for it! Friday, September 7, 2007 - Today was tidy-up day, both around the apartment and in things we wanted to do and see. We were on the road and off to Eze again, this time with the camera working. So Kevin was able to take all the pictures he wanted of the town, and then we were off to Grasse. Grasse is the center, so the books say, of perfume making in France. I figured that since Kevin was able to partake of the cognac and Armagnac, I should be able to do the same with the perfume. Actually, the tour of the ... read more

Matkalla vuorille Madame Causse kertoi vastarinnan ajasta (La Résistance) vuosina 1940-45. Ranskalaiset vastarinnan miehet piiloutuivat saksalaisilta vuorille. Ihmettelimme miten kukaan olisi voinut löytää ketään tuosta maastosta. Vuoren seinämät ovat jyrkkiä ja kasvusto tiheää. Ajaessamme kohti Choranche’in kallioita näimme Neron kypärän ” Le Casque de Nero”. Tämä Neron kypärä on vuori, joka näyttää kypärältä. Tällä... read more

September 17, 2008 Paris is a Great City for Kids!! We have spent the last week discovering what a great place Paris is for kids and their parents. Scott and I were not prepared for this revelation, hence when planning to live in France we allowed only a month here (finances helped fuel that decision as well). We figured it was a big city like all others that mostly provides ease of living for adults “san les enfants.” We were very wrong and now with only two weeks left here are so sad at the prospect of leaving. I have spent all day pouting…trying to think of a way to never leave this great city! As I write this my boys are at the parc Champs du Mars…playing rugby in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. ... read more

Something that France does well is make cakes and pastries, for brekkie we had a feed of croissants before having a walk around Marseille’s port. Seeing as the rugby world cup was on, there were wooden statues all over the place with a rugby theme. One featured the all black’s haka so we did the tourist thing and got a photo with them. I apologise to any locals that we terrified. We found an information centre and decided our best option was to bus out to the beach at Cassis. It was a cracking day so we wasted no time in hitting the beach and going for a swim. We had a stroll around the town; bought an ice cream and when we got back the beach was deserted as the wind had picked up big ... read more

Early in the morning I was woke up by some noises which lasted for about an hour before everything went quiet again, but they were long enough to keep me away from dreams (mmm...he was right, I should have got a pair of earplug from him). I decided to wake up at 8:00am and got prepared for my first day without Jeanseb in Paris. Half an hour later I tried to open the door, but no matter how hard I tried, it was still locked!! I checked all the locks on the door and found that there was a lock that could only be unlocked from outside. So I climbed out from the window (oh lucky that his flat is on the ground floor) and tried it with the keys he gave me. All the locks ... read more

Monday 10th September Early to rise, I drove the Kia back to Waterloo Station and walked the 1-2 km from there to work. I found out later that because I'd travelled into the congestion zone after 7am (It was 7.15 to be precise) and didn't pay the fee that day (because I didn't even know!) I'd be fined £50 plus £25 admin fee plus tax! In the end the thieves slugged me £88 which was more than the car cost for the whole weekend! Raarggghhh!! After work I met Em at Buckingham Palace (only a 9 min ride) and we had a little picnic in St James Park. Tuesday 11th September I'd finally got my bike route to work sussed out. I felt like I was the pewter shoe sometimes as a lot of the roads ... read more

This week was a little different from the rest as we had all our normal afternoon classes cancelled and replaced with field trips and movies and such. Monday, we were introduced to our wonderfully gay and highly energetic art history professor who was our first non professor teacher. He had us was "Le Roi Danse", an amazing film about the life of Louis XIV and how he made Paris a center of art and culture... highly recommended (stop complaining, I know it's in French but you can add subtitles!). After class on Monday, I had my interview for my internship. I was so nervous going into it as I'm only used to American style interviews where they grill you and analyze every little story you tell to try to paint yourself in a wonderful shining light. ... read more

Hello everyone, Hope you all had a great weekend. My weekend was great. Friday night I relaxed at home. Saturday morning consisted of shopping with the girls at the supermarket and H&M (I bought a scarf so I can look more french:-)). In the afternoon, Christine and I met Derek at his house, met his host mother, and she drove us to a beautiful park along the Erdre river on the north side of Nantes. Derek's host mom is amazing, I could go on and on about her but I'll save that for another time. The gardens were amazing as well, and the roses were beautiful. We spent the afternoon there walking around and sitting in the grass near the water. Then the three of us took the bus to the IES center and met up ... read more

My first impression of France was not a good one - efficiency does not seem to be existant... but I finally made it out of the airport after more than an hour of waiting in the passport processing line. However, the disatisfaction of waiting in a line whilst extremely jetlagged was soon dispelled when I began travelling through Paris by train. Reality sank in - I had finally made it to Paris! So far I have filled my 2 days walking around the southern side of the Sienne. My hotel is located on Boulevard St Michel which is very close to the Sorbonne, Pantheon and Jardin Luxemburg. I spent yesterday exploring my immediate area, soaking up the sunshine and taking loads of photos. I was impressed by the Pantheon and really enjoyed the climb to the ... read more
