Annecy is considered to be the "Venice of France" and I know why now. It is such a beautiful city, and once you're there, you can easily forget you live in the year 2007. Annecy is only about 30 minutes from where I live if you take the motorway, which has tolls to pay. I think it's about 6 dollars each way, but you can drive over 80 miles an hour, which is fun. Since we left for Annecy somewhat late in the afternoon (I think around 3pm), we were ready to find somewhere to eat when we got there. Annecy is known for its "Old Town" area, so we found a parking space and walked around trying to find it..which wasn't too hard at all! It was definitely NOT a disappointment and well worth the ... read more

Me and Pernille spent the last three days together in Annecy, one of the beutiful Alp-mountain cities in France. Unfortunately the weather was quite bad, but there are tons of things to do even when the weather is bad - for example shopping and eating at nice restaurants ;o) So, after all, we spent two rainy days here where we cut our hair, went shopping and just took it easy and spent time together. On the third day the sky semmed to look brighter and the clouds were not as low as the previous days, so we took the chance to go on a walk in the mountains around Annecy to get a good view of the city and the lake from above. We bought a map and started climbing the mountain. The more the time ... read more

Monday morning started rough: We got up at 4 am to go with Ju and Andreea to Grenoble. Arrived at Grenoble train station we had breakfast before catching the 8am train to St Gervais les bains le Fayet (or something similar). Our goal was to start our top tour to Mont Blanc from there. The locals, of whom noone seemed to have been at the top, gave us very varied advice about where to rent equipment, where to go up and what to bring. But, our strategy "to be blonde" worked very well and we rented very good equipment in a local sportstore. However, the vendor seemed quite concerned though, after our conversation. V: Are you going to Mont Blanc? A: Yes. V: Taking a guide? A: No. V: Have you been there before? A: Nope. ... read more

Well, today is the day we say goodbye to Annecy for a week while we head to meet our family in Saint-Remy de Provence. Before we leave, we take a short drive from our hotel up the hill to a beautiful small village called St. Martin Bellevue. We hoped to go and see the church, but a wedding was actually getting started, so we just stopped and looked around and took a few pictures from the outside. The views from up there are just fantastic. Before we left town, we stopped at our favorite Hypermarket once again to pick up provisions just in case the shopping selection in Saint-Remy was not up to Carrefour standards. I mean the cheese selection there is incredible. Of course, we also didn't want to arrive in Saint-Remy at cocktail ... read more

We were looking forward to a full day of sightseeing, checking out places we used to go and later on visiting with friends from the days we lived in Annecy. We started off with a typical Petite Dejeuner in the hotel restaurant and then decided to walk down the street to look at the small village of Mercier where we used to live and to see the house we used to live in. To our surprise, the house had been completely re-modeled and another house had been built on what had been a big yard and garden. It was a little sad to see it all changed, but we were not all that surprised since it had been 14 years since we left. Next we headed over to another small village we used to visit ... read more

This is where we spent the first 2 days of our return to France, a wonderful small 2 star hotel with elevator and private bath and balcony. We began a long awaited return to France in Annecy, our favorite French destination. The resort of Annecy, which is the region's capital, makes the best base for touring the Haute-Savoie region. Once a Gallo-Roman town, the seat of the comtes de Genève, Annecy opens onto one of the best views of lakes and mountains in the French Alps. Historically, it enjoyed a brief flurry of importance in the early sixteenth century, when Geneva opted for the Reformation and the fugitive Catholic bishop decamped here with a train of ecclesiastics and a prosperous, cultivated elite. Today, it is a spectacularly beautiful town with a fast moving canals running through ... read more

We decided to take a trip to Switzerland because we wanted to check out the Alps during the winter and maybe do a little bit of skiing. We also found a good deal on a flight to Geneva with Easyjet and it was my birthday weekend, so I figured I could get Lindsay to go anywhere I wanted to. After checking into hotel prices in downtown Geneva, we decided it wasn’t worth selling any of our organs to stay there, and so we stayed in Annecy, France, which was about 45 minutes away by car. We picked up our rental car on the morning of the 17th at the Geneva airport. We got to Annecy later that morning and it turned out to be a really fun little town. It’s located very close to the Alps, ... read more

So, I'm not that good at keeping this updated after all. Here are some pictures from Annecy, a small city at the feet of the Alps, 30 minutes from Geneva. The lake is apparently officially certified as the cleanest in Europe. You can tell, too. Even at a good 15 ft. or so, you can see the bottom. ... read more
