This Sunday, I spent the night in a train station with two gypsy women and their crying babies. Hardly what I imagined for my first night in St Tropez. After six hours, the TGV from Angers arrived in Marseilles on time at 7:15pm Sunday evening. I rushed to catch the connecting train set to depart at 7:59pm for St Raphael. From St Raphael I would take a bus to La Foux where Fred would pick me up and whisk me away to his beautiful house in St Tropez. I would be tucked away, drunk and full of Rose, in a warm bed by 1am, well-rested and ready for a day of boozing on some boat in the tres azur mer of the francais mediterranean cote. System kind of broke down, to say the least. As I ... read more

Up until this point it had been a pretty tame trip to St. Tropez. I had been in bed by 5am or earlier every night, and nothing too ridiculous had happened. For the weekend the bar would be raised. I ignored phone calls from Eric, the Germans and everyone else from Noon to 2pm and fully intended to spend the day in recovery. I went down to the Byblos pool got a Perrier and took a lounge chair. This lasted for probably an hour. I was soon bored of lying on a chair with intermittent trips to the pool to cool off so I called the Germans and they said they were at Nikki Beach. I went to the concierge and he called for the shuttle. On the way there the driver and I had ... read more

Hi. We got here on Sunday after a really poor night with Suze feeling bad but Ben worse (vommiting half the night). A really busy drive down but finally got to a site that fitted our needs about 7 pm. Within 30 mins I (steve) joined the pukey club. Not a good start. Since we have been here we have been to St Tropez. It was lovely but had to sit in traffic for ages until we got bored and walked. It was very busy but worth the hassle. We also went to see the canyon de Verdon which is supposed to be tha second biggest in the world. Again, very busy but spectacular views. Unfortunately just as we were going to kayak into it a lightning storm started so we couldn't go in. typical of ... read more

I got to bed relatively early on night one as the sun had not yes risen. Before heading back to my room night 1, the Germans and I decided we would all meet and go to Voile Rouge at 1:30 or 2PM the next day. I woke up around 1 and found a note from the concierge confirming Voile Rouge for 1:30PM. No one ever shows up anywhere on time in St. Tropez and the service is always slow and half assed (although the Byblos is picking it up), so the time was not a problem. I had gotten a call from the Germans earlier confirming that we were going to Voile Rouge and in typical efficient German fashion they were already in the lobby when I staggered down from my room at the agreed upon ... read more

I haven't had time to update for the last week or so for obvious reasons. I woke up at 8 or 9 in Paris at Hotel Le Bristol. I had packed my bags the night before since I decided not to go out after dinner the previous night. It didn't seem like a good idea to stay out late with an early trip, especially when I wanted to have maximum energy for night one in St. Tropez. Checking in for the flight proved be a huge ordeal and I'm still not sure why Europeans love having nonsensical setups on most forms of travel registration. There was a mass of people funneling into 2 lines, but no one from the airline was there to tell people what line was for which flight, which was to get your ... read more

Do you know the way to Saint-Tropez? Robert and Kathy set out to go to Saint Tropez, the land of yachts and beautiful rich people. The first day, we realized that we had missed the ferry and decided to head back to Cannes, where we had a wonderful time and spend time on the beach. The next day, we set our alarm. At 8:30 a.m., we were at the train station and had purchased our tickets to Dijon and Paris. We were on the train to St. Raphael at 9:30 a.m. Upon our arrival, we had to wait until the 11:30 ferry. Kathy ran inside McD's to get breakfast. Fifteen minutes later, we were running to the ferry and were the last 2 people on - who knew the ferry would leave 20 minutes early? Once ... read more

Sunday afternoon the younger Caroline invited me to her aunt's pool for a swim. Her family lives in several of the houses bordering the house we are currently in and rent them out throughout the year. The pool and accompanying view were gorgeous as you can tell from the pictures. Monday afternoon I spent with Jeanne, one of the girls down at the polo club. (Her name is pronounced kinda like Jen only longer). Jeanne is 19, will be 20 in December and lives in a town outside of Paris with her mother. For two months this summer she is working as a riding instructor for tourists coming to the St. Tropez polo club. She learned how to speak English while in England and thus has a wonderful English accent - very cute. She swears a ... read more

Wednesday we had guests over for dinner - Sebastien and Ludoviv - brothers from the HB polo team. Earlier that day Virginie and I had made lists of everything we would need to purchase at the store in order to make dinner. I was to pick up the tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, cheese and bread and Virginie & Caro would pick up the chicken, chips and dessert. After watching the polo games at the club, everyone rushed home and began preparing for the boys' arrival. It was quite exciting and hectic with everyone rushing around trying to get ready. Virginie and I worked on the apple crumble for dessert while Caroline and Andre (Virginie's father) prepared the tomatoes and cheese for the appetizer. As it turned out, the boys were a bit late because their polo meeting ... read more

Monday night we took Rochelle's car over to the town of Sainte Maxime on the opposite side of St. Tropez. The evening was beautiful and clear and displayed a gorgeous sunset against the water and coastline. Parking was much easier than in St. Tropez and we found a spot without much trouble. After parking, we walked into the town which reminded me a bit of Second Street with the cute shops and restaurants all lit up with twinkling outdoor lights. Caroline picked a little outdoor cafe with a yellow canopy called "Sophie's". Like many of the bordering shops and restaurants, Sophie's had originally been a little house that was converted into an area for dining patrons and cooking meals. Our waitress was cute and friendly as was all the staff. We all ordered from the "menu ... read more

Saturday Night in St. Tropez Saturday night we took Rochelle's car and drove into the port of St. Tropez for dinner. The parking there is so terrible that Rochelle had to parallel park in the tiniest of places which took her nearly 5 minutes but needless to say we were NOT paying for parking and she did a terrific job - I should have filmed her it was so good - although she might have used the bumpers a bit. Two years ago Caroline had visited St. Tropez for work and had gone to dinner at a little bar/cafe in the port area. She was determined that we find this place because the food was supposedly good and prices were decent for a tourist area. So we wandered the streets, passing many cute little restaurants and ... read more
