"Eating is not merely a material pleasure. Eating well gives a spectacular joy to life and contributes immensely to goodwill and happy companionship. It is of great importance to the morale." - Elsa Schiaparelli. That quote may or may not be an excuse. Anyway, to go back a little, have you ever done something but had absolutely no recollection of doing it? Isabel and I made our way to Parking Terreaux in the centre of Lyon just after 8 this morning, had the very pleasant surprise of an incredibly cheap overnight charge for our stay, then promptly lost the parking garage ticket. Twenty minutes and a complete re-pack of the car later, I sheepishly went to explain to the attendant. I was expecting a fairly stern response and some difficulty explaining my predicament, but he was ... read more

Ced's Contribution We awoke to yet another perfect sunny day and the prospect of another big day on the bikes – about 65 km with a big hill to climb. Caro wisely decided to stay on the boat and plan a non-cycling day (see below). We rode to Tarascon then on to St Remy en Provence – both beautiful towns with shopping opportunities that some of the group found impossible to resist. On the ride we managed to lose 3 of our group and this put us back by about an hour. It was a bit shambolic but everyone remained in good spirits and we enjoyed the ride. After lunch at St Remy we headed for Les Baux en Provence, a spectacular town built on a massive limestone rock outcrop. Getting there involved a 4 km ... read more

Day 22 Just broke the 3 week barrier today. And what a great win by Melbourne last night. Messages from lots and emails today after my photo of me in my Melbourne shirt... Oh well, back to mundane things like touring again. Later start today - sleep in then a late breakfast - still available at our B&B so that was nice. The Croatians were a Cardiologist and a Radiologist while one of the Germans was an Anathiesiologist and his wife was a Tax lawyer....... Spoke to Stephanie and John and Jan via Skype as well - Viber has gone west...... Nice to ... read more

Another day, another ruin up a hill - we will be super fit at the end of all this. The weather has been good every day so far and today was properly hot! After a windy (as in winding road not blowing wind) drive through the mountains we arrived in Les Baux de Provence, one of the most beautiful villages in France, according to the signs on the way in. Parking was an issue as it is very popular, given it was actually reasonably quiet we can only imagine the horror of trying to get a spot in August. We walked up to the castle that sits on top of the hill, the village really is pretty, like a Disney interpretation of a medieval village but real! We walked past lots of nice looking shops selling ... read more
