Bon jour! I want to write a bit about my lovely host and hostess, Marleen and Ivo. They are from Belgium and moved to France about 12 years ago. They qre parents to Niels and Helena Hullaert They bought some acreage in the midi-pyrenees region. They started a chocolate shop in Foix, selling Belgium chocolates, which are the finest you can buy. She also sells coffee, hot drinks and ice cream. Right now there is a mother with her 2 little girls in with some friends enjoying a treat. It is a charming shop with a eye catching display of her chocolates. She has a local artist who frequents the shop and has a display. She sold a painting just last week. There is a local association that has an organic garden. There are many families ... read more

Just dowloading pics for now....places to go...Marleen and I went to the supermarche to buy groceries The cheeses are superb and we eat a lot. I will remark on her cooking later. Gourmet. Helena arrived home from school for the holiday last evening and we had a great time. She is as beautiful as Niels is handsome. She is off on her horse today. Ivo came into town and took me on a tour. Just behind the shop is the castle of Foix and many of the oldest houses in town are there bult into the side of the mountain. The houses are really in caves: There is a discoteque there also that is called, "LaCave". It is under the ground. I think I cqn tqlk Marleen into tqking me dancing! We also went to the ... read more

I posted some more pictures on yesterdays blog. Marleen and I are figuring this out. The Cathare drive was beautiful yesterday: So many castles and history: Not many tourists, which made it nice: We enountered a few europeans wherever we went and Ivo always had a nice chat: Me also, as I tried to follow and listen: Ha! I bought grapes and apples. Also Marleen made us great sandwiches with cheese and baguettes: So we picniced in a couple of areas and just enjoyed the scenery: Ivo is a great travel guide: He has a head full of history and also just good stories: I felt the most touched at the old Roman church: So ancient. It was added onto in the 1100 century: The statues and art on the ceiling are not so clear in ... read more

I am having to adjust to a European keyboard, so I am slow and sure to mispell a few letters; This is too funny: I am surprised at my lack of jet lag: We came to the shop for a few hours last evening. It is such a lovely place here: I will try and transfer with the camera with a picture. A customer just left whose wife teaches yoga: Theyre from England and it it was easy to hear my language: The french sound so musical with their speech: Yoga will sound really nice for an afternoon: The villages here are just lovely: All built into the mountains since we are in the Pyrenees: I,m so enchanted with all of it: The house is so beautiful and the mountains surrounding it made me feel like ... read more

A really cool thing happened today. School is going to be out because of a water leak. So I'm free to pack, do all those last minute things and get some rest before I leave. I probably won't write again until I arrive in France. I do want to spend some time getting used to the camera. Thanks Pat. :) There are going to be hundreds of people all over the ranch tommorrow for the rodeo. The place looks beautiful. The Nomads have worked hard on everything. God bless Methodist volunteers. Countdown to departure! Whoo hoo! ... read more

Egg 2. Hi all . We left Toulouse on the 14th September and drove South toward the Pyrenees (pair of knees). The landscape quickly became mountainous once we cleared the outskirts of Toulouse - its was stunningly lush and green and super hilly. Actually at times - were it not for the brilliant sunshine - you might have mistaken the surroundings for Scotland. We had a short lunch stop in Lourdes, just to see what it was like really, as the Senior eggs have been a few times. The upper part of Lourdes seems just like any other southern French town. The area is gorgeous and has a lovely Swiss feel to it. We parked up and strolled down to toward the Grotto. Although I´m not a religous person myself, I found the experience relatively interesting. ... read more

Oeuf no: deux. Bonjour Tour le Monde! ( I think that means '"hello everyone"). I´m adding some more photos of Toulouse - it was really fabby. Sxxx ps: In my defense re the last blog - I would definately have made better cassoulet - the meat vs haricot bean distribution was disproportionate in the one that I had the other night. ie: not enough sausage (thanks Claire! - you´ll know what I mean). ... read more

Oeuf No. 1 Bonjour! As you will no doubt be able to tell, our grasp of the French language has improved dramatically in the days we have been in France (see French paragraphs previous). We spent yesterday driving from Blois to Toulouse after spending about an hour taking our tent down and drying it out over a hedge. There were a few scary moments for Egg No. 2 when insects of various sizes crawled out from under the ground sheet - but fortunately she could only run a few metres before she was out of puff and had to sit down. We had a lovely drive down through the back roads of the French countryside, stopping along the way for breakfast "en plein air" in the 25 degree sunshine. As a bloke I feel that I ... read more

All the stories you've heard about crazy French drivers, high mountain roads with no crash barriers and lanes so narrow you have to breathe in when you pass another car are true. But more about that later ... The main purpose of our trip to the French Pyrenees was to watch a stage of the incredible Tour de France. We left London early on a Friday morning for the long (and rather boring) trip to Stansted airport for our cut-price airline flight, which despite rumours was not bad at all. We arrived in the early afternoon in Pau, a city at the foot of the Pyrenees mountains where on a clear day you get a magnificent view of the surrounding scenery. It was overcast and cloudy and we saw nothing. Despite our beginners French classes our ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 3 France. 21st September 2004 Bordeaux and South along the Atlantic Coast Having said farewell to Sonia in Limoges, we headed through heavy rain west to Bordeaux country and the wine town of St Emilion, a name surely on everybody’s lips at some time in their lives. There were vineyards as far as the eye could see in every direction, purple grapes just about ready for harvesting and every cave in the town seemed to be selling wine and sign after elaborate sign seemed to point to yet another chateaux. St Emilion itself is immaculate and drools with money - a place to admire, a centre of commerce - but not a place to live, Janice would tell you. At last the temperature was dropping, now approaching 18C from a sweltering 37C ... read more
