Hello Reader. After catching a long train to Toulouse, I found an internet cafe and called Benny, my host for the next couple of days. Benny is an Irish fellow who is a couchsurfing ambassador (he is really passionate about traveling and learning). He has lived everywhere and now speaks, with great skill and fluency, Spanish, German, Italian, French, and now Portugese. This impressive and inspirational polyglot is only twenty-three years old. I was worried that, because he has already been the host of countless other travelers, I would be unable to tell Benny anything that he has yet to hear. But he was open and interested to everything. I had definitely made the right choice in coming to visit him in Toulouse. I met Benny at a tourism office in a garden in the middle ... read more

I looked back on my travel blog. It was fun and easy and captured the basics of my trip. Thanks for all the good feedback. I noticed something, so... To all my family, friends, students, and fellow Methodists: The culture in France is very different. They have what they refer to as "Table Wine". This is an inexpensive bottle that is opened and should be finished off with that meal. That is because it's not good to recork it. They serve several courses of food with each meal and refill their glass as they go. Sometimes the apertif is served with a sweeter wine than the main course or the cheese. I learned all of this as I was invited to share a table the French way. Marleen and Ivo are Belgique at heart and don't ... read more

What an amzing city this was. A beautiful spot with buildings from the middle ages. Im having the photos developed right now so I can post them. Also more from castles, Niels school nearby, snow in the Pyrenees, Andorra and a ton of other things. Basically Ive been too busy to post. Its like a mad dash to finish out my 5th (and final) week in France. The week in Cordes Sur Ciel was a week that will go down as one of the best weeks of my life. No competition. It was like something from a well written book. I think I knew that when I felt drawn to go there. In other news, dinner in Chris apartment was an absolute blast! "Allo! Bon!" She is a bundle of energy and an excellent cook. Plus ... read more

We had a great dinner last night with Jean Marie (John-Maree) and Brenda. It was from several regions of France. A really lively pair who took a lot of joy in having us over. A seven course meal is typical here. Aperiff was nuts, some crisp veggie bites and 2 kinds of wine. Then a tomato salad followed by quiche and wonderful beef Burgandy. Topped off as always with cheese and a different wine. Then we had desert, an apple tartin and also cheesecake served with an apple cider wine. Toward the end of the evening, (it is after midnight now) we had hot tea. Great conversation throughout and lots of fun tales from a couple who met in the peace corps in Africa. She was born in San Francisco, but is truly French now. About ... read more

This is an awesome old town with a huge castle!! I was totally blown away by the size of it! We wandered around and ate and shopped some. Lots of midievel sp? stuff. Found a print that I loved and also a statue. People live inside the castle walls. Lots of artist communities here. Mark, I kept saying that I wish you were here. I want to bring you someday. Mrs. Herring will love this also.... read more

We cannot decide how to spell this town. It's a really cool village where some American University students have been staying. We went over to hear them speak. Its a strange place. Youll see the photos are absolutely beautiful. We passed a lot of people sitting around smoking pot right on the square! I've seen this several times here in France. I have decided I cant write about everything!!... read more

I am getting so relaxed that I find it hard to get abitious about blogging. Up the mountain again today to pick more lavender. My camera battery is dead and the photo shop next door is charging them. We will probably picnic and hike the mountain tommorrow. There is a holiday for All Saints Eve and some tourists are here in town. not like summer tho. We went up the Prat d' Albis Mountain where you can see all the villages and castles for about 50 miles. Me with no camera. I just lay down and let the wind sing to me. I am trying to talk to Helena about sleeping outside with me. I dont think that French princesses sleep outside...... No bugs here!!!! Met some more friends of Ivo and Marleen.
