So today I ventured off to the town of Nimes which is about 20 minute train ride or so from Montpellier. We got there around Noon and spent the afternoon walking around. Nimes is ancient town and has many roman ruins. Near the train station there is a big arena that looks to me like the colleseum and its where they had bull fights etc. It was really cool and I took many photos. We also around the Jardin de la Fontaine and walked to the top. It was a very nice day. I went with Amy, Joy, and Erik. It was a fun day and I'll post more photos when I can! TOnights dinner was "MacPam" ...like "McDonalds" but my host mom added her name! lol. It was very good. Oh and last night I ... read more

So I discovered yesterday that here in France "Where's Waldo" is "Ou est Charlie" (Where's Charlie) en francais. I bought one of the books because I thought that was awesome that he's in France and it's a different book than the ones I have. Voila... ... read more

So sorry about my entry from yesterday. I started writing it before we had to meet up for our guided tour of Montpellier and ran out of time. Voila, the tour of Montpellier was nice although very very cold. It's amazing how cold it is here. Although today is pretty nice so far so let's hope that continues. I didn't understand everything the tour guide was saying since it was in French but I understood the majority. I took a lot of pictures and once I figure out how to post pictures on this thing I will put some pictures of Montpellier in here. Last night everyone was home again for dinner so it was a big crowd. Dinner was very good and Ive come to the conclusion that I'll probably think every meal I at ... read more

So yesterday was another fun day. Joy and I walked aournd the city of Montpellier trying to find our way around. We had to meet at IML with Alexendre to watch a movie about the serivice-learning part of the program and then I was able to choose where I wanted to be working. For the next 3 months Ill be tutoring students between the ages of 10 and 17 years old English and I will also be going to the Institut Saint Pierre, which is a school/ hospital for handicapped children and teaching them English and other stuff I believe. I begin that next week and then my studies also start the following week. Dinner last night was fun too. We had to speak English again because Ricardo is here and so its kind of cheating ... read more

Hello everyone! It is my first official day here in Montpellier: Arriving here went well, it was a long train ride but the scenery was pretty. Madame Goodman met me at the platform. She is very nice and everyone I live with is very nice. There is Madame Goodman; and then 3 other students who are living there also. One is another American who is studyig at the univeristy and she is from North Carolinna. The two others are French; one is 20 and the other is 16. At the house we speak only French; which is great for me. They are all nice and helping me fit in. There are 3 other students who have arrived in Montpellier at the same time as me and they are who I will be studying with etc: They ... read more

Check out our blog from yesterday. We posted some pictures. We will try to fulfill some requests and get pictures of the new friends that we meet. I did meet a new friend at our fabulous restaurant, Le Lodge, last night. I didnt catch his name but he was eyeing my food last all night. Pictures are always an after thought and we will regret not taking more. After dinner we met another four legged friend at the Irish Pub, McMahons, but he wouldnt stay still long enough to get his picture. This dog was really sweet and apparently you can take your dog anywhere including restaurants. We are just wasting some time in Montpellier until our next train leaves. It is very warm here and we enjoyed a nice lunch outside. No rain here :) ... read more

Having returned from a long (in kilometres) but short (in time) trip from southern France to Mauritania I thought I'd better sit down and describe it! I am a 'regular' on the Thorn Tree, Lonely Planet's forum (apologies to travelblog!!) and needed 'somewhere' to escape to after a long year of work. Somewhere cheap & warmer than southern France is at Christmas!!! I started making arrangements for another independant jaunt then decided, for a change seeing as it was over Christmas, to see if 'someone' out there wanted to join me on my trip south. Lo & behold I found a poster on the Thorn Tree who might be interested, and sent this: Saw your TT posting - Lonely Planet forum. I'm in France, I live near Carcassonne and am getting the bus from here to ... read more

Hello Reader. After the terror of losing a thousand songs from my Rio, Eric was nice enough to put some of the songs he had onto my player. Eighty-five. Over the next few days I listened to the music, and some of it was really, really good. I even liked a few of the metal songs he put on, (I am ususlly not a big fan of metal). Anyways, this gave me a great idea to just upload music from the people I meet and/or stay with, that way I can take a little bit of everyone with me. And by the end of my trip I will have an entire collection of songs from all over Europe. How's that for a souvenir? Lyon will be remembered as a great city. I enjoyed all the sights ... read more

So, here's a brief update. I did a bit of traveling the past two weekends, to Toulouse/Albi with a friend, and then a solo trip to Collioure/Perpignan. Now it's crunch time for exams, so I won't be venturing far from home until the holidays. I dream of skiing... Anywho, enjoy the pics, and I should write a real update soon, with more details!... read more
