Ouf! After Friday night's disco, to celebrate the end of a beautiful week of kite, it was again hard to get up; fit everything into my bag (it always fits very well at home before you leave, but it seems like clothes have a way of swelling once they cross the boarder haha), clean out the appartment and go to UCPA to eat and have one last goodbye. Me, Penrille (who came down and joined me Thursday) and Perrine went with Remi (handsome Lyonnais from kite) and his cousin Carro to the beach to hang for a couple of hours before going with Carro to Montpellier where she dropped us. We had the time to drink a rosé and have a crèpe à la crème de marron before Ju & Andreea showed up. Nice reunion, probably ... read more

Bonjour! I arrived in Montpellier about 1:03pm today. Lugging my luggage down the stairs and then back up did a number on my thumb nail (I banged it into the back of my luggage as I was trying to prevent myself from toppling over and down the stairs). But I made it and found my way to the Taxi Stand with Katie and then we met up with some others in our group who were waiting for taxis. The Citadines Antigone is quite a step up from Hotel Lecourbe in Paris. We have a kitchen and 2 English-speaking channels!!! Also, a major plus is the free wireless internet. (By the way, The Simpsons in French is quite fabulous - I could basically tell what was going on so I was happy.) Also, there is a ... read more

Le kite, ca kiffe grave!!! Apres ma deuxieme journee de stage kite.... Oups.... I am so into French right now that I already started thinking and dreaming in French again (like if I ever stopped...). I wanted to say that the kite surfing poison is in my veines; as one of my very close friends would say.... hehe.... I already love it (too bad I have such white skin) and I know that I will definitely continue. Such an excellent complement to parachuting - when the wind is too strong to skydive, I just take my kite and go to the ocean. During our second day we all (we being a group of six with the instructor Julien) tried to use the board. Haha, what a joke. It was reallky hard, but a lot of fun ... read more

Day 5 (6/25) See photos from our adventures url="http://picasaweb.google.com/kosmatka/AdiosSpainBonjourMontpellier?authkey=CU38YC5Ltfw" target="_blank"here And…our traveling luck continues. First we got ripped off by our cab driver on the way to the train station. Then, after traveling 4 hours on the train, we got to our midway stop over and were told that the train to Nice was sold out. We couldn’t get on another train until tomorrow. We had to laugh. That is so our luck. So, like everything else, we decided to make the best out of a bad situation. We went to the first hotel that we saw (directly across from the train station) and got a room for the evening. After napping (a vacationing must) we decided to go for a walk and see just where we had ended up. As it turns out, the ... read more

Laures and Yves have finally said YES to eachother. Their wedding was fantastic!!! It all started with le and LN sleeping late, starting to get ready late and arriving late - just like girls :o) The marriage in France starts in the town hall, where the major officially marry you and you also sign the papers. We arrived to Balaruc, a very charming little town between Montpellier and Sète just in time to see the last (and most important) part of the act. From there we all walked over to the church where we had the chance to "faire la bise", the French way of greeting eachother and kissing in the air on each side of the cheek, to the very very beautiful bride and the bridesmaid and their parents. The ceremony itself lasted about 50 ... read more

Hello hello, ?ontpellier! 5and the French keyboqrd::: hehehe9 After three years I am finally back to spend four lovely weeks in my long lost paradise of France. I worked like someone who hasn't got a life for the last two weeks (yesterday evening I even shared a pizza at work with my colleague Kent because we were there for so long...) to be able to come here and relax.... I can't explain to you how great it feels to be back, almost like I have refound a part of my body ;o) Ah!!! The first thing that struck me was the French logic. Haha... Contrary to what you might think, the Frenchies do have a logic when they plan and do things (si, si, it is true), it is just that their logic does not follow ... read more

Frpm Versailles to Serignon Plage We have moved on from Versailles where we had a fortunate wifi link in the camping space. Excellent but not to be repeated yet. We have wifi here but we have to go to restaurant or near to get it. Not far from Paris, so they say, is Heliomonde campsite/home to loads of Parisiennes where we stopped in some great sunshine. We went into the pool. Michael hurt his back diving into it. Won't do that again. But it was a lovely site with lots of trees and very peaceful apart from being on the flight path for Orly Airport. We managed a tandem ride around the local villages and towns. But then this great storm threatened and then blew our awning almost off the van. It was a tremendous ... read more

Europe » France » Languedoc-Roussillon » Carcassonne May 22nd 2007

The title for this one really should have been Going, Going, Gone; but I have already used that one. Anyway you will see why later on in the blog.... After Barcelona, it was another early train ride and I made it with 7 minutes to spare (for someone on holiday, I seem to be giving myself alot of those early starts. I really am a glutton for punishment), then it was a relaxing ride to Carcassone via Narbonne. I just escaped Barcelona in time as it looked like a thunderstorm was coming into town, and arrived in France to perfect sunshine. So I got off the train with no idea where I was going, or where I was staying that night, and I couldn't help grinning! This is what backpacking is all about. In the ... read more

CARCASONNE to AVIGNON 17th May 2007 (Thursday Overcast and Windy 17º - 22º and Sunny Breaks Avignon). We depart Carcassonne as we found her - grey and windy. We elect to take a quiet provincial road through Sete and are amazed at the hundreds of Camper Vans that are parked on the side of the roadway. Even though the weather is not playing its part it does not deter these holidaymakers - they are impervious to the weather. They are, I assume, either Brits or Germans and as they sip wine out of plastic glasses and try to look relaxed in their new deck chairs the weak sunshine is obliterated by another cloudbank. Further on we stop in Beziers to stretch our legs before the run into Avignon. Beziers is a pretty little place and the ... read more
