Well it was an early morning start for myself, Liani and Heath. Up at 4.15am in search of a tube ride out to Heathrow Airport. After wandering through the tube station, watching a very drunk guy try to surf one of the signs and not crack his head, Heath checked the timetable and realised we were not going to catch our flight if we waited for the first train of the morning! So off we ran to try get a cab into paddington station where we could get the Heathrow express. We managed to grab a mini cab and the guy offered to take us all the way to the airport. This dude had been on all night and was wired - he did not shut up to draw breath! Heath and I chilled out in ... read more

After being in England for a couple of months we decided to take advantage of the cheap travel deals and booked our first mini break. We left Waterloo on the Eurostar at 7 am on Saturday morning and found ourselves in the centre of Paris only 3 hours later. Magnifique! Heres our take on the major sights in Paris: Arc de Triumphe - the crazy roundabout where the land of insurance companies is left behind for 'French combat driving'. Sure theres a big statue in the middle, but standing watching the cars hoping for a bingle is the real draw card. You have to go to the Louvre, and for good reason - it blows your mind. Enough said. We attempted to see the Notre Dame cathedral, but it requires hours of lining up so we ... read more

Voyage, voyage... Plus loin que la nuit et le jour.... further than the night and the day... voyage voyage... In fact I was supposed to sleep now as the bus is going to leave at 2 a.m. at night but after trying and getting up, trying to sleep and getting up again etc I thought I'll make a short posting on here. From now on I will write journal on here for every trip I'll take in the future. I'm still kind of broke after the middle east trip but now this is a great chance to see Paris. We are going with a big group of JWs on a bus and the whole thing costs only 99 euros incl hotel, transport to and from Paris and a city tour. Ive been to Paris once a ... read more

Alrighty, I have spent the last week a bit melancholic and not quite living up to my seize the moment philosophy and suddenly realized it was time to delete Edith Piaf from my iPod and temporarily hide some Billie Holiday songs in my iTunes. This grand gesture of cutting the dangerously sad music out of my repertoire seems to have done something so I look forward to another day with adventure ahead of me. I know I left you all hanging on my issue with needing a Sorbonne course for far too long, never fear the resolution is here! I had only two options it seemed for my course at the Sorbonne so off I went last Thursday night bracing myself for 5 hours of French university courses…..yikes. Course number one was the Poetry of Comedy. ... read more

So saturday I did another little self-guided walking tour around Paris and here are some of the many things I saw: -The fountain by the Pompidou Center (which I remembered from that one afternoon in Paris with family) I see the site pretty regularly as the Pompidou Center is pretty central. It's very Parisian having this totally modern, crazy colorful fountain right next to this old stain-glass church -The oldest tower in Paris, dating back to the medieval period where Paris only existed on the two islands in the middle of the Seine. It's tiny, but you can probably figure out which one it is (with the brown cross bars it's unmistakably medieval). Behind is Notre Dame, but there's something about that little old tower that really draws me in. -a barge passing along the Seine. ... read more

A day of wondering and relaxing... Morning - Cemetaries! Today was a good day. We slept in until around 9am, skipped breakfast thinking we would find a crepe stand or a little cafe to eat at, I love baguettes but everyday for almost a week is too much! We hoped on the metro and headed over to the other side of town to visit Pere Fraichaise cemetary, it is the famous cemetary where Jim Morrison is buried. Not that we really cared all that much that he was there, it was more that it is one of the oldest and most beautiful cemetaries in Paris. The old crypts and monuments were fantastic! I've never seen anything like it before. There was a really cool one with a guy crawling out of a sarcophegus. I'll eventually get ... read more

A little late in the posting, but on Wednesday the 19th I headed to Paris. I met Christine, a friend from her program, and a friend from Bowdoin who was spending the semester in Paris. There were also two friends of a friend to make a group of five people which was together at different times throughout my time there. Basically Paris is amazing! A beautiful city. I did just about all of the touristy sites and had lots of crepes. The first site we went to was Musee d'Orsay. With all my travels I can actually say that I've been to a lot of museums, but none of them had the feel to them this one did. The atmosphere was wonderful. The museum is housed in a one time rail station and has a truly ... read more

Hello folks, welcome to our final blog entry before returning to blighty! We're currently enjoying our third day in Paris and have been really quite busy. Strolled around the Champs Eleise complete with Rammstein fans, scary; and a Renault showroom with Fernando Alonso's car in. Very exclusivo street. The Arc d'Triumphe was bigger than we'd expected as Dan found out to his cost. On the first day he decided to amble up to the Arc, our meeting place for the day seen as though we're in different hostels. Having been told by an Aussie it was a gentle stroll, he turned up 20 mins late after a 2 hour hike - during which he could see the Arc for half that! Saw a ridiculously tourist orientated Notre Dam Cathedral and Sam and Dan, the Da Vinci ... read more

aka willy wonka's international wonderland for adults. Chocolatiers from all around Paris and the world come to show their products, sell them, and most importantly give you free samples!! it was amazing. Not just chocolate to taste in every form (bars, chips, ice cream, hot, liqueur, tea, crepes, coating things, coated in things, with pistachio, coffee, olive oil, hot peppers) but also chocolate sculptures of everything from old skate shoes to mermaids leaping from fantastical surroundings, chocolate games, chocolate facials, chocolate massages, chocolate lotion, and chocolate clothing for the fashion show going on in the middle of it all. I sampled just about everything I could get my hands on until i'd had so much chocolate I couldn't even think about buying any to bring home because I would've been sick.
