With its breezy boulevards, excellent cafés, historic museums and avant-guard fashions, Paris is the essence of all things French. This city of 2.15 million people is the premier destination for Canadian tourists traveling to Europe. I arrived at the Gare de l'Est Station in Paris early one morning with the hope of spending as much time as possible in the legendary City of Light. From its many historic building to its haute coffee shops, Paris exudes a feeling of romance and infects its visitors with a desire to love and be loved. I stayed at Paris Friends Hostel and discovered that it was the best place I have ever stayed at to make new friends. One of the drawbacks to staying at this particular hostel is that it is located in the worst neighborhood in Paris. ... read more

I thought it would be a good idea to post some of the photos from Paris in May this year. I went with Renae and her mum on the Eurostar and we stayed in this cool little hotel behind the Sacre Couer. The weather was great, and we had the best time wandering around the city streets and heading out to Euro Disney for a day full of thrilling rides and screaming kids :) All in all, my memories from Paris have been some of my favourite and I can't wait to head back there ASAP... read more

Here's a long update that covers a bout a week, Get comfortable and enjoy! I need to catch you all up on a few days. I think I last entered comments having just arrived in Gryon. I checked in for 1 night and w/in 5 minutes had extended it to 2. The girl working there had just finished her undergrad pre-med and was enrolled in med school. She had been there 3 months and was working on defering her enrollment for the next year to stay there. Bert runs the place, there are a group of flight attendents staying there, a bohemian type guy named bo, who had just finished highschool, but seemed much older. He and I went hiking and had a great time. There were also a pair of girls from Ireland, a guy ... read more

After arrived in Paris main train station from Brussels and then the d’Artagnan Hostel (luckily, we still got our reservations at the fully booked hostel), we took off around 8:30 pm for dinner around the Champs-Elysées, where the Eiffel Tower is. To get there, we need to transfer the Metro twice, and it took us more than an hour just to get to the area. Our hostel is located in the East Paris, and the Eiffel tower is, of course, on the west side of Paris. We were hoping to find an inexpensive restaurant around the area at this hour. First incident in Paris with a Chinese restaurant We arrived at Eiffel Tower base around ten, just enough to see the ten o’clock show with flashing lights for about ten minutes. After the show, we ended ... read more

Today Ghislain took it easy and spent the morning at home, Tania was getting here from Amsterdam, so I went out to visit my 1st cousin once removed, Ruth, in St-Germain-en-Laye. I got there no problem thanks to really good directions and a short French lesson from Ghislain. (Un billete pour St Geremain en Laye si vous plait. merci) It was really cool to spend time with Ruth, she is really interesting, and we had great conversations about family, and even politics, especially concerning how the French view Americans. We ate a delicious and relaxing lunch before I headed back to Paris. Ghislain and I went all the way to the top of the Eiffel tower and spent lots of time taking photos! (between the two of us we took over 200 photos qt the Eiffel ... read more
