I got off the train at Gare du Nord, in Paris, after my spur of the moment decision the night before and had absolutely no idea where I was, or how to get anywhere. The obvious decision would have been to have taken the metro as I was in a train station but I wanted to go outside and see what it was like. There was a streetmap on the bus stop outside so I studied that for a while and sort of worked out which way Sacre Couer was but I was still endeavouring not to look like a tourist so didn't want to stay staring at the map too long. Looking back now it was pretty obvious that I am not in fact Parisian, but anyway. I did eventually find Sacre Couer and saw ... read more

Visited the city of Paris and am/ was very impressed by the French ability to build new and exciting structures side by side with many ancient and impressive structures which contain beautiful paints and works of art. The Lourve is a whole days worth of site seeing all on its own and the river seine is majestic and beautiful and so worth seeing for yourself - go when you can.... read more

Well I don’t know where to start. Today’s actual date is the first of March. Yikes! That means I have 6 months worth of activity to sum up, for posterities sake. Okay. Well, over the last 6 months, I have sent out a few e-mails, so some of this will be old news to you all, but bear with me. So, I guess I will start in the beginning. After months of preparation, we arrived in Paris on the 23 of August. We each had two large pieces of luggage and a carry on in addition to our laptops. Of course we decided not to get a shuttle. Our flight was coming in pretty late, and that made it difficult to find a shuttle service that was willing to pick us up (a slight lack of ... read more

Enfin, after more than 24 hours of travel, we arrived in Paris on July 18th. I am sure that you are familiar with the city, either through your own travels or pictures, so we will spare you of a lengthy description. Needless to say, Paris is a beautiful city and wonderful place to start a honeymoon. After checking into to our hotel (compliments of Shaun and Claire), we headed out to check out the sights. We started with the neighbourhood, a chic area filled with sidewalk cafes and pubs, then took a subway to the Champs Elysee for the evening. We spent our first two days attempting to coordinate our African visas and our travels to Spain with frequent stops at local cafes. With our travel funds quickly dwindling, we attempted to head for Spain on ... read more

An early start today, as we were in Paris for the whole day, and we could do what we wanted. We were dropped off at the Eiffel Tower (Tour Eiffel). The Eiffel Tower stands 324 metres high, and was designed by Gustave Eiffel, in 1889. It was the world's tallest building until 1931. I wanted to climb this at first, though slowly changed my mind thinking that if I climbed the 360 steps to the first level, then another 359 steps to the second level, then perhaps I wouldn't feel like doing much else that day, so decided the lifts would be better. I was with Kylie and Jo, who was keeping an eye out for her friend Josh, who she said she tries to keep in touch with throughout her time in Europe. She was ... read more

We departed from London at 6:15am, and make the long journey to Dover, finally arriving there at 10am. The ferry crossing took around two hours. I was sitting next to a guy called Stu, who was from Dunedin. He was here with two of his workmates, Nicola and Suzanne. We had quite an in-depth chat about things, holidays, work, home-life, and that. He was real cool guy. Also, once arrived in France, us guys on the outer seats had to move forward to the seat in front of us, and introduce ourselves to whoever was sitting there. I guess it was a good way to start the introductions, though did get a bit repitive, as I just kept saying the same old stuff. We had two stops in France, before arriving at Paris mid afternoon. Our ... read more
