Hey! Well, it's been awhile since I last updated, and another couple of weeks have blurred by. Snow hit the city hard last weekend, and even though the skies are blue now, the temprature is -2 to -6 degrees C. Power went out at the school on monday, so students were locked out for the rest of the week while they fixed electricity stuff. For me this ment a very long week of wandering, museums, doodling, and avoiding being outside in the frozen city as much as possibile. Highlights were the Rodin sculpture museum, the Marais and Bastielle areas at night, and a swingin underground jazz club with new american friends Today we've been let back into the building, so I'm trying to get as much animation done today before catching a flight to Ireland tomorrow! ... read more

Left Paris on or about this day for Brugge via Lille. This blog will contain a few of my favorite photos/sites. Next blog will be from Madrid, Spain. Now that I have to rest my legs in the evening after training I may get a few more of these blogs posted. Viva La France! Will return again.... read more

I was in and around Paris for just over two weeks. I don’t have the luxury of referring to my travel diary so rather than doing a day by day recap I’ll build my blogs up around sites visited. I was in the city long enough that I became very familiar with the subway system and the location of the central neighborhoods. While in Paris I saw a performance at the Grand Opera House, walked around the city in snow, toured a half dozen gothic chapels/cathedrals, and the typical tourist stops (museums, tours, etc…). I ended up at the Eiffel tower on nearly a daily basis (typically at night). I look forward to returning to Paris. I hope that it’s sooner rather than later. What is your favorite Parisian experience? I'll leave my writing to this ... read more

Grand Opera Feb 24, 2005 To see a performance at the Paris Opera House should be high on anyone’s list of must sees when in Paris. This is one of the few events that I remember the actual date that I was there (birthday). All other dates for attractions and towns are close approximates (typically within two or three days) no further than a week off at the very worst. All I can say is wow, stunning, incredible. While the seat was nothing to write home about the whole cultural experience was one that I’ll never forget. I hope to return to the opera house again in the future. My suggestion to you is prebook tickets if you really want to go. You won’t regret it even if the performance is a yawn. Oh yes, this ... read more

Villa Savoye By Le Corbusier, 1929 Typical tourists are lucky just to see the most recognizable sites in a major city. I’m never just satisfied with the easy and convenient sites. I’m known for going to out of the way places by difficult and inconvenient means just to satisfy a hankering. I’m a sucker for architecture the good, bad and the plain ugly. If I’ve read an article on a place, seen a photo of a structure, or been told that I must/mustn’t see an architect’s work I’ll be very tempted to cross sea and climb mountains to reach it just to say I’ve been there. Today I visited one of the most recognizable works of the International Style, Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye. This little voyage was probably the second most difficult trek I’ve made to ... read more

All I can say is that the day I toured Versailles it was fridged with snow flurries. The gardens went on for miles and miles and despite all the walking I did I was still so so so cold. The cost to build this palace x10 is unimaginable. You’d need to visit to appreciate the size and opulence. My photos do not scratch the surface. If I was to say anything further, no matter how eloquent and elaborate it would still be an understatement and would not do the place justice. Use your imagination! ... read more

We woke up at 7:00 to another chilly day in Paris. We stopped at our boulangerie for another chausson des pommes and chocolat chaude. With full stomachs we were off to the metro station to buy our "Carte Orange" to give us unlimited subway use for the rest of our trip (this is definitely the way to get around and cheaper than the tourist metro passes). We had a bit of a time with the picture machine but finally got the right size pic and then picked up our passes. First stop today...the Louvre. Well I have to say I am not much of an "artsy" person...or at least I wasn't. My main intention was to see the Mona Lisa (to say I've seen it) but once I got there I was hooked. It begins outside ... read more

Another great iconic Parisian landmark, thanks Napoleon. Paris seemed to spiral out from this point (especially noticeable when at the top). I found myself here on a daily basis. The Champs-Elysees was the harmonious shopping street that is the place to be seen and to see. Definitely a must visit. Looking at these photos is great for me it’s like I’m reliving the memories all over again. ... read more
