A quiet Sunday, and thought I would just lay in, and take my time to do whatever I wanted. I decided to find a Pub, and a british pub where I could watch Liverpool v Manchester United. I found the Sherlock Holmes pub, lol...but a pint of beer, nice comfy atmposphere and the game on sky tv, I was set for the afternoon. sounds silly, but needed a quiet Sunday before heading to Paris. Liverpool lost 3-0 played terrible, but watching Rooney was good to see ;) then back to pack my bag and sort things out before tomorrow.. Looking forward to it for sure ;)... read more

The sunrise was beautiful from the Nice airport, and a great start to the day. A flight via Paris and onto Bordeaux. I had a little rest before heading out and exploring the streets. My hotel was only 2 bus stops from the main city square, and only a five minute walk. How great this was. I walked and took in the amazing buildings and culture. It was really different to what I experienced in Nice. The streets wider, and more modern in comparison. I found a Christmas market which I wandered through, of course getting some macaroons to eat. They were so nice. Then making my way around the streets further I headed into an older area with smaller streets. I came across a British Pub but this did not take my fancy, but across ... read more

It is amazing to me how fortunate I have been in my life. Living in Europe has been an extraordinary opportunity, for so many reasons, and the one I am most grateful for of late, is the chance to visit Plum Village. Swedes break the year down by weeks, something I am only slightly more used to this year than last. Week 8 and Week 44 stick in my head though, because they are the February and October vacations. School has been a bit stressful, as I know many jobs are, and so I spent a good deal of the fall dreaming up where I might spend Week 44. Over a year ago, a friend has mentioned Plum Village to me, and I had since been trying to find a time when I could go. Without ... read more

Bordeaux France 4 to 6 October 2014 We arrived at our hotel in time to unload our bags and for Tom to take the car back. After we got settled in, Tom went into the city by himself (I was a bit off colour which he also caught that night!). Our hotel was interesting. It was an old warehouse that had been converted to accommodation. It was quite new so pretty good with a kitchenette as well as being close to the train/tram although sometimes noisy. The next day we caught the train into the CBD which took about 10 minutes - very efficient, even on Sundays. We noticed straight away that there were parks and open spaces and beautiful architecture of the buildings. In Quinconces Square where we got off the train, is the beautiful, ... read more

Listen very carefully, I will say this only once... Saturday, 5 July, 2012 - en route to Bordeaux. I will warn you right now that the next week was filled with unpleasantries regarding travel and accommodation, and if you are squeamish at all about whines and rants, perhaps now is the time to turn away on this blog… After our experience of getting to our first hotel on arrival in Paris, we decided to take the Metro to the station. Getting the suitcases on the train was a bit of a struggle but we thought all would be good in Bordeaux. Not to worry…I then looked at my car rental agreement which said (as I had told them) that I would be picking my car up at 5:15 PM, and the office closed at 6. I ... read more

The drive from Andorra down to Toulouse was nothing short of breathtaking. The Pyrenees are spectacular enough as they are, but driving down through mountain passes made it even more so. The views seemed rather disappointing when we left the high peaks behind us and reached the mere foot hills. Between Toulouse and Bordeaux it was flat and boring. Not even the vineyards could compensate for the lack of mountains! Once we reached the outskirts of Bordeaux we found our hotel quite easily. The F1 Hotel chain is a budget range but they are cheap and cheerful and we don't mind sharing self cleaning bathroom facilities. There are several F1s around the city and we stayed in Bordeaux Ville . This didn't turn out to be the best choice for purely logistical reasons. To get into ... read more

This is our final day of the cruise and we have a very exciting day planned. We took the optional tour today to attend a cooking lesson with a Michelin 3 star chef of the Bordeaux Grand Hotel. Only 12 participants. We took the city tram to the hotel in the city center with Katell the cruise director. The Grand hotel is the finest in the city. We were taken to the kitchen of the Michelin restaurant. We were greeted by the head chef, sous chef and pastry chef. We were each given chef aprons to wear with the hotel name and logo! How fun. They explained what we would be cooking and dining during our 4 hour lesson. To start we each peeled and broke a large white asparagus in preparation for the soup we ... read more

We arose at home at 4:15am so we would be ready for the pick up by Anthony's limo @ 5am for our ride to DIA so we will catch our 7;26am flight to JFK airport as the 1st leg on our journey. Our driver was prompt as usual and got us to DIA in good time. We went to the Delta counter and checked our 2 bags all the way to Bordeaux. Jim bought us 1st / business class flights for this trip. My bag weighed 35 lbs. and Jim's was at 40 lbs. We both really cut down on what we brought and tried to travel lighter. So far, we did good. The flight Denver to New York was uneventful. For some reason delta chose me as TSA pre check. We were in seats 1A ... read more

The last weekend before leaving Rochefort I used for visiting Bordeaux. It was good timing because it was also a long weekend (don’t know why though). Bordeaux, the world's major wine capital is one of France's oldest and largest cities (its history can be traced as far back as 300BC). It's a port city on the Garonne river. Anik (my host in Rochefort) put me in touch with a friend of hers (Sabine) that was driving to Bordeaux on Saturday, so I didn't even have to buy the train ticket to get there. As far as places to stay go, during the week I wrote to about 5 people in Bordeaux to see if they could host me through Couchsurfing. I usually never write more than 5 requests and always do it one at a time ... read more
