So, when we got to Legoland it was hot and sunny. When we went to sleep it was hot and sunny. Overnight it was not hot or sunny. In fact I, think it's safe to say it rained. We woke to raindrops on the roof, made a plan of action, it rained more, we changed our plan of action, put on raincoats, checked out of the campsite (amazingly lovely staff yet again) got wet and went to the park itself.a minor 'mistake' no my part meant a bit of cotton clenching as we turned Jason round in a very tight spot but all was well and we headed in where, everything really IS awesome. It rained still. Lots. We got wet. Lots. But who cares when you're surrounded by yellow ponchos and Lego? The minifigure store ... read more

Aarhus, in the middle of well......our time in Denmark. So The journey this year has begun (I'll get back to last years journey when I get back) We left nottinghamshire just before 12, unusually before expected, even more surprising given that about two hours prior to this, Ash took Jason for his new shoe and a bit of a check then on the way back, rang me with the opening line' are you still at home, theres a bit of a problem, not a big one but needs sorting like now' turns out the garage had noticed a new creeping crack on the windscreen which was getting bigger as the van drove. Great. Two hours before we had to leave and this happens. The insurance company were very helpful despite not being able to fix it ... read more

Geo: 56.1464, 10.2032In Aarhus they have spent about 90 years collecting buildings from various areas of Denmark and reconstructing them on this site in a manner dieting a village (DenGamleBy). There are about 75 buildings dating back as far as the 1500's. Many represented the various trades as well as the wealthier land- holders at the time. We then walked into the central city area and shopping district. Our apartment in quite central so we have managed to leave the car parked today. We ate dinner at the apartment. The local grocery had a deli area and we have kitchen facilities in the apartment. Eating out here tends to be expensive and beer seems to be a staple. Prices on beer and wine are very reasonable in the groceries as is most of the food. Restaurants are ... read more

Geo: 56.1464, 10.2031On the road first thing to get to Legoland. The parking lot was probably about a kilometre from the entrance and there were a lot of people - an understatement. The formal Lego village was great! Amazing buildings and lots of moving trains, cars, boats, etc. Legoland also has an amusement park with lots of rides - very much like a small Disneyland - very busy!Next stop was our apartment rental in Aarhus. It is a very pleasant apartment - unfortunately on the fourth floor! It is close to downtown and the owner arranged for a parking permit because the parking is restricted. The owner is an architect who has also been involved in the design of one of the Lego series. We walked a bit in the neighbourhood including down to the beach ... read more

Back to Denmark after Iceland and the Faroe Islands - 14 July After a very calm journey back from the Faroe Islands, we hit Hirtshals 45 minutes late as we had to wait for another car ferry to finish unloading and loading as they had our position in the harbour. We drove off and headed down along the eastern coast of Denmark's Jutland Island to Horsens. This is another town where some friends of Tea's lived but we could not contact them. We were not stopping over night as we wanted to get to Odense on the island of Funen. Horsens city population is about 56,000 and it was a lovely city to walk and drive around. Horsens lies at the end of Horsens Fjord in eastern Jutland. The city is surrounded by typical moraine (left ... read more

Viborg, Dollerup Bakker & Arhus, then Hobro 26 June We woke up to yet another beautiful day in Denmark. The sky was brilliant blue and the temperature was not hot. We have started to notice the days are a little shorter as we have moved south. The sun is now setting at 10.45pm. Viborg's history is centred in being a religious centre because in 1060 it became Denmark's 8th Bishoprics and grew into a major religious centre. Prior to the Reformation (when the country converted from Catholicism to Lutheranism), Viborg had 25 churches and abbeys. It's now a town that is focused on primary production, tourism and therefore has restored its cobbled-stoned old town and the buildings that now remain. Today, we saw the Viborg Domkirke which is Scandinavia's largest granite church. The 1st church on ... read more
