This weekend we had a lot of free time, which was a nice break from our busy schedule. We started off Saturday morning with our last game against a Danish team and went to watch the boys play afterwards. We spent most of the afternoon in a Hummel store in downtown Arhus where many of us bought handball gear. We then all went for ice cream before heading back to the academy for swimming. After dinner we wandered downtown again where there was a music festival going on, but this time with the boys' team and also the ATHF players that are living in Denmark. Denmark blog #1 The morning of Tuesday, August 13th, the teams arrived at the airport to commence their long journey to Denmark. After 16 hours of airports and airplane rides, the teams finally arrived in Copenhagen. We then boarded a bus to Aarhus, where many games of cards were played and many naps were taken. 10 minutes away from the handball academy one of the bus' tires popped, and we were shortly transferred to a new bus. When we arrived everyone at the academy welcomed us; we were very excited to start our handball academy experience. For supper we enjoyed a delicious chicken dinner prepared by the gourmet chefs here at the academy. That night the girls teams had the opportunity to practice with German coach Jan Lucas. 29.6.2013 Århus Finally we have gotten to this point; we are actually on our big trip, going to travel around the world during the next year! The last weeks before our departure on June 28th were very hectic, the last days especially. We spent almost all our time either at work, or packing the apartment into boxes. Getting everything done on time meant also that we slept rather short nights during the last days at home, so we were actually rather tired when we arrived in Århus yesterday afternoon. We selected Århus as our first stop on the trip because neither of us has seen other Danish cities besided Copenhagen before, and it is also conveniently on our way to Hirtshals where our boat towards Faroe Islands leaves on Tuesday. Friday, September 9, 2011 The Emerald Princess docked in Aarhus, Denmark near at a dock within walking distance of downtown. For this reason we opted to explore the city on our own. With map in hand, we began our half hour walk from ship to town. Aarhus, like most of the towns we had visited on this cruise, had an extensive, and by appearances anyway, efficient public transportation system. The buses and trains were always arriving at stops for the locals to board. There seemed to be little wait time. A beautiful canal ran through downtown. Most of the cafes provided outdoor seating areas for their customers. And while it was early in the day, there were customers at many. Hoi zäme Zwei schöne Windtage habe ich in Hvide Sande verbracht und bin nachher weiter nach Deutschland gereist. Hvide Sande bedeutet weisser Sand und ist eine beliebte Feriendestination auch für Einheimische. Eine Düne - welche aber kilometerlang ist - sowie eine Strasse und ein paar Ferienhäuser jeweils trennen das Meer vom Fjord, der Ausblick ist herrlich wenn man auf der Düne steht. Das Meer ist rauh und am Fjord finden sich die Feriensurfer. Jedoch sind die Spots am Fjord ideal zum Üben - hunderte Meter Stehbereich und Flachwasser! Nun bin ich bei einer Freundin in Lemgo - das Städtchen liegt in der Nähe bei Hannover. Es gibt nicht viel zu berichten, ich geniesse einfach die Zeit und chille und shoppe und wir haben eine gute Zeit zusammen - auch mit ihren Freunden. Das Städtchen ist herzig ... read more
