So one week ago us cool Copenhageners took off on a grass roots adventure in Western Denmark (the Danish equivalent of a New Yorker visiting Kentucky). Here we learned all about rural / less cosmopolitan Denmark and visited the second largest city of Århus (way cool). We started our adventure off at 8am Thurs morn...fine for everyone who lives five minutes from the center of town...torture for us who live a solid hour from school. C'est la vie. As a plus however, our tour group which was 18 people rather than most groups who were 40-50, we got the exclusive tour bus of Danish pop star Thomas Helmig We watched a Danish movie called "After the Wedding". Turns out after further research, there is nothing resembling a Danish 'feel good' movie. I bawled my eyes out ... read more

Danmark is amazing! Unskyld for not writing in this before! I have been So busy! I never imagined that being an exchange student could be this time consuming :-P So anyway...I have already done so much, yet it feels like I just got here. I'll just mention the highlights :-) My host family is amazing! Min mor's navn er Louise og hun er 41 år gammel (my "mom" is 41 years old) og min far er 43 år gammel. Min lillebror er 11 år. I also have two host sisters. One is about my age and she is in Argentina as an exchange student. I stay in her room. My other host sister is 15 and she goes to efterskole which is similar to boarding school. She is home some weekends. My little brother and ... read more

So I have been here for a month, and so far so good. Not much has changed, I still don’t know Danish, but I did go to camp, whish was pretty cool. It was a week long, and there were 150 exchange students there, from all over the world. It was pretty intense to experience like 10 different cultures, but also in like 100 different ways. Ever exchange student is so different and has such a different view on things. But basically were all the same because were going through the same things. I met some people ill probably be friends with not only the whole time I’m here but long after that! During camp we did 6 hours of Danish a day, for 4 days. I learned how to say stuff like “hi my ... read more

So I have been here for 2 weeks. A little longer. And it’s still amazing and so surreal. I have experienced some home sickness and I do miss everyone so so much. But once school started it made everything so much easier. Life here is so easy. So normal, and I’m already a part of the family I’m with, who I have to leave in 2 weeks. But I’m up for the challenges that face me. So as for what’s been going on, the biggest would have to be that school started! I’m in second year which is WAY cool because all the other exchange students in my school (3 others) are in first year, but apparently I was too clever. So school starting has so far been the best thing for me, I was really ... read more

Last weekend, I went to Jylland with the other 150 exchange students in Danmark for a "G2G" (get together). It was without doubt one of the best weekends I've had since I've been here! After travelling for four hours by train across Danmark, we arrived in Randers, in Jylland. It was fantastic to see all the people not in the Copenhagen area! Later that night after we had unpacked our bags and set up our beds (in my case, scrounged around for pillows cos i forgot to bring something to sleep on... sick one kate), we had dinner and then did karaoke. I, along with some other Aussies, teared up the stage with Land Down Under, then burned up the dancefloor to other people's fantastic singing. After karaoke Prue, Amy and I kicked Marshall and Scott's ... read more

i just got back from intro camp, so thought i should tell you how it was! the week was, in one word, amazing. it was so so good to meet other exchange students who are in the same position as me and it was crazy how quickly you become friends with people. everyone is so open to meeting people on exchange, and it makes it very easy to find people you 'click' with. i experienced this alot on camp, meeting other exchangies mainly from australia and new zealand (but also some from brasil, argentina and south africa) who by the end of the week, i felt like id known for years. a typical day on the camp would involve breakfast between 8am and 830am (or for people like me, rocking up to brekkie at 8.28), before ... read more

Warning: This joint blog contains an obscene number of personal jokes and sexual connotations. Parental guidance is recommended for persons under 15 years of age. Time for an update! Kate and Elisa are on intro camp this week, just chilling and junk. They got to Aarhus yesterday (Sunday) via train from Copenhagen. There, they met up with their Perth buddy Adam ‘the lad’ Spight. Around fifty other exchange students (mostly from Australia and Brazil) are also at the camp. Every day this week they will have 6 hours of Danish lessons. The rest of the time is spent hanging with the bitches in the lad pad and re-enacting High School Musical. Yesterday they had a tour of the school, as well as introductory assemblies. After dinner they enjoyed a sing-along in the lounge with Levi playing ... read more

My baby turned five yesterday. Minnesota has a "golden birthday" tradition which simply means the birthday in which you turn your age on the date of your birth is special. So Jorgen turned five on October 5th, thus...he is golden! This tradition wasn't known to me growing up in South Dakota, but my kids are enjoying the idea of a "Golden Birthday". For the past year, Jorgen has spent his playtime primarily with Legos. The original lego toys were carved out of wood by a man in Denmark in the 1930's. Billund, Denmark is home to the original Lego land. Our destination for this golden birthday was obvious...after all, we're right next to Denmark. Well, not exactly "right next to". Our Denmark journey begins! Friday morning we left the house at 7 am, to catch the ... read more
