Forget common security, trade, economic or cultural interests. I think the greatest way to promote warm relations between two countries and their citizens is for one country to have one of its own marry into the royal family of the other. This is a big concession to make for an ardent anti-royalist like me, but as an Aussie visiting Denmark, one can't help but feel that the proof is in the pudding. Danes seem to love Australians, and we love them back. If you are an Australian and you don't, well, wake up to yourself. All the Danes I have met thus far on my travels (and there have been a few - they are prolific travellers per capita) have been warm, friendly and a good laugh, and it was no different when I was surrounded ... read more

Arrived in Århus......got into a nice hostel...but the people there were.....-__-" Either they are in groups not in my dorm and never in the hostel, or...have a few weird guys in my dorm room........-__-" Anyways, Århus seems to be a very nice town with a very very vibrant night life... My hostel is right behind the bar and cafe street along this river..and wow! so much reminded me of Ljubljana! with people just crowded along the river eating and drinking at night....! I havent actually walked into the city centre...but seems like its a pretty big city.. First full day, and the only one, was devoted to Legoland! wahhahaaa! got up early and just headed there right away..had to take a train then a bus. The bus driver didn't charge money on the way to Legoland! ... read more

I am getting ready for this trip and got me a nice color box. With a set of cheap watercolor, and a nice set, some crayons, and a couple note books. I even found a copy of the classic Moleskins journals. It's going to be nice to sit back, relax, and paint sunsets:)... read more

Danish Koloni huset: Those houses were built in the 60th, for the workers, so they could grow some veggies as well as relax in a nice setting. The communist would say "it is a plot to keep the workers revolution down!!!!", but really i'd rather look at it as a nice way to let people have some outside private space for very cheap. Some of what used to be simple tool schacks have turned into complete and sometimes livable habitations. The setting of the gardens is amazing. spread through town, they give a feeling of peace and familly. The type of place that makes you forget where you are, you are here, and it's fine like that. As if those spaces suspend time, here you are, as if you have always been there. Those places that ... read more

Hello there family and friends...i think this is going to be my last blog before i leave copenhagen since i only have about a week and a half left. Craaazy. This last weekend I went to Western Denmark on another study tour, this time by bus only and no ferry ride. =( hehe. jk. It was great fun because I'm getting to know the people more and more since we were on the last trip together too. My birthday was on Friday, the day I left for the trip, so i celebrated Friday night with some people here. I wish I could have taken a picture of it, but my professor and the intern got me a cake...well two humongous Danish pastries that could feed at least 30 people decorated with lots of little Danish flags. ... read more

Day 15 This morning, we went to the rainforest bio domes in Aahus. Breanne wanted to take Jessie and Amanda and show them the animals. It was pretty cool. Each bio dome had different animals and birds. They just flew and ran around you. Most weren’t caged up. There were parrots and forest foul in the trees. They were just like our chickens but they hung out in the trees. Too funny. Little monkeys ran around and these little deer like things. Even the snakes were just hanging around without cages. It was humid in there but still a fun place to go. After than, we drove to a castle ruins out on the coast and fried ourselves in the sun to get a few pictures. It was funny because all these cows were making their ... read more

July 6th Day 14 - Aahus The weather here has been unseasonably warm, about 90 degrees so we decided to head to one of the many beaches for a few hours. The water was very warm as was the sun. We’re all coming home with a tan. Later in the evening, we were invited to a BBQ at Bre’s counselors home. We had a great meal and a great time. ... read more

Day 13 Breanne took us around to the sites in Aarhus. One was a Williamsburg-like part of Aahus they call old town (Den Gamly By). There were people dressed up like the people of the era. There were also children playing games and running around the town just like it was back then. Kinda cool. In the evening, the rotary had a special dinner for us and Breanne. When we got there, the custom is to take a beer opener that is on a special hanger on the wall. Each opener has number and you are to sit at the place that corresponds with the number. This way you usually sit by someone different at each meeting. The meal started with buttered rye bread that they passed around. Then the herring that you put on top ... read more

Day 12 - We didn’t really do anything when we got here but watch the Germany vs. Italy soccer game. We did have a reservation at a B&B that we found on the internet but it really was only a nicer hostel. We stayed one night and found other accommodations near by. ... read more
