Rather excited as I've just set up my profile on Travelblog.org to document and share my impending journey to become an EFL teacher in Asia and all other travelling. Just feel though it would be a shame to not share some of my more recent past trips with others. Only really going to post photos of these trips and perhaps add some more text at a later date. Denmark and Sweden: Last year my Mum and I took a trip to Norway in the run up to Christmas and had a great time, so we decided to do something similar this year and go to Copenhagen and Malmo. Flew into Copenhagen and once checked into our hotel went straight to Tivoli Gardens, a theme park come garden that in the run up to Christmas transforms into ... read more

Geo: 55.6763, 12.5681After a month and a day we finally got out of the hotel but at least we had more room in a suite for the last 2 weeks, so we didn't kill each other. Moved into a nice house on 2nd Nov, not unlike our own but brighter, bigger and more wooden on the inside. Actually it is the bottom half of a big house but you can hear the stupid neighbours who sound like elephants upstairs! But apart from that its nice. But rent is a daft price though - 1600eur plus 200eur utilities! Some things are way dearer here like rent as I said (with 2-3 months deposit!) But clothes seem cheaper. Have bought 4 pairs of shoes so far! We went to the New York City Ballet last night which was ... read more

Geo: 55.7037, 12.5978Still in a hotel Comfort Mayfair in Copenhagen as obv. finding accomodation not so easy til you get your bearings - so as I said we are near Red Light District which is fun to venture through & go to 'Spunk bar' (Spunk is a danish sweet!) & is a 'normal' bar for that neighbourhood - but at least we have a suite now for same price as an ordinary room (which was decent of the hotel) as we will be staying for a month in total here. The majority of hotels are based around there which a bit strange but its easy to avoid the RLD, in fact when I was in a hotel across the road last year with Mum we didn't even notice what was around the corner! It's all perfectly ... read more

Geo: 55.6763, 12.5681Arrived 21:30 last night no hassle, airport train even less hassle then turn left out of Central Station & voila in Hotel district (also red light district incidently but it all seems grand). Went for a pretty expensive Indian which also seemed the restaurant is an entrance to a night club, very entertaining ....... read more

Copenhagen is home to 1 million people including all the suburbs and is a really cool city. The weather was amazing when I was there which according to Katrine with whom I stayed (my friend from India) is unusual for this time of year. There certainly is plenty to do here, you need a big wallet though as it is even more expensive than London!!! There is a law that no building can be higher than 5 storeys in the city and being that Denmark is virtually all at sea level you don't get many opportunities to see the city from a vantage point. There is however a very tall gothic church in Christian Town called Vorfrelsers Kirke (Our Saviours Church) which was well worth the climb as the views were excellent. It does not look ... read more

Irish Cream at 30,000 feet Cruising at 30,000 feet over the Black Sea, the temperature outside is -51 degrees F. Sunset on top of the world, the clouds below are doing a good job of capturing the fading rays of the sun. If you strain your neck way backwards and stick your nose to the cold oval window, you can see the sun behind the aircraft disappearing beneath a foamy sea of clouds. You desperately stick your camera to the window at an awkward angle, but all that’s in focus are the artistic condensed water patterns framing the window. With a sigh, the camera is resigned to the lap - a faithful companion on a transient journey… The ground beneath the aircraft is brilliant orange one moment; then we enter into another time zone, and it ... read more

Wonderful Copenhagen The pre-arranged cab guy from the night before turned up when he was supposed to and we made our way to the airport, luckily it was Saturday morning and the traffic was quiet. I managed to check my bag into storage which was a relief. I bought some Australian wine - one of my favourites together with some Cadbury’s chocolate (which you can’t get in Denmark) for my chocolate monster friend, David, who collected me from the airport. After dumping my stuff off, we caught a train down town, and started checking out the city sights. It was an absolutely perfect day, with the sun shining, so first up we took a canal cruise which took in the Black Diamond Library - which is made of black marble, the Opera House which was built ... read more

Hi All I arrived Safely in Sweden and on Friday Hanna took the day off work. We took the train into Copenhagen. WHAT a city.. it is absolutely beautiful.. We walked from the train station to the city hall and looked around.. inside it was like a square and was completely open.. Then we found an outdoor cafe and ordered a beer. We were asked small or large, and of course we said large... This was the biggest glass of beer i have ever drank. It was a full litre.. now thats a lot of beer at 11 am but we managed..and so from there, we dubed our trip the beer tasting tour of Copenhagen. Here I am in Copenhagen with Anna Laura and Kevin. AL and Kevin spent most of the time at the DNA Repair Conference, but I had plently of time to wander around Copenhagen. In the picture you can see the new Opera House in the background. I also went to visit the famous Tivoli Gardens, a prototype of the modern day theme parks. You can see me and Kevin as we were watching a parade of the characters of Hans Christian Andersen's stories. ... read more

Copenhagen would have never been on our list of travel sights if some of our best friends wouldn't have moved there earlier this year. So while we enjoyed visiting this city during our travels, what we LOVED more was seeing the Giff family! The city itself was quite small so it was easy to navigate for those reasons however you had to be EXTRA careful not to get runover by a bike. For those of you who don't know about a luxury tax, get ready for this, in Denmark if you would like a luxury item such as say.....a car, you better be prepared to shell out an extra 180% tax! So needless to say bikes are the economical way to drive. We passed on the adventure of using the colorful albeit ugly public bikes just ... read more
