The magic that is Tivoli
Tivoli Gardens in all its light(s)! Rather excited as I've just set up my profile on Travelblog.org to document and share my impending journey to become an EFL teacher in Asia and all other travelling. Just feel though it would be a shame to not share some of my more recent past trips with others. Only really going to post photos of these trips and perhaps add some more text at a later date.
Denmark and Sweden:
Last year my Mum and I took a trip to Norway in the run up to Christmas and had a great time, so we decided to do something similar this year and go to Copenhagen and Malmo. Flew into Copenhagen and once checked into our hotel went straight to Tivoli Gardens, a theme park come garden that in the run up to Christmas transforms into a winter wonderland. The amount of lights in the Gardens are staggering, can't imagine their electricity bill! It was Friday night and the place was packed to bursting, the extra body heat was however welcomed as the temperature was well below 0 Celsius. The following day we visited the historical district then Nyhavn where there is a fantastic Christmas market along the port
Feels like I'm dreaming?
Tivoli Gardens often feels like a surreal dream. side. Where there were once brothels and sailors' drinking dens now stand expensive restaurants and other similar establishments, with people sitting outside wrapped in blankets drinking mulled wine. Went to the (in)famous Free State of Christiania and was fascinated by this distinctly alternative way of living. Strolling down the aptly named Pusher Street felt like walking through a frontier town in the Wild West. Drug dealers stand watching as a mixture of befuddled tourists and potential punters wander by on the dusty road, graffiti covers every building advertising the Pushers' stock, "Say No To Hard Drugs, Soft Drugs Only", apparently this is not strictly true. These were extraordinary sights within one of the richest, most developed cities in the world. Onto Malmo then where we spent a pleasant evening wandering around the picturesque lanes looking at the Christmas decorations. Our last day was spent walking in the parks and around the harbour, bitterly cold but very beautiful.
