“So… why would Little Mermaid killed herself? Why didn't she just… find another guy?” my husband asked. Errr, I don’t know. Because she was trying to proof that her love was true? I was trying to explain the Little Mermaid story to my husband; while struggling to take tourist-less picture of the statue (which is difficult considering the hordes of people that came out of tour buses). From what I can remember, sold her voice & soul to the evil witch; then died as sea foam once she found out her love was not returned by the prince. You know, for children’s story – that’s pretty raw emotion. I remember crying when I first read Little Mermaid (I hope you’re happy HC Andersen – you made a little girl cried). For a famous statue – it’s ... read more

That thing was HUGE. Like, gigantic. The plane, I mean. We were awed with the number of people waiting at the boarding room, as well as the long queue. Wow. This A380-800 really can take up to 800 people? And it’s almost filled up. Can’t see any empty seat. I wonder how many of these people got the 40% discount that we got though. It’s all started when my friend D told me there’s a Lufthansa discount. It’s like almost half off. I was tossing and turning. I knew I’ve always wanted a spring trip with my hubby. But I’m not so sure whether both of us can get the visa, considering the fiasco several years back. The discount only until certain dates though, where time wise we’re not eligible yet to apply for visa (it’s ... read more

American author Christopher Morley proclaims the bicycle to be the vehicle of artists, novelists and poets, and seeing the rich history of art and literature, progressive principles of design and a love for the finer things in life surrounding us everywhere, I wish I lived in a city that loves bicycles as much as Copenhagen... 9:45 AM- Arriving via ship into the Copenhagen Harbour. A walk in the Kings Park followed by a bus tour of the old city with our local guide Karen. The canals, Royal Palace, Tivoli Gardens, Hans Christian Anderson's little mermaid. It becomes apparent that this incredibly preserved city is much more rooted in history than Oslo. Row upon row of colourful terraced housing open onto impressive plazas everywhere! 2pm- Grabbing snacks at a local grocery enroute to the impressive ... read more

What better way to start a Danish adventure then with a six hour bus ride from Hamburg to Copenhagen (also included a 45min ferry trip across the sea!) The German autobahn on a good day can be challenging but on a day like today cars, trucks and the bus alike spent more time slipping and drifting then driving with haste. A dangerous trip when the roads are covered in dirt and snow, with more snow falling by the minute. Arriving here in Copenhagen one thinks of fairytales and kings and queens, where Vikings once roamed and of Carlsberg beer. It is that and much more! The icy Scandinavian cold winds blew through the city all day, with the temperature dropping often into the minuses and giving us a new blanket of snow fall. This adventure called ... read more

Hi everyone, So I survived my trip to Denmark and came back to Holland in one piece. It was amazing to see my cousins and extended family in Denmark. I haven't been there since I was two years old prior to this trip, though my mom is half Danish and has a lot of family there still. Due to some unfortunate family drama over the last two generations, I hadn't spent any time with my second cousins, Jonas and Andre, until now. Actually, to backtrack a little, My cousin Andre came to stay with my family when he was 18 to study English, but I hadn't seen him since then, and Jonas is my age, and I hadn't seen him since I was two years old. Originally, I had emailed Andre to see if I could ... read more

Copenhagen, 18th February, written in two parts ;) Friday 15th February – thank god it’s Friday! There I am again, it’s 8 am and I’m sitting in the classroom already. It’s kind of light outside already, guess the days are getting longer. Luckily! I heard that during wintertimes, there are very few hours of light here, whilst during summer, it gets dark only very late at night and just for a few hours. I guess it’s more or less logical, since this country lies more northern in relation to the Netherlands. But, then again, I’m no weather specialist so I couldn’t tell. I’m a public health practitioner! So, last week Thursday I uploaded my first blog. Since then, quite a lot has happened again. The best boyfriend ever in the world, Rowan, made the lovely last-minute ... read more

Copenhagen, Thursday 7th of February 2013 – Somewhere in a ghetto-like suburb So here I am, trying to start writing my blog. A blog. Sounds interesting, right? You know people writing them, or hear people following blogs all the time. Well, then I guess I should start by mentioning I don’t have any experience with writing nor reading them. I don’t consider myself an expert blogger therefore, since this is the first ‘piece’ I’m writing now, and I have no knowledge or whatsoever to know how I should even handle this. What I’ve done in these 5 lines above – yes, I can count, that’s something I àm capable of – is just write down whatever came to my mind. And that’s exactly how I plan on writing my whole blog history-to-be. The thing is, I ... read more
