Loud thunderstorms and rain overnight so was wondering what the day might bring when I woke up. So a leisurely rise for breakfast by the water. The sun is shimmering on the water like glistening diamonds. A lot of catamarans has docked in the bay for the night as well. Teeth brushed, hat on and I head down to the small wharf to get an early water taxi. I went to walk it yesterday (a short 10-15 minute walk I was told- not so!) but there were no footpaths and cars and buses so I decided ‘when in Korcula do as the Korculans do’ go by water transport. Everything happens on the water in Croatia. So a ‘mind the gap’ leap to board the water taxi. A few minutes out we stopped alongside a catamaran to ... read more

Today began with a transfer to Korcula Island for a couple of days. I woke up to a rainy day and to be honest, not being a ‘boaty’ person I wasn’t looking forward to a 2 + hours trip on the water. But the universe was looking after me. I ‘hitched’ a seat on a day trip to Korcula with the organisers of my transfers in Croatia so had a wonderful 3 hour road trip through those huge foreboding Rocky Mountains that seem to hug Croatia wherever you are. We stopped at Ston for a break and wander in the rain- quite wet but not enough to spoil my time there. The Walls of Ston are a series of defensive stone walls from Pirates, originally more than 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) long, that surrounded and protected the ... read more

Lovely lazy morning with a late breakfast and then down to the quiet of the beach to meditate ( been a bit slack while I’ve been away). A gentle lapping against the stoney beach and gulls singing in the background made it the perfect location. About 45 minutes later I headed back to my room to prepare for a walk around the bay and heads to the next bay that leads to open waters along an old rock wall. Today is all about relaxation and soaking the Dubrovnik sun and sea. Walking back over the beach stones, small stones made their way into my sandals and took 3 attempts to get rid of them. Wandering off I pass the first so called sandy beach at my favourite sunset spot........ I am soon reminded from previous visits ... read more

Today has been all about the old town of Dubrovnik. Breakfast, then caught the local bus number 4 to the Old Town. It was reasonably early but the bus was a sardine can. Thankfully I got a seat- I think my white hair came into play again! Accents were Aussie, British, American and all sorts of Europeans. Arriving, we all poured out of the bus at the wall of the Old Town. The crowds were unbelievable! Dobrovnik has not yet worked out how to manage the crowds and endless large tourist bus. The streets were clogged. They could learn from how Budapest manages the Buda side of the Danube. I counted at least 10 tour guides holding up flags, numbers or umbrellas and I’m sure there were more. The cruise ships are also constant visitors and ... read more

Started the day at 5:30 am with an email asking to ring my travel agent. BAD NEWS! The company my Croatian travels has been booked through has gone into receivership overnight. Won’t know anymore until I arrive in Dubrovnik and check in to see if pre-payment has been made. If so all will be ok. If not my organised travel is void. A waiting game ........?. Arrived in Croatia. The mountains as we came into land reminded me a little of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco- rugged with villages nestled in the flat area at the bottom and the water a beautiful turquoise. Driving from the airport takes your breathe away as you come around the corner and see Dubrovnik with the water your guide all the way. I discover at the airport that the company ... read more

Many people that have cruised in Croatia told us that there are numerous restaurants that provide either moorings or a quay that you can stop at for the night with the understanding that you eat at their restaurant. We had not tried this yet so thought we would before we left Croatia. We checked and it appeared that there were a couple of restaurants in a bay that would be on the way south so made a reservation at one of them. We first thought we would anchor out in the bay as it would give us a chance to have a little bit of breeze when we arrived as the days are still quite warm. We got to the bay and tried a couple of times to anchor, but did not have any luck getting ... read more

23.08.2019. We left Hvar this morning via ferry for Dubrovnik. Our hotel staff deposited us and our luggage on the docks and we boarded with hundreds of other people. Everybody found a spot for their luggage and took a seat for the three hour journey. It was quite a pleasant journey, stopping off at two places before berthing in Dubrovnik. The retrieval of luggage took a while but everyone just waits until they can reach theirs and then disembarks. We taxied to our hotel, which is situated in a bustling pedestrian only area, and was greeted by a friendly chap who not only gave us our key but a piece of paper informing us that our pick up time on Monday morning for the coach to the airport would be 4.30am! Can’t wait! We took a ... read more

It was time to leave Preko marina and start our journey south. The calendar is telling us we will need to start moving on to allow us time to enjoy our trip to Turkey where we will overwinter Tsamaya. While I went to the marina office to pay the bill and stop at the store for a loaf of bread, Bob warmed up the engine and when I got back we slipped our line and left at 8:10AM. We did head north for a short time as we wanted to get to a bay on the other side of the same island, Ugljan. We knew it wasn’t going to be too long a trip but we also knew that we were going to be getting some stronger winds in the next few days and decided this ... read more

20.08.2019. This morning we said farewell to Ema, our gorgeous host in Split, who, as promised, walked us to the ferry terminal for our trip across to Hvar Island, a journey of one hour. We were greeted on Hvar by a representative from our hotel who organised us and our luggage to be delivered there forthwith! We settled in and at about 5.00pm took off on a short and pleasant walk into the main square for drinks and dinner. Our hotel is pretty good with a pool and bar area, plenty to choose from in the way of meals but we chose to wander into the square to eat and enjoy the atmosphere. The staff are young, friendly and helpful, the hotel facilities excellent. Hvar has a gorgeous port, filled with many boats and some very ... read more
