Not a whole lot going on in Sofia. The place is actually kind of boring, though there are a few things to see. Perfect for a pit stop, unless you're there on a bachelor party (I saw a few of those), or on somebody's birthday (some of the guys I met later on had that) as the place is cheap with good looking girls. Tuesday, May 13th: Not a whole lot of sleep on the train this morning, as I kept on not wanting to miss my stop in Sofia. It was nice, though, having the sleeper cabin all to myself. Long walk to Hostel Mostel - which turned out to be booked - but they were nice enough to help me find another close-by and I got myself settled in there (email, bags down, etc...). ... read more

It wasn't until a friend contacted me to see if I was OK that i realised it had been 6 wks since last communication. Got 200Lv off car repair as they said that part looked reasonable first time so to save money(700Lv) for this part they sent me out without it. Total cost 500Lv incl service and German maanufactured part .Now going superbly and taking over as workhorse from caravanna with the exception of very large items like matresses and suite for lounge at 24. Hustle is on to get basics in place for visit of Lee and fam and Sam and Stu on 3rd May.Bedroom(guest) floor replaced and walls refreshed so OK Sam for habitation !Bathroom starting to be developed so it will provide internal WC facility and shower. Again that will make stay more ... read more

Just as I thought things had settled well I found that my expensive clutch had started to slip already - as a result i am having to loose the car for 2 days while it is sorted. Yesterday went to garage with meta and daughter for support re unacceptability and in 2 hours when I go back today to leave it I have the unenviable prospect of trying to get dogmatic re free repair. They have already started to make noises about running on 4 wheel driving but the clutch should be competent to cover this eventuality or else not much point having it. Unfortunately it may prove less conclusive an argument for me to get free repair. Will just have to see. On to a pleasanter note ,Bottie recovered from stitches, trauma and injection ok and returned to ... read more

So to continue. As you know the winter weather had arrived in style on my return thus cramping my actions to a degree. However now, although some roads still have snow verges, most of the land is clear.I just have 2 small pockets remaining at boyana - both houses. There is a minor trickle emanating from groundfloor new shower tap installation that I intend to get fixed and No 24 had to have a new water meter as the glass had cracked.Unfortunately the taps either side are too old to close properly and so this is another thing requiring fixing. With the addition of a wardrobe for top bedroom and 3 drawer chest of drawers it is complete and the lounge is also finished off there. The next big push is to tidy up and re-vamp Yunets, prior to' kells' ... read more

In theory I traveled to Sofia, Bulgaria for the EGEE-II All-Activity Meeting, but in reality I just traveled towards it. I will be damned if this doesn't become part of my travel blog to Sofia, Bulgaria. Here is my story - ENJOY!: Starting my day at 5am to catch a taxi to the airport for a flight from Pisa to Milan at 6.55am, only to have that flight cancelled for the second time. From there a bus was organised for 8am (again, but this time to Rome) where I was told to remain at the "Meeting Point". Come 8:15-8:30, being in Italy, we remained as patient as possible only to become anxious to walk over to where the buses were arranged the last time. (I speak in the plural as I had another gentleman with me ... read more

Can't believe how long since the last blog.1st thing is rest of journey with motor uneventful except for trying to get through Romania.heavy fog and poor roads conspired to make an o'nite necessary as I chose to follow main road rather than go to Vidin.Never again will I use Ruse crossing. Arriving back in Bulgaria I was immediately aware that fog was still persisting and that they had had heavy snow. However it wasn't until reaching Varna motorway and finding only one lane clearish that I realised getting to Boyana might be a problem!!Decided that should go long way round via Dobrich and hope 2 nasty hills on this route might have been salted or ploughed.Driving between 10 ft roadside snowpiles on main road ,where plough had been, and negotiating occasional incursions into near lane through snow ... read more

We actually made it upstairs for breakfast this morning and we were completely right about it. We weren't even told what/where it was, we had to ask for it. It was a little pastry each filled with cream cheese. Seriously what is wrong with cereal and toast? We chatted to the Iranian guy (Ally) for a while and an irritating woman kept on butting into the conversation with banarl comments. We learned quite a lot from Ally and in particular that Kosovo is a bit tumultuous at the moment due to a bid for independence that will be decided in the near future. We assured him that we would look into it before we crossed the border into either Serbia or Kosovo. Yesterday we finally managed to find a few birthday cards after a few weeks ... read more
