Loved Munich. After our last post we did a little shopping at H & M. My favorite store. After that we hit up a local beerhall with many of our friends. Finished nearly 3 liters of beer. 2 for Lou. Tried to keep up with the boys. Then caught the last train back to the hotel and completly crashed. In the morning we stopped at a concentration camp. It was incredibly moving. The worst part was the gas chamber and we stopped in the church to pray. That was by far my favorite part. It was filled with sunflowers. Never been in such an emotional church. After that we made our way into Austria. We stopped in Innsbruck where they had the winter olympics. Sampled some local schnaps and went to the crystal show room. It ... read more

Geo: 48.0765, 12.9132Crappy breakfast. Pate and cheese were not good. Ate with the Italian lady and her daughter (the one that helped me with laundry last night). Nice lady, from Torino. Off to Salzburg. Maribell Gardens ... beautiful. Stunning sculptures. Old-town - lively, with a fruit market. Had a burenwurst ... tasty! Kollegiekirche - interesting Baroque style. Mozart's birthplace - boring, but doing something Mozart related is obligatory here. Had a chocolate "Mozart Ball". Unlike the balls that Chef from "South Park" makes, they were not salty chocolate balls. Rather, they were sickly sweet (marzipan?). Continued walking and saw the largest Baroque fountain in the world. Cool. Reminded me of the Bartholdi fountain in Washington, DC, though both are quite different. Went to the "Dom" (cathedral, not an S&M practitioner you sickos!). Just anot... read more

It´s over. The backpacks, margarita pizzas, and Italian bus systems are far behind, as I travel by train from Pisa to Vienna. I shared a car with an Italian, so-stereotypically-named-Antonio, and couple from the States(her), and Mexico(him). He had de best accent, by the way! For all you out there who remember the story about the hombres who fixed my car, you can understand why I had to hold back laughing everytime he spoke!! AND............... it just made me laugh again! We shared a bottle of vino, exchanged music and travel stories as well as what we planned to do in the future. It was a unanticipatted good time! I arrived in Vienna where Isabella- a friend of Kefa´s met me at the train station and took me to her super-cute flat. From there, we went ... read more

Geo: 47.4898, 11.7043Magically, my pedometer is functioning again. A little late, though. At breakfast ... they had hazelnut yogurt!!!! Whatever genius that thought of that should get a Nobel prize. I tried to learn some German on the train. "Gutentag" is probably the only thing I can say almost perfectly in another language. "Gutentag" used to be 1/6 of my German vocabulary ... I am proud to say that it is now 1/10! Bolzano was good prep for Austria and Germany because it is bilingual and had most signs in both German and Italian. Got to Innsbruck ... rainy and cold. Had to wear pants again ... nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!Pricing is odd here .. some things are quite cheap and some are quite pricey. Walked through the Alstadt (old town centre) - very cool. Almost like a time ... read more

Grüss Gott! In my last entry I talked about Salzburg and a little bit of its history and all that. I’ll talk a little bit more about what I’ve been doing since I got here! The first week was spent auditioning for the teachers and deciding which voice teacher would take which student. We had to pick a 1, 2, and 3rd choice and then after we auditioned, they somehow divided us up based on those choices. Really I think it was just a ploy to be able to hear everyone that was in the program. Either way, we sang.  Let’s see, I am studying with Mary Schiller who is a professor at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She’s very good and I’m glad to be working for her. She has also asked me to ... read more

Guten Tag! Wie Gehts? Ich bin sehr gut! Although this is the beginning of the journal, this is actually the last full week that I will be in Austria. I'm going to begin by basically just saying a little bit about the city and my first experiences here in Austria. The city of Salzburg is just over the German border and is situated in the "hills" as my host family says, but as you will see from my pictures, these hills are really mountains. They are the outskirts of the Alps. The city gets its name from the salt mines that are so previlant in these hills and that is why the town began in the middle ages. Salt, as I'm sure you know, was needed to preserve food, so it was considered very valuable and ... read more

Hello again. Thankyou for reading by the way, it is much appreciated. We left Venice early in the morning, we hopped onto the best train we have experienced so far. It was the most hogwarts express kind of train, with compartments that have chairs you can turn into beds. there were plugs to charge and the best bit of all a lovely austrian tea boy. The journey was also the best we have had, we travelled through the alps so we saw our first snow capped mountains! Even though Austria is small it barely has anyone living in it by the looks of things. The houses that we did see were beautiful and all the different colours of them blended so well. The Austrian countryside is just a stunner to look at, they paint their phone ... read more

Salzburg would have to be one of the most beautiful cities! ...hard to compare with Prague though. Abit too different. Here everything is so green and pretty. But the weather has been shocking! Has basically been raining since we arrived! Im glad i can read signs though, that is making things alot easier than in Czech! Today we went for a walk from our hostel through the city to Schloss Mirabell. The palace these days is used for the town mayor's offices...so not much to look at inside, but it would have been spectacular back in the day. The gardens totally made up for the slight dissapointment though...beautiful! but the fact that is was raining non stop has made things not as pleasant as they could be. For this 'summer' leg of the journey we only ... read more

My Mom and I are here in Vienna! It is incredible, more beautiful than I had expected it to be. Everywhere you look there are buildings, doorways, architectural details worth a photo or two, and I've already taken far more than is necessary here! This morning we walked through the city, stopping at St. Stephen's Cathedral to climb the 343 stairs to the top of the north tower, which has a remarkable view of the city surround. Then we went over to the Hofburg Imperial Palace, which is a giant, overwhelming, beautiful complex of buildings and gardens. In the gateway entrance to the palace complex we stopped to listen to a violinist, who had hooked his instrument up to speakers, amplifying his sound to fill the domed gateway. Then a horse-drawn carraige passed through... It is ... read more

Sorry for the lack of updates, but we have been busy planning our itinerary and places to stay, so we do not end up sleeping on the street. We spent five hours tonight figuring out where we are going to next. Our original plan was to head to Budapest after Vienna where we are now, and where we have been since Wednesday, but it is too far out the way, The train from Vienna to Venice is about seven hours and that is long enough. After much debate, we also decided to leave Greece out of our itinerary, because it takes far too long to get to, and we cannot afford to fly. We are disappointed, but are excited for Italy. Also, we plan on spending more time in rural France, for we have more time ... read more
