Today will be a short blog as we are having a day of rest and relaxation in the Tirol. We have been invited for lunch at Anne’s in Seefeld. Seefeld is approximately 30 minutes from Axams and I love the drive there as we drive down into the Inn Valley and up Zirler Berg on the other side. It is dramatic scenery all the way. Anne has been another close friend since the early 1980s when I spent three years living and working in Seefeld. I have spent many weeks over the past years at her home - either using one of her apartments for a skiing holiday or dog-sitting for the lovely Rory occasionally when she went on one of her exotic and exciting trips. Needless to say I am really excited about returning to ... read more

Friday 22 May: When we arrived at our hotel yesterday evening Zachary was very excited to see they had an in-house kindergarten. We talked to him about it and he said he would like to go. This morning we discussed it again and explained how it would be like when he went to Jenny or Denise’s place. Mummy and Daddy would be somewhere else (going to museums). He was super-keen to go so we packed his bag and went down at 10 to meet Olga, the young lady who runs it. She speaks passable English, certainly well enough to communicate with children, so it was all good. We left him to it and headed into Innsbruck. First stop was the Tourist Info office at the Hauptbahnhof. Treviso (and other places for that matter) take note – ... read more

Been offline for a couple of days so bit of a long update this time. Check extra photos below. Tuesday 19 May: As planned we got to Zurich airport to make our 10:13 train to Bern, the first leg of the journey to Adelboden. That train ran a few minutes late so it was a bit of a mad dash up a steep flight of steps and down another hauling all our luggage to get to the platform we needed to get the next train. Just managed to get in on time, and we were then told we would have to move carriage in a couple of stops as only the front half of the train went where we needed. This done we got to Frutigen and then caught the bus, thus maintaining our 100% ... read more

Spent the day visiting suppliers and making sure all is in order for our guests when they arrive from 20 Dec. Am a little concerned about the lack of snow in Seefeld. The lift services wanted to being last week - but they had to postpone because of lack of snow. There is no "based on which to build the pistes - so they are desperately waiting for snow. They have snow-making machines working in some areas - but it won't be enough :(... read more

Well,we're in Seefeld. We arrived shortly after dark last night and found our b&b up on the hill. It looks like Austria! And there's even lots of snow. Our host is very friendly (doesn't know any English :) ) and our room is small but clean and comfortable. After unloading our stuff we explored the town. It's much more touristy than we expected, but still looks like a European town. For dinner I finally had the schnitzel und suppe I've been dreaming of ever since we started planning the trip. It was delicious! We only had one mix up with the order when Brad ordered a Radler beer thinking it was going to be darker than the fantastic house beer. The Radler ended up being a mix of beer and lime soda which was also pretty ... read more

The day everyone has been waiting for..!! The village was abuzz with locals and visitors alike. Whilst the 25th Dec is not observed as the tradition "Christmas Day" that we in Australia/UK/USA/NZ do...we have our "traditional" Christmas Day lunch at the Hotel Central. Kathie and I spent some time adding Christmas decorations to the Christmas Table - including some Cracker Jacks for the younger children. (we did this last year for everyone - but as they are "made in China" thingys that requires some time and patience to put together - the cardboard "jack", the joke, the party hat and then the ribbon ties - it makes for aching fingers, so we just did enough for the younger ones). Santa had been caught up in the floods in outback QLD, so he sent 2 bags of ... read more

This day is a planned "rest" day for the group. Those who wanted to go skiing were able to do that just 200m from the hotel. Others strolled through the village centre, enjoying the Christmas Markets, local stores or a 5 minute walk to the Olympic Centre to watch skaters, cross country skiers and other visitors enjoying Seefeld. This evening was our "gala" dinner at the hotel. 24 Dec. is when the locals gather with other family members to share company, open personal gifts and just enjoy this special time of the year. In the Hotel Central, we gathered with other hotel guests to hear a local musician play Christmas music, then see the lighting of the Christmas tree, and also to hear a Christmas Soty about "Friendship". First it was told in German by Yvonne ... read more
