Hello Hello! We we made it to Puerto Rico-barely! Even though I am on land now I am swaying back and forth like I'm still on the water. The ship is amazing, way more than I expected. Let's see where to begin... My room has a window which is very nice to have, it's not a dark cave like the ones that don't have windows. Everyone on the ship is really friendly, especially the workers. The first day we had orientation, we met the faculty and got the general run down. The days are divided into A and B days and you have different classes depending on that day. On A days I only have one class, so I can just do homework outside on the deck and on B days I have 4. I have ... read more

True touristy feel Touring Puerto Rico Ricky Martin’s Home. Our ship, the Explorer of the Seas pulled into San Juan Puerto Rico in the early afternoon and we were able to disembark around 2PM. So once again I had myself a lazy start of a morning with two sleepyheads as cabin mates. Mind you, I too was being lazy and was so lazy I only contemplated taking a trip outside of our cabin to check out the deck…I have the rest of the week to do that! Instead I did a bit more crafting, some reading and surfing of the net. I am a self admitted addict to the computer game Spider…just one more game… After a filling lunch up at the Windjammer we readied ourselves for an afternoon in San Juan. Pass the sunblock please! ... read more

So where was I....Other than the tiny plane the trip to Peter Island was fairly uneventful. The plane landed at Tortola, and from there we took a 20 minute ferry ride to the island. Peter Island is, of course, predictably beautiful, with long white sand beaches and waving palm trees. We spent most of the first couple of days just being beach bums (although a few of us made decent attempts at windsurfing). On Wednesday we all did a scuba resort course, and then went on a wreck dive (it was only 30 ft, but it was still pretty cool). I continue to be a little wary of scuba diving, and it was kind of hard for me to get comfortable down there, but I'm definitely glad I did it. In other news, we went on ... read more

Hi there folks. Sorry I haven't been updating, but the internet at Peter Island was expensive and slow, so I avoided it at all costs. We are now in Puerto Rico, which is lovely, and are getting ready to have lunch. I guess I should start from the beginning, however. First, I don't have malaria. My fever went down within 24 hours of arriving on Peter Island. On the way over to Puerto Rico I was lucky enough to get a first class upgrade. Once we got off the plane though, I started feeling really ill. When I was informed that we would be taking a nine-seater plane to Tortola, however, things went from bad to worse. We even had to give the airline our weights so they could properly balance the plane. It actually turned ... read more

Check out my photography homepage here: Stephen Hayden Photography Local business' that made the trip happen: Aventuras: San Juan, Puerto Rico Taino Divers: Rincon, Puerto Rico Lemontree Inn What drew me to Puerto Rico? Looking back on it, I'm not quite sure. It could have been the first time I heard about the bio-luminescent oceans, great diving, El Yunque(the only tropical rainforest in the US Forest Service)or gigantic caves. Ahh yes, an article on Mona Island, "The Galapagos of the Carribean". While I didn't go on a multi-day excursion to Mona Island, I did find out why Puerto Rico license plates say "La Isla de Encantada"... My plan was simple, rent a car and see as much of the island ... read more

Thinking fruit and vegetable stand here. Or grocery store. Nary a one in sight. Haven’t seen a single grocery store and I’ve been over 70% of the roads on this weird Island. Where the hell do people get their food? What the hell do they eat here? Oh, for just one Safeway deli. Where’s the food? The Chinese take out. There’s only these strange ramshackle roadside stands. They are built of an assortment of odd boards and sheets of tin. Not unlike a kids first tree house. A typical stand is hollowed out of the right-of-way brambles. Looks like a green cave. Trash is festooned in the bushes all around. Plastic bags and fast food wrappers waft languidly with each passing car. The wares are only an odd assortment of plastic milk jugs partially filled ... read more

We began our 2005 Puerto Rico vacation the minute we exited the airport with a trip to the Espana restaurant. Located on Route 26 right out of the airport in the direction of San Juan, it is just off the Carolina exit (just at the Burger King). You have to drive ahead a bit along the exit, then cross over the highway to the left at the first opportunity and then left again and straight ahead- stay on the access road (to the right) and you will see it just ahead. They have the most delicious Caldo Gallego soup, the kind of soup that you think about all year until you can come back, and great Cuban sandwitches. They also have a large variety of great desserts. Every single thing there is great, I think of ... read more

Puerto Rico Capital City is San Juan Arrived at the dock early in the morning. Processed through customs and released to go ashore. Rounded up our luggage and proceeded to the disembarking process and the bus to take us to our hotel. Arrived at the Marriott Hotel and checked in to a very nice ground floor room overlooking the swimming pool and beach. Weather hot and muggy with nasty looking storm clouds. Being Sunday morning, we located a church about a 5-min walk from the hotel so Marci could attend Mass. The mass was in Spanish but she was able to follow it and enjoyed the experience. After Mass it was back to the hotel for some lunch. We were seated outside in a patio area. Within 10 min after we were seated, it began to ... read more

Flight late leaving San Jose - Delta upgraded us to First Class so we could be first off the plane in Atlanta. Glad they did because we just made our connecting flight to Puerto Rico. Found out our luggage did not make the connecting flight from Atlanta. Delta agent suggested we go on to the ship and Delta would coordinate with Princess to get our luggage to us when it arrived. Weather in San Juan was hot and muggy. Had to wait almost an hour for the bus to take us to the ship. Arrival greeting crew not up to Princess standards. Checking in at the dock very smooth and we boarded with little more delay. Boarded the Dawn Princess with just our carry-on luggage. Cabin on the starboard side and with a balcony. Washed up ... read more
