blogger Dougo A sensational day that enters into the Top 5 of Trip Experiences! Today we were picked up early (9:30am is early for us!) and went on a tour of the El Yunque Rainforest and finished with one of the most amozing things ever. Raphael was our guide, a local Peurto Rican who always had a story to tell and a piece of advice about life to give. We picked up 8 others before we headed up to the rainforest. All American. All girls. This didnt really bother me that much being an elementary teacher and and having gone through uni with only a half dozen blokes out of a hundred. The first two were from Boston, Lindsay and Kofi, a great pair who made the day all the more enjoyable. We headed up ... read more

Fort in Old San Juan

Katie and I departed from Cincinnati after our last week of classes on a Saturday. Our cruise was scheduled to leave Sunday however, we were going to spend a day in San Juan. As we flew in I noticed on the runways there were snakes and there were broken down planes all around. However, we were so excited about the experience. We got off the plane and then inside the airport there it was super hot. I was in a Puma sweat outfit and Katie in a Victoria Secret one so just imagine two American girls sweating our butts off... The hair came up and we came around back for a taxi after grabbing our bags. After we got to the Coqui Inn we thought hey this cheap little hotel isn't bad.. let's unpack and get ... read more

I think if I had to sum up last weeks voyage in one word it would be “Ironic’. Last week I had my best friend sail - Kristen, and her cousin Kim. It was sooooo nice to have familiar faces from home sail and I was craving some comfort from home as well. So it was very nice to have that when they came. The week before they came I was running around the ship trying to make sure that I organized everything I could for their voyage. I wanted them to experience cruising at its best. I organized for the two of them to be models for the spa - one would receive a facial and the other an Isothermal massage. I organized for an upgraded room from the original two twin beds with no ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Puerto Rico » San Juan February 21st 2007

Of course I have plenty more pictures, but we had a great time on our cruise. My time in the US was too short, but I got everything done and had a very relaxing time cruising the Caribbean. We started off in Miami then went to Puerto Rico then on to St. Maartin and finally Haiti. I will add some pictures from all locations because I just realized as I select different counties, it highlights my map and I would hate to miss out on highlighting one of the countries on my map....lol Do you like the shirts. I put the logo on them with the machine my mom was going to give to my sister that I "borrowed" while she was in Germany, but of course now I am in Russia. I do not use ... read more

Viejo San Juan

Sunday, January 21, 2007 - Playa Flamenco, Culebra - Spanish Virgin Island, Puerto Rico Not many people have heard about the Spanish Virgin Islands, which mostly consists of two archipelago groups of Culebra and Vieques. This is the very spot where the Greater and Lesser Antilles meet. Geographically, these islands should be considered as the U.S. Virgin Islands instead of Puerto Rico; Culebra is only 12 miles west of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands (compared to 17 miles from mainland Puerto Rico). But, that is just a formality. Culebrenses would consider themselves as the ‘Spanish Virgin Island’. Just like Switzerland, they like to be neutral. Getting into Culebra is an adventure by itself, as it challenges adventurous souls to find their way from the capital of San Juan to the eastern town of Fajardo, ... read more
