Well, like great travelers, we talk about our plans for the new day. Today, it was simple...............more "beach" time - after a great breakfast, we spent the rest of the morning on the beach - sitting, walking, in the water! The sun and breeze will stay with us throught the rest of the Jersey winter. We checked out of the resort at noon and headed north and east - ultimate goal - Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan. Our "travel" plan was to follow the 115 to the 402, then the 2 until we hit the 22 and then stop in Bayamon, "El Pueblo del Chicharrón" (fried pig skin city). Our drive was smooth, the views great, more food on the side of the road, the reinforcement of Puerto Rican memories strong, and as ... read more

This was our planned "beach" day and were we ever lucky. Of course you remember that it is always 84, well............today, it was 87.............someone had to volunteer to live it and we did! The day started with a filling breakfast of Rincon Omelet (local sausage, green peppers, onions), home fries, pineapple, toast, and coffee. Well fortified, we headed out past the pool to the beach. Sunny - you ask sunny - well, it was sunny with a bunch of extra sunny - an absolutely beautiful day. We quickly fell into a great rhythm............catch some rays - swim in the Caribbean - catch some rays - swim in the pool...........well, you get the idea. Late morning refreshments at the in pool bar - Mojito! Then back for a long walk on the beach - and more time ... read more

Today we hit the road and headed west. A quick breakfast at La Patisserie de France and then onto the Rte. 22. Fortunately, we were headed out of San Juan, because they, like all of us, know how to do rush hour - big time! Now try to follow this...............speed limits are in mph, mileage markers are in kilometers, car odometers are in miles, and gas is sold by the liter (40.9/liter). Our first stop was in and around Isabela, a small town at the northwest corner of Puerto Rico. Known for its surfing beaches and beautiful plaza, our stop was indeed enjoyable. We walked around the plaza and, as we did in Cidra, watched the men play dominoes and truly appreciated the architecture and colors. We headed down 466 toward the beach area looking for ... read more

We decided to check out the beautiful tropical rain forests of Puerto Rico on our first day of the trip. Our guide for the day was this local guy who was friendly & knew a lot about all the flora & fauna of the forests. We had a mother & daughter couple as fellow travelers with us for this trip to the rain forest. We do love to spend time outdoors; not to say that we are athletic, but we just love being a little closer to nature than we can afford to most of the time! For us this trip to the rain forest was amazing & very relaxing at the same time. A surprising range of vegetation encompassing the full spectrum of colors, starting from wild mushrooms to gigantic leaves which changed color & turned ... read more

Excellent weather - did we mention that it was 84 and sunny - oh, but we did get a brief shower in the rainforest - very refreshing..........ok, now with the news! First, to complete last night. We decided to eat at the inn and went down to the outside bar and had some beer while the bartender cooked our meal (yes, we had a cheeseburger - but had a great conversation about Puerto Rico). We headed east this morning - destination El Yunque, a rainforest, which is about 35 miles from here. As you enter El Yunque, which is The Carribean National Forest and part of the U.S. Parks Service, you are greeted at a beautiful, open air welcome center. The paths are lined with flowers and trees and the facility has no doors - completely ... read more

We arrived at Philly International in plenty of time to catch our "on-time", no weather delays, flight. We did get a de-icing before we left, felt like a cool morning shower...............as we took off for our 3 1/2 hour flight. We resisted the temptation to buy the 5-star food and instead brought our own. Our landing was 10 minutes early and that meant we had 1 hour before the EAGLES kickoff. We are on Atlantic Time so we are one hour ahead of East Coast time.............oh, did we mention that it was sunny and 84 when we landed. Took the bus to the rental car, headed to our "residence", At Wind Chimes Inn - Condado neighborhood, and put everything in the room. On went the TV and we watched the first part of the game, oh, ... read more

Jimmy and I are in Puerto Rico now and plan to spend Christmas on the boat this year. Since the last blog entry we have put a few miles under our belts. We left Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela in late October and headed out of the country via the offshore Venzuelan islands of Los Roques and Los Aves. We spent a couple of days in each island group before sailing to Bonaire. Bonaire is part of the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao). This was our second visit to Bonaire. Jimmy and I were in Bonaire about 10 years on a scuba diving vacation. Bonaire is known for its pristine coral reefs and is popular among scuba divers. Jimmy made several dives while we were there and I snorkeled. I seldom dive anymore and prefer to ... read more

We've anchored in Mayaguez, Boqueron, Ponce and Salinas Puerto Rico. We plan to sail to the Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Central America, the Rio Dulce in Guatemala or Cartagena Columbia. Then we plan to go thru the Panama Canal in January 2010 and circumnavigate with the World ARC (maybe). We'd like to wish everyone Merry Christmas. ... read more

My wife and I traveled to Puerto Rico for five days in January of 2006. Our visit was during the "Three Kings Holiday", so the epic proportions of traffic that San Juan is famous for was unapparent. We rented a car from an off-terminal rental agency in a slightly unsafe area of San Juan. My backpack had been unintentionally soaked in fish juice during our flight, which I stored in the trunk of the rental car for the entire trip, that way we could share the pleasantry of Omega-3 odors with every person who rented or owned our car for the next decade or two. A good thing to note about rental vehicles in Puerto Rico is that they have extremely durable skid plates, which came into good use around every corner and over every bump. ... read more

Hello. Well this is the first time I've been able to sit down with my lap top since we started working Tuesday! THings are in full swing here. We loaded in, rigged and have already had two shows. Our third show is in a few hours. Tuesday and Wednesday were very long days. We started Tues at 2:30 unloaded the 10 semi trucks and it took a good four hours to get everything in the venue. Part of my job, as I was getting trained on, is to direct the local help where to put all the crates coming off the truck. It was interesting! The venue wouldn't let us start rigging until 5:00. So we had to wait, which isn't fun. But we started and it was fast and furious. We left the venue Tues ... read more
