Simon went on an Introductory Diving course today and me Birger and Hannah went to the Batcave! This was a real adventure - I felt like Indiana Jones trekking throught the jungle. We had to take a boat ride and trek for about 30 minutes through the jungle to get to the cave. It's on Bastimientos Island and Oscar, the guide, is great! We saw a mother Sloth with a little baby sloth hanging in a tree. On the way out we saw a Cayman (alligator!) The cave is full of bats (hence the name) but they didn't get too close to us - they fly past your face and you can feel the breeze from their wings. The cave has a river running through it and we had to climb over large boulders so I ... read more

Took one of the day trips with Transparente Tours to Dolphin Bay, Crawl Cay, RedFrog Beach and Hospital Point. First stop is Dolphin Bay where you are almost guaranteed to see Dolphins. They were in playful mood so we saw loads of them. They love to surf the waves behind the boats and two of them obliged us with a spectacular jump out of the water. On to Crawl Cay for snorkeling. We had to get over the side of the boat and there was a strong current so it was hard work to stay near enough to the boat. But the water wasn't too deep and we saw some lovely Coral and colourful fish. Then we had lunch in a restaurant built over the water. There were hammocks on the deck to relax in before ... read more

Well, IM BACK! Weeee!! Such a nice relaxing weekend. I flew out early in the morning from Panama on Friday. Three others from the hostel I was staying at were going for the weekend as well, but it was a surprize for one of the girls birthday from her boyfriend. So even as we flew in the plane she still had no idea where in the heck we were going, but what a nice surprize! I ended up staying at a hotel called Hotel San Blas on an inhibited island. Everyday we would all get up and have tea and coffie for breakfast, maybe some eggs, and then get in the boat and take a 40 min ride to some little uninhibited islands. So dang beautiful. The first day we went to an island called Dog ... read more

Aye ye ye... I contracted the Cenrtal America Virus of death or somethin... No. But really, I got pretty sick not yesterday, but the day before. I hiked this gigantic mountain with Vince and Maja, and I was getting all delerious and sick and I was sweating so dang much (it wasnt hot, I was so confused). Later, we get back, and I get serious cold sweats but Im boiling... Eventually 6 hours later I stumble to the kitchen of our guesthouse and ask them to call me a cab to the clinic. They do the whole ¨" We really dont speak the same language so just sit there a die for a bit while we poke at you" bit. They gave me drugs, sent me back, I passed out. I woke up the next morning ... read more

First things first. 1- Mumsy: Yesterday and the day before in David we stayed at a hostel called The Purple House Hostel. The building painted purple, everything inside purple, the dishes the shower curtain, all the sheets, all the decorations! You would have fallen in love! It just made me smile because I know you could have fit right in with all the many shades. Back to our regularly schedualed program... The three amigos set out today, getting a pissy start. Last night we all agreed on the 8:30 AM bus instead of the 7:30 because we would have to get up at 6. But, this morning Maja wakes us up at 6 (Vince and I pop up thinking its time) and then I check out the clock. 6 AM. So we both crawl back into ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Panama » Chiriquí » David March 2nd 2005

Yee Haw! Yesterday after deciding that we couldnt swim to the neartest island from Isla Colon because of the heavy and fast boat traffic, we packed our shit and took a 4 hour bus to David. It was THE best bus ride I've been on so far... Absolutly beautiful mountain ride, got a little chilly as we got the the highest part of the mountain, trees trees trees everywhere. It was also the most expensive ride I've had so far as well. Eight bucks! Ack, I've gotten so used to about 3 or 4 dollar bus rides, so eight was a kick in the ol pants! Today turned out to be laundry day, I have only what is on my sticky hot body that isnt dirty. But, it'll be nice to slide into some clean shorts! ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Panama » Bocas Del Toro February 26th 2005

Greetings everyone! Not yesterday, but the day before I traveled with Vince and Maja to Panama! We headed out from Rockin J's (our hostels name) at 10:30 or so only to miss the bus to Sixaola by 10 minutes. So we smoozed at the beach for a few hours and jumped on the bus to the border. It was a easy cross, not too much time, only 5 bucks for Americans (I think we are the only Nationality that has to pay to cross into Panama... probally left over Canal business...). We got talked into taking a collective taxi to the next town to catch the last boat to Bocas Del Toro, because in reality we could have takken the bus... We sat at the dock for over an hour! Either way we made it to ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Panama » Chiriquí » Cerro Punta January 28th 2005

My word I am so exhausted right now I can scarcely stay sitting up! Yesterday morning Maayan and I took the bus to David and then to Cerro Punta. We quickly realized that we had been missing out on the more beautiful side of the volcano by staying the whole week in Boquete, because Cerro Punta is truly beautiful. It is really hilly and full of neatly manicured little farms and Swiss-style houses, with tons and tons of flowers and streams and waterfalls all over. I wasn't feeling all that great so Maayan took off in search of info once we arrived and found out that there was accommodation available inside the Parque Internacional La Amistad and arranged a taxi to get us there. We hiked the waterfall trail in about two hours and settled into ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Panama » Chiriquí » Boquete January 26th 2005

So Boquete is one of those towns that everyone intends on staying in for 2 or 3 days and ends up being in forever. On Sunday I headed back to Boquete to potentially meet up with Maayan and Shachar again although I didn't actually know if they would be there or not. However, David isn't really a great town to stay in, so it would have been worth it anyway to go to Boquete since it is cheap and there are nice places to stay. Little did I know it would be a huge reunion. I walked in the door at Doña Cata around 9:30 and who was walking out but Maayan; he and Shachar were staying there too and were out "talking to two crazy American guys", who happened to be Chad and Tyler, who ... read more

Last night on San Blas

If there is a more beautiful place on earth than the island I holed up on for 5 days, I would be amazed to find it. Every morning I awoke to the sounds of the waves on the shore and the wind in the coconut palms; as I stepped out of the cabaña, my eyes feasted on the thousand shades of turquoise, green, and blue and at night the whole island was blanketed in the brightest moonlight I have ever seen. Never have I seen so many stars in the sky! It was absolutely incredible. After going out to a wonderful little Cuban bar called Bolero on Saturday night, I left with Ita at 4 am to the airport to try to get a ticket to San Blas on standby. The flight left at 6 am ... read more
