Hello, I have been a bad blogger, frankly it has been too long since I last posted, so here comes a huge juicy entry for those of you still taking an interest! Ok, so Jahn and Theresa left. Very sad. But then I met Casey, a medical student from wait for it.. Las Vegas baby(!), and a new Norwegian hot-pocket by the name of Elle-Mari. He has a rather wicked sense of humor which really helped to lift the mood on occasion back at the orphanage. Playing a sort of tongue in cheek Mr. America figure, an athletic loud mouthed genius of slap stick, Casey was a regular Jim Carey. She, on the other hand, has this chip on her shoulder about men, a real one woman worrier. Now couple this with the most adorable ... read more

Hola amigos y amigas! Personligt blev ... read more

Martes early morning and Raul put me on a bus for my trip to Coban. Couldn´t take a shower or go to bathroom cause the water had not been turned on yet. I need to catch an 8:30 express bus in order to get to Coban in one day. Got to bus terminal earlier than expected because the chicken bus team of driver and assistant were amazing as we zoomed around the mountains and small villages. The assistant literally hung way outside of the door to spot for incoming traffic and obstructions in town. All stops for passengers to get on and off were rolling stops and the kids swung back into the bus from throwing baggage off the roof, after the bus was already going a good 20kmph. Went to get my ticket so I ... read more

Hey, So i havent written anything on the blog since i was packing back in montreal, so i figured it was time. So far my favorite place has been semuc champey. it was incredible. We hung out iwth 6 israelis the whole time and we just had a blast swimming and tubing and caving. We were planning on skipping seing some caves cause we were like, aww its just caves, seen em. holly cow was i wrong.. going into these caves turned out to be one of the best decision we could have made, turns out i think it is on the top 10 coolest things ive ever done. I won{t be able to describe it so well online but basically picture the 12 of us (israelis, us and 2 others from the hostel) all holding ... read more

So the journey to get to Semuc Champey will forever be burned into my memory. Step 1- take a shitty chicken bus that should hold 12 people but packs 22 on a windy highway for a few hours, step 2, on the turn off for Lanquin (a town right by semuc champey) it says the town is only 11km away yet it takes over an hour to get there because the van is driving on nothing that remotely resembles a road. At one point we had to stop because there was a semi on the road clearing large rocks from the road so it was driveable. Step 3- arrived in Lanquin and allow a local man to convince you to go to this beautiful hotel by semuc champey. Step 4- he takes you to his mode ... read more

Today was a long travel day that took us 6 hours south of Flores to an industrial town called Coban. I have to say this is and probably will be my least favorite city in Guatemala. Just too much garbage, too much dust and alot of poor people. We arrived in Coban at 8pm at night, not a good time to arrive into a city. You feel disoriented from the nauseating (spelt right?) bus rides, the cramped seating and when you arrive to a town there is always someone waiting for an opportunity to screw you over. So if you dont have your brain turned on you can end up in a shitty situation. Conveniently our driver dropped us off right by the hotel we wanted to go to. This hotel 'casa d'acuna' was amazing. It is Monday of the second week of spanish and day #10 in Guatemala. Can´t believe it is already the second week of the trip- in some ways it feels like I just got here and in some ways, seems like I have been gone for so long. I decided to stay in Antigua for one more week with my school and the homestay family. Even though Antigua is quite touristy and I am able to speak a lot of English with the many other travelers here... it is also easy, safe, and a good jumping point for weekend adventures. This past weekend went on a group trip to Lanquin and Semuc Champey which is in the middle of Guatemala- near Coban. Booked the trip with a fellow student at the Ixchel Spanish School on Thursday ... read more

ENGLISH Oh my god! If Carlsberg did marvels of nature they'd do Semuc Champey! Just see the pictures (all two of them). We spent the afternoon of NYE diving from one pool to another in the sunshine. Climbing up and doing it again. Hope you are all well and that 2007 brings all the health, wealth, strength and happiness you could wish for. Love to all!! ... read more
