Places Visited - Santa Ana. After our relaxing time in Rio Dulce we had another border crossing to cope with to El Salvador. On paper this looked a lot of hassle and mither! We would have to get a total of 4 buses to get to where we wanted to go, Santa Ana a large city in the North of El Salvador. Luckily as we were going for the bus we bumped into the guy who recommended the Tortuga and he told us that there is a direct first class bus. We haggled the price and it worked out double of what we were going to pay for the 4 buses but was worth paying just to avoid the hassle! When I said double the price it still only worked out to be about 7 pound ... read more

Well its about that time to say good bye to El Salvador and my moms family. Its been very mellow the last few weeks here and it kind of reminded me of being at the cabin in Oregon. I spent alot of time getting to know my mom before she had kids from Marta´s stories and collected more pictures. Even though we hardly went out because I would have to pay we spent alot of time hanging out listening to records, drinking and staying up late just talking. So I think I´m now ready to start my trip. So far I´ve spent alot of time with family and getting to know my parents. I´m kinda glad to be moving forward and away from family gossip. So the pictures are of my last trip out to the ... read more

Fact: so more than 50% of the countries income comes from the U.S. Half of the population here has relatives in the U.S. that send money down here. In yesterdays paper the government is trying to implement a tax on that cash being sent from abroad to benefit the country. According to the government all the money sent is being consumed by the people and not put to use for the country. So the road will not every be repaired the school will lack equipment and the country will always be poor and more malls will be build for their consumption. A few emails ago my cousin asked me if I was coming to El Salvador to work or to mooch. Ofcourse when I set out to come here I figured I´d stay with family because ... read more

Just so you know my mom never came like she promised not because she didnt want to but it was costing her a fortune to come and see me. So she gave us the green light to drink the fucken tequilla I´d been drooling over for days. So I finally made out to see my uncle in sonsonate. Ofcourse I had to take Marta (the elderly lady) and the Yanet (the goofy teenager) with me. After a 2 hour bus ride we were in what I like to call in the heart of El Salvador. Dirt roads, naked children, women walking around with baskets of food and laundry on their heads and houses that look like the wind will blow them away. So we had decided since I would hardly get to see my uncle we ... read more

Fact: El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America there is a total of 11 volcanoes and the states here are called departments. I was reading the newspaper a few days ago and the stats claim that if your male between the ages of 19-35 regardless of where your from your at a 70% chance of being killed by the gangs here in the major cities of El Salvador. When I first arrived my aunts husband was waiting for me at the airport and took me straight to my moms cousins place thats right in the capital city. We stay here everytime we come because my only uncle lives in the state of Sonsonate which is 2 hours away on bus. I didnt leave the first few days for fear that I would shit myself ... read more

Vele, vele, vele uren later kom ... read more

So my last entry happened last tuesday and I apologize if I left a cliff hanger in your emails without my stories. I got some emails from people who were worried that I had joined a circus or gone off to work in Amsterdam. Lets thank Davicin for the long list of people I just added to my travel blog. Thanks to you I´m that much closer to a hundred people who read my lame as fucken stories. So last tuesday I was worried that I wasnt gonna be able to leave mexico cuz my dumb ass left my ticket back in L.A. So after I finished my stories I called fedex and was told I had to make it to Guadalajara before 6pm or I wouldnt have my plane ticket for the next day. This ... read more

Ok, my stop in El Salvador was in fact only 49 minutes while waiting for my connecting flight to San Francisco. However i did play a song on ye olde guitar to a rather bemused collection of American business travellers and some El Salvadorian airport workers. Hence i feel i'm allowed to blog the place. Also i managed to nearly get arrested in the airport despite my breif stay for.. carrying toothpaste. Yep, apparently although taking umpteen TACA airline flights before, because this one was bound for the states, all of a sudden we were not permitted to "..gather in groups of more than 3 people in any area..." ooo! Also my innocent Colgate toothpaste was suddenly deemed a security risk. However after negociations as to the actual risk toothpaste poses, and demonstrating that it was ... read more
