Three years ago my wife, my son and I traveled to the Island of curacao, it was very fascinating. We visited my wife's aunt who lives there. We met many sites in La Isala; We went to kenepa beach, this is one of the most popular beaches on the island. Its waters are incredibly crystalline. We could see the fish in the water. The waters of these beaches are calm and clean as a crystal. We also visited the cave of the herd. I was really pleasantly surprised , this is an enormous and beautiful limestone cave system, They are very well lit. We visited the suspension bridge every night. This is a bridge over some boats and is removed when passing the Giant boats. Curasao is a very beautiful island its inhabitants are very cordial. ... read more

Carnival Sunshine arrived off Curaçao after 11:00 a.m. on the third day of the cruise. Curaçao, along with Aruba and Bonaire (the ABC islands), has been a Dutch possession since the 17th century. Despite their proximity, we found the ABC islands have little interaction with one another. There is no ferry service, for example, between them. The ship sailed at a leisurely pace along the 30 mile long island, docking at Willemstad at the scheduled time of 1:00 p.m. Rain threatened, but held off. I enjoyed seeing the changing landscape. Christoffelberg in the northern part of the island is the highest point on Curaçao at 1,220 feet (372 m). The coastline is dotted with small communities and resort developments leading down to Willemstad. There are also signs of industry. Like Aruba, Curaçao has oil refineries. The ... read more

Published in Curaçao Barbados 12th January It was never going to be easy to decide what to do here in Bridgetown, Barbados. We arrived earlier than planned because of a medical emergency which gave some crew and passengers time to go into town in the late evening. I suspect though it was really wifi they were after!!!With its beautiful beaches, blue sea and welcoming people this sun drenched island has a colonial feel. Its independence in 1966 from being a British colony has a blend of British and West Indian cultures which weaves a holiday makers dream, tropical with a sea breeze, the temperature hardly varies from 24-30 C with humidity pleasantly low. Barbados is known throughout the Caribbean as 'Little England', the Parliament Square, Georgian houses, cricket ground and signposts to Hastings and Worthing all ... read more

PROFESSIONAL DIVE BUDDIES NAS Dive Shop I called the dive shop that once rented space at the Ritz, where I was staying. I explained that I was an underwater photographer and I would appreciate diving with other photographers, or with a personal Divemaster so I wouldn’t be holding up other divers while I took my photos, waiting for just the right composition. I like long slow dives so I can look in all the crevices and search out elusive sea creatures. I got just what I asked for. The next three days were like heaven. The divemasters, professional divers familiar with the local dive sites, gave assistance when asked, but otherwise were like my good diving buddies at home. We were in no hurry, we just took our time, looked at everything and came up when ... read more

After visiting 38 countries and flying aboard 20 different airlines, I’ve already been back in Curaçao for a bit more than a year now. I arrived exactly on my birthday in December 2015. Time flies! It was really nice to see family, friends and acquaintances again after 2.5 years. Within my first week on the island I was interviewed live on TV and at a radio-station, and later on also by a newspaper. Sometimes I’ve been stopped by random people on the street asking “are you the guy who travels around?” Most of them have been following me through the newspaper Amigoe, for whom I’ve been writing reports of my adventures since June 2013. I got only compliments for what I did and they all encourage me to keep traveling. People liked the Curaçao t-shirts I ... read more

CURACAO – NEW YEAR’S EVE No Room at the Inn Finding a hotel in Curacao proved difficult. I hadn’t wanted to travel on New Year’s Eve but that was the flight that was available. Time after time the hotels where I tried to book a room responded with the message, “no vacancies” for the dates I requested. Finally I left a request for a reservation and the hotel responded saying I would receive an email within twenty four hours. I crossed my fingers and boarded my plane. Disembarking in Curacao I immediately went to email. My reservation had been declined. It was already 5:30 p.m. and I searched and searched hotels, finally turning to Airbnb. There it was. A room. With taxi service from the airport. I talked to the proprietor and he warned me that ... read more

We arrived in Willemstad in the morning. As we rode up to the Lido in the central side elevator we spotted the many colorful turn-of-the-last-century waterfront houses in a quaint remembrance of a time now past. I spotted one smallish building proclaiming to be the “CASINO”. I turned to Sharon and said, we may have a change of itinerary for today. I mean the way my mom and Sharon are glued to their Fishing Bob and Tango Inspired slot machines… I’m just saying. Sharon decided on waffles today and offered to get my mother’s crepes, with apples on the side and I returned with the oatmeal and milk. As I returned and was going to get my breakfast, she was looking at her crepes that Sharon had already brought and said, that she needed syrup. I ... read more

Day 135 Monday 27 July At sea southerly down the East coast of USA 29c cloudy some rain Breakfast then Zumba Gold and Zumba then Gail walked the deck and I put our washing together to go to the laundry. I went to a lecture on water which was quite interesting. Gail went to choir practice. When we had both finished we went to see "Maid in Manhattan" starring Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes which neither of us had seen right through before. Later we played Crib with Geoff and Margaret and sort of watched the Rugby League where the Cowboys thrashed Parramatta. After dinner we went to watch Diane Cousins a Welsh singer/comedienne we had seen twice on the way over. Same show entertaining but predictable. Curaçao We flew 20 minutes from Aruba to Curaçao, with a 23 hour layover before flying on two hours further to Medellin. We took this weird flight because it was a free way to have a day on Curaçao, and we are really glad we did. We stayed in Hotel Scharloo (pronounced Shar-low), a small place in the harbor district of Willemstadt. Curaçao is very different from Aruba. First, the island is a lot bigger, and has a fine natural harbor. It was the capital of the Dutch Antilles, and the Dutch influence is a lot stronger here. The harbor is surrounded by brightly painted buildings with the traditional stepped roofline, all very neatly kept. All the bridges over harbor water are drawbridges, and the little streets near the hotel are packed with interesting things to ... read more
