Hoge golven! ... read more

I am in the rain forest of Costa Rica. Humid is something I thought I knew about, but now I know the TRUE meaning!!! :) This is a tropical region and the humidity is like a wet blanket that covers you all the time. I am at a wonderful campus called Earth University, which is an inspired place, that teaches how to reuse the earth in order to supply our needs. I will write much more on the schools take on the earth´s environment later. I must let someone else access the internet now. I go into the rain forest tomorrow and will live with some indigenous tribes to learn about their way of life. I am sure I will have much to report on this journey. I have taken many pictures, so I hope to ... read more

I am off to Costa Rica today and starting another adventure. I have been so changed by my journey to Africa. It’s very hard to put that down for a while and open myself back up to a completely different reality, so soon. I will start at Earth University and then continue on into the rural countryside to see how most people in the rural areas live. (I can't wait to contrast their way of life with the rural cultures in Africa.) I am unsure of internet connections, so have patience. I will try to update as much as possible and add a picture or two. :) On a completely different note... I just want to say, I still get messages from around the world about the Africa trip. Thisl seems unreal to me, how so ... read more

I got nothing really to report today. I´ve kinda hit the wall spanish wise. I think i´ve been talking a lil to much english, that or my brain is just telling me that its been overwhelmed lately and its taking a vacation. Hey Gid!!! No response to the fantastic 4??? thats uncanny, no?? Reccomendation: If you ever travel to a foreign country do not take them food that needs to be cooked or prepared. Such as brownie mix, like i did? I should have made them myself because they ruined them. They were the most god awful brownies i´d ever eaten. i don´t know how you can screw up brownies, but they did. On the bright side, I made pancakes for them this morning, (hansman´s), and they were extremely delicious with pure ny state maple syrup ... read more

10 days till my birthday. I saw the fantastic four last night with 5 other students, in english, with spanish subtitles. I was very perplexed by what happened throughout much of the movie. I was hoping those of you that are highly trained in the art of son son or cyclops could explain to me what the hell happened. So, the premesis of this movie is a some cosmic storm that has the ability to alter ones DNA?? First off, if your basising an entire movie off of this, that should be a clue that a whole lot of other stuff is not going to make sense. So Victor Von Doom is the bad guy, how could you not be the bad guy with a name like von doom. Anyway, who the hell is he. Is ... read more

I guess you could say I m getting a little homesick. It´s not that I don´t love it here. This the most amazing experience of my life. Well maybe not the most amazing, but the other one involved a bathtub full of mayo and three naked chicks, but that ones not G rated. But, I´m getting a little tired of the whole "Spanish" thing. Its hard and very discouraging to express yourself at times when you don´t know the words you want to use. And trying to conjugate irregular verbs in the conditional tense on the fly in your head gets a little old after the 329357 time. I miss not being able to walk around barefoot whenever I want because you have to wear shoes at all times here in Costa Rica. They frown upon ... read more

Exploring Costa Rica December 29, 2004 - January 3, 2005 Day 1 We relaxed in the President’s Club at IAH before our 3-hour first class flight on Continental to San Jose, Costa Rica, arriving mid-afternoon. San Jose is considered the most cosmopolitan city in Central America and indeed is one of the most beautifully situated capitals in all of the Americas, nestled in the fertile “Valle Central” (Central Valley) and surrounded on all sides by lush green mountains. It basks in a perfect climate of spring-like temperatures year-round. Our first stop was at the Santo Tomas, our lovely boutique hotel, or bed-and-breakfast inn, located in San Jose’s historical district. It is a beautifully restored 1910 coffee baron’s mansion with 20 rooms embellished with King Louie XV furniture, beautiful hardwoods, handmade and highly polished tile floors, plus ... read more

Unfortunately, my farneti jokes are coming to an end because this marco´s kid is a freaking yahoo and a half and a way easier target. Holy Christmas I can go on about him. Anyway, I mentioned before how he insists on being called Marcos, so he gets the total latino experience. The kid is from Long Island and is short the entire suit of spades in a deck of cards. Well he keeps asking me, ¨luke, Luke you just gotta show me how the ATM works, I so don´t have any colones" (except when he says it, imagine a cross between arnold swartzennagger and "Beans" from even stevens and you get the same effect), well anyway so i´m like mark ( i always call him Mark, since I know it will ruin his "Costa Rican" ... read more

Well, after an epic journey on a budget bus that got stuck at the border because the officials had knocked off for the day and didnt feel like chekcing our luggage, we are now located in central San Jose, staying in a rundown shack of a hotel for about 7 dollars a night. The room looks like a cardboard box and the walls dont go all the way up to the ceiling, but it has a bed, and after a night spent wrestling with armrests and velcro curtains sleeping on the bus, anything is good! We got done for 20 dollars at the border, as apparently we had been irresponsible and not gotten ourselves a tourist card on arrival at the airport (I tried to persuade the customs officer that that is his colleagues job to ... read more
